Thank you for posting this as it just makes me want to continue my path on eating better. I have noticed that when I eat veggies and fruits as well as complex carbs, I feel more awake and energized. Motivates me to continue living a healthier lifestyle with my diet and exercise.

I have gradually stopped eating red meat and will probably continue to do so as time goes by. My 6 yr old just announced that he refuses to eat a dead cow, so I'm sure red meat will probably cease to exist in our diets soon

Also, why do you not have your own garden?

I don't have my own garden because I have never lived in a place where it would have been allowed. Dorm, apartment, or parents' house. Maybe that will change in the future. I'm relatively young.

When I am being disciplined I only eat cooked grains (oats, popcorn, quinoa) with healthy oils (coconut, olive, hemp); raw grassfed-source dairy, eggs and honey from local farm, coffee or cacao and powdered greens...all organic. I have eaten like this for up to 3 months at a time, but it never produced relief from my chronic health problems. And as I refuse to see a doctor (don't ask) I looked at a raw vegan diet as the last remaining hope for healing. And am slightly bitter that it seems to be unattainable for me...if you can't tell

I am a 24 yr old female.

I have been trying to go vegetarian for years. It would always only last about a week or two and then I'd have a piece of Chicken at a barbeque or a burger at a retaurant. I also couldn't stand people laughing at me for not eating meat, or trying not to eat meat. When I did, I just felt so bad afterward. I didn't like that. I couldn't understand why I did it, if I didn't really want to.

After finding out I had a medical condition, I decided to cut out all meat and dairy, as the growth hormones just agrevate my condition. It's been 6 weeks since my OP today, for the first 3 I still had some dairy here and there, and two portions of meat.

For 3 weeks now, I have been a full on vegan. I cannot stress enough how much better I feel. I feel AWAKE. I feel more present. I can actually wake up in the morning when my alarm screams. I actually have to cook my food every night. No take aways.

It feels so good to know what I am eating, and that my energy goes into it when I make it. It feels great to know that I am not contributing to some caged up cow being milked for all she's worth, and have her calves stripped away from her.

I will never go back. I know now that the short lived taste of cheese or pizza will quickly turn into guilt which in turn will make me feel like a weak willed person. It's just not worth it.
I feel too good now.

I wonder how I will feel after a couple of months...

good for you, i also get laughed at for avoiding meat, and i totally know what you mean about feeling guilty.even for eating a simple cookie -_-

I think we think alike. Salt, fresh ground black or multi-colour pepper, oregano, rosemary, thyme, bay leaves, koriander, cayenne pepper, bengali/long peppers, kumin, mint, tumeric...

Food without seasonings is like a rose without a smell. (They do smell roses that don't smell here, awful!) As for carnivore gene, they don't exist, it's all between the ears.

NO Lucky for you. Toxic shock syndrom is caused by toxins. Not by eleminating toxins. Go for it.
I eat low carb, high protein. Lots of veggies, meat and fruit. No starches, not potatos or rice or pasta or bread. I do eat whole wheat pasta and brown rice once or twice a week to keep seratonin levels up because low carb for too long can cause low seratonin levels and thats why we crave carbs when we are feeling down.

I would highly recommend that you read up on Suzanne Somers eating plan. It is not vegan but is low carb. Very tasty real food eaten in certain combinations so that you burn fat and loose weight while never and I mean never having to count calories or fat grams or portions. You eat protein and fat with veggies, you eat carbs with veggies but no fat. You eat fruit but only on an empty stomach. There is no portion control, you eat until you are comfortably full. She has about five recipe books out and they all outline the eating plan in the begining of the book. Honestly, its the best "diet" I've ever been on. I lost 87 lbs originally and that was in 2001. I have maintained my weight for 11 years.

Actually I think its determined by the teeth. We have canine teeth to tear meat. We have grinding teeth to grind plant material. I guess we should be eating meat and plant material. Oh wait, thats what I eat. I am 55 and no one thinks I am over 45. Really. When I tell people how old I am they are amazed.

