I know this type of behavior isn't just in my town but it does seem there are a hell of a lot to these addicts here.
It is such a waste of life! What goes wrong in these peoples lives to where they need to end up as wasters ?

Some people make excuses for them saying "well they had a bad childhood" or "addiction is a medical condition and they can't help it"...both of these things are bull# and i hate the fact that people try and defend the bad choices these scum bags make.

What do you all think?

I dont think u have the right to assume what is a wasted life or not. What follows death will decide.

I can guarantee that you have at least 1 addict in your family, everybody does. Kinda like when Chris Rock said that everybody has an aunt Tom in their family.
Find that person in your family and explain your philosophy to them, get back to us and let us know how it went.

He won't. That would mean having to face facts, something the OP has made abundantly clear he does not want to do.

One mand went into a bar next to a philosopher, he said "life is hard"...
The philosopher turned to look at him and said "compared to what?"...

If we can strengthen our mind , we can solve many a so called problems or tough situations and overcome stress.

Addicts by there very nature are weak minded...its sad

But what you are failing to understand is that the addiction becomes more than something mental, it becomes physical as well.

As I stated earlier, do a lot of research, spend time in a clinic to learn things about these people and if you don't... Heaven forbid you have children, they will be as narrow minded as yourself and will do a great disservice to others as you probably do in life yourself.

So that's reason to hate them then is it? Let's treat these poor people like the scum of the Earth, yeah that'll help them..

Oh yeah, you're ignoring me like a child, I forgot. Carry on ignoring me.....

Bit of a weak statement just because i don't agree with your blinkered PC view of junkies!...equally i hope you don't have the police knocking on your door to tell you a loved one has been hit by a car driven by a crackhead alcoholic....i truly mean that!

You should talk to victims of crime that have had things stolen, family members raped/killed by junkies ...and tell them they need to show these junkies kindness.....

Examples of users needing £15,000 to £30,000 a year to fund drug habits have often been given. To make such amounts of money from stolen goods police often suggest multiplying by three – on the basis that stolen goods will fetch about one third of their normal value. There are estimates of between 130,000 and 200,000 problematic drug users in the UK. That is a lot of theft, burglary, fraud or shoplifting if all are stealing to pay for things. This has led some people to suggest that well over half of all acquisitive crime is drug-related and that the market value of goods stolen involved could be between £2-2.5 billion each year.

Im not perfect far from it but im not weak minded either we are defined by our choices...they make us who we are....

E

Nope too simple. You are affected by you social environment, your looks, your handicaps, your access to money, and opportunity, your place on the bellshaped curve, teachers, opportunities or perception of opportunities, your accent, the melanin in you skin, Your choices and decisions are indeed important but they are influenced by oh so much.

My degree was in Psych - part of the undergraduate work was to spend time at the state hospital, back when we had "insane asylums" -- I never pursued Psychology but this did teach me how oh so very hard it is to navigate "life".

Its choices that make our future ....not what we have been through or had done to us!

E

Your choices are governed by your past experiences, choices are not made in a vacuum, If I dropped you into a surgical suite and in the middle of a procedure asked your advice on what to cut -- this little doohickey or that thingy? What would your choice be. All of a sudden you hear a stall warning in a cockpit and the plane falls off to the right - what is the next choice you make? For some people life choices are as difficult or more than these examples.

Yep, there it is. When you asked before for us to rehash what we'd already said and convince you, and we replied you wouldn't listen anyway, this is EXACTLY what we meant.

Anyone who doesn't immediately and wholeheartedly agree with your point of view is "blinkered with a PC view". You also described us as being "weak minded" yet expect us to treat this thread seriously and listen to your opinion?

Delusional. Completely and utterly delusional.

Oh yeah, you're still childishly ignoring me, I keep forgetting.

I don't know about you, but I'm going to leave him alone. He's one of those who can live with an addict for 5 years and still not get them.

Alcohol and drugs do not discriminate between the rich, the poor, the strong, the meek, the smart and the not so, etc. addiction is a great equalizer of man. People of all walks find themselves down and out. Some by choice, yes, but most just happen to make a few bad decisions along the way and life snowballed. If you could walk a mile in their shoes you would see this. The majority of these people that you call "scum" don't want to be where they're at, life feels hopeless to them, they know nothing else and there's not many places, if any, for them to turn to and get help. This may be hard for you to phantom but it's truth. Many addicts are also some of the strongest people I've ever met, they went to great lengths to fuel their addiction and even greater lengths in recovery. It's not an easy task for anyone.

I've been involved in recovery off and on for thirty yrs and there's not much I haven't seen or heard. I worked with an adolescent outpatient yrs ago that is doing great for himself now. This was a kid (male) that was drugged, beaten and raped by his dad and his dad's friends until he was 14, he was a hardcore heroin junkie and on the streets at the age 16. Luckily, someone took the time to help him and get him into recovery, most street addicts are not that fortunate. There's a lot of people on the streets with similar stories and any one of them could have just as easily been YOU. It's a shame that so many are nothing more than victims of circumstance. They're not all scum dude and it doesn't help their cause much when people like you judge them as such. One of the biggest things that opened my eyes was volunteer work at the mission at 5th st. in downtown LA. Take some time and go help at a shelter it may help you to see another side to their situation. I dare you.

All you people giving excuses to addicts as if its not their fault because of the government or because they had a bad childhood etc bla bla bla, are wrong and naive!!!!!!!
I grew up in the worst neighborhood of lisbon. Casal Ventoso!
it was a supermarket of drugs. I grew up with the worst that makes any of you north american and uk dudes look like pussys that I would eat for breakfast. Any ways Im not showing off its nothing to be proud of just pointing out my life experience. The OP is right addicts are weak and its nobody's fault but theirs. I had all the opportunities to become one. I left Portugal because sooner or later I would be killed or in jail. I am the master of my life I chose life I chose freedom I chose positive energy. No excuses for my past weakness it was nobody's fault but mine. And now I am doing great simple happy life. No one said life was easy stop making excuses and make the change. No one will help you but yourself and if you get addicted on coke or heroin its nobody's fault but yours.
Man! so many pussy's being brought up in today's society !
