I read only the first page of this thread and I came to this conclusion; This thread should get 404'ed like the other two big threads did today. The other threads touched some sensitive nerves with certain people as does this thread.

Addiction is a disease.

Just saying.

Addiction is a disease????....is it a mind control disease that forces you to (for the first time) find or acquire crack or alcohol and start on the journey to being the scumbag human being ?

Funny, please explain why AA and NA and all rehab centres teach addiction as being a disease?

You are so full of #.

A disease is something that progressively gets worse. Drug addicts don't stay at for example "level 2" of addiction, they progressively get worse, hence drug addiction is a disease.

It starts with a few occasional uses than... BOOM. Now, it doesn't happen with everybody.
Op, I feel that you are young. Relax, try to look at things from a different perspective, open your mind a little bit. I know it can be hard at times not to be judgemental and sometimes I too am judgmental but there is only ONE whom is worthy of judging.

Im not perfect far from it but im not weak minded either we are defined by our choices...they make us who we are....

Nope too simple. You are affected by you social environment, your looks, your handicaps, your access to money, and opportunity, your place on the bellshaped curve, teachers, opportunities or perception of opportunities, your accent, the melanin in you skin, Your choices and decisions are indeed important but they are influenced by oh so much.

My degree was in Psych - part of the undergraduate work was to spend time at the state hospital, back when we had "insane asylums" -- I never pursued Psychology but this did teach me how oh so very hard it is to navigate "life".

Its choices that make our future ....not what we have been through or had done to us!

You're so arrogant you think you know more than the entire worlds medical community about addiction?

Jesus mate, reach for the sky why don't you.

The OP is a lost cause

Narrow minded... self absorbed, etc.

OP, look up the definition of a disease. I am not an addict myself but i've been forced into out-patient rehab programs 3 times in my life! I had to sit through all that BS for pretty much no reason. I learned alot. Drug addiction progressively gets worse. Diseases progressively get worse. Connect 1 and 1 together.

Self inflicted, yes. But that does not mean it's a disease. You seriously need to do a lot of research on how drugs effect the human mind and brain... if you can comprehend all the data that you'll come across.
....Drugs, with some people they grab ahold of them and don't ever let go. Just sayin.

You can disagree all you like but it's you versus the expert analysis of the entire worlds medical community.

I know who I'm listening to (I'll give you a hint...it's not you).

One mand went into a bar next to a philosopher, he said "life is hard"...
The philosopher turned to look at him and said "compared to what?"...

its starts of as an addiction, but it keeps going worse... I know a guy who died from stopping drinking, my stepdad is an alchohlic and gets insanely sick when he goes gold turkey.
It is an disease, atleast it shapes to.