It's just that I spend tons of time thinking about and studying how to eat healthy so I was rather taken aback to have a result of my study and thought characterized as "crap"...but well, this is the real world and I am too sensitive...I might very well come to look on it as crap myself in the future...

If something works for you it really doesn't matter what others think, because if it truly works then it's not crap.

I would like to thank everyone thus far for the interesting comments and wisdom, from your personal life experiences.

Please keep the comments coming don't be afraid to open up a bit, you'll be surprised how many people you connect with. ATS is a sight that I consider to be a pool of wisdom, talent, and knowledge far beyond what I could ever dream up myself, the people here are talented to no end.

ATS has thinkers, dreamers, artists, pioneers, inventors, astronomers, critics, scientists, engineers, and many other walks of life, most of which I consider to be individuals that think outside the societal norms. I personally value everyone's opinion, even though I may not agree I am able to learn and understand from their perspective.

So post your thoughts and see how it ripples across the pond of ATS thinkers and doers.

Peace out,

RT

I personally find it extremely difficult to not eat ice cream during a late evening desire. Why it is a sugar fascination during that time I don't know.

I am not an expert, but that would indicate your blood sugar is very low and the fastest way for many people to get their levels back up is to consume the most tasty sugars available.

Been there done that, guilty as charged.

But on the flip side it is terrible for your insulin levels at night, because it sends them soaring sky high.

Coast to Coast spoke with Dr Jerry Tennant about the body and the subtle voltage ranges it uses and how good food has a similar voltage range, it connects with raw-food eating i suppose.

The C2C radio show is here, it's been split into eleven parts to be put on utoob and i can't remember how far in the Doctor started talking, but it's worth jumping through the recordings because it's very interesting.

Even if you eat 100% organic fresh vegetables you are still eating genetically modified abominations grown in the presence of commercial machinery, pollution, and pestilence. Even if you eat 100% non-hormone/anti-bacterial injected, farm raised, grass/naturally feed, and humanly raised and killed animals its still crap. You are what you eat, but we are the world, and the world is #. If eating items that are labeled all natural(the fact that "all natural" should even have to be labeled is pretty god damn sick if you ask me), organic, or are from your local farmers market makes you feel good then that's great. I tend to do the same because it gives me peace of mind. Yet, most likely any benefits gained are nothing more then a pleasant placebo.

You're pretty much right on with everything you said. I'm glad that there are others that understand this. I do know that we sometimes punish ourselves because of inner convictions subconsciously. I understand some of what goes on in our minds and food is the chemistry used most often to keep us thinking in a certain way. I hid behind food chemistry to dampen my intellect for years to try to fit into society. It wasn't fun analyzing everything all my life. "What's your poison" and "You are what you eat" are real sayings.

We have a lot of people out there that have power, money, and knowledge and try to control us with chemistry in our food Sometimes what we are perceiving as corrective measures actually make us disillusioned because the chemistry of all food is changing. We need to eat natural real food grown locally. Food that does not strengthen the Plants Defense System to make it inedible to humans just to make it prettier. I see corruption being allowed in the organic commercial practices of food production. This doesn't mean it is in all organic food though and eating organic is better than eating commercial. Organic food regulations allow the use of organic chemistry that we are not designed to eat. Used as insecticides and miticides in growing and extending shelf life these organic practices are sometimes confusing to the body Sometimes we cannot digest things right if their chemistry is altered and the body senses something else.. You have to remember that the things that are most toxic to humans are of organic nature.

The FDA was created for the interest of big business. The American chemistry organization that existed before that was way less corrupted.

All things need to be taken into consideration.

Er, how so? The legal definition of organic precludes the use of genetically modified seeds.

grown in the presence of commercial machinery, pollution, and pestilence.

That depends entirely on where you get your foods from.
