Truly though, I would love a benevolent one world government just like Roddenberry's vision of starfleet.
However, the UN has proven to be most deadly to anyone who has resources or who will not bow down.
So, if we have not achieved world peace, how could we ever have a one world government?
That is putting the horse before the cart, show me 100 years of world peace, then we can reconsider this nwo.
Until then, the thought is silly at the very least.

This is exactly why we can't afford a one world government RIGHT NOW. The idea isn't a bad one and I actually believe in resources based economy and socialistic views, but not with the leaders and mentality humans have now.

Me too, consider an one world government the next logical and best step forward. But.....if the power structure is not secured against corruption and sociopaths/ psychopaths there is no chance it will ever succeed.

The way things are now it doesn't look good. The organisers work in secret...which is a very bad omen.....and the overall signals are not in favour of having a world government.

Wrong it's totally irrelevant as to whether it's success depends on sociopaths/psychopaths and corruption. All the power players have to do is convince the majority that their intentions are whole heartedly in the people best interest and when that is accomplished they obtain full control and thats it they can do as they please without any opposition to overthrow them which in my opinion is a huge success atleast for the heirarchy. That is why a one world government will never work. There must be a opposition to overthrow tyrannical leaders and without a powerful tyrannical opposition the future of 99.99999999% of us will be death, or slavery. The OP's train of thought is more dangerous to society than the nukes dropped on Nagasaki and hiroshima combined times 100!

Part 1

Let me boil this down to some simple natural laws we all (admit it or not) we are affected by.

1. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutly.
We have seen too many good men and people fall into this trap who had the best of intentions. How many people joined hitler in the begining not realizing what his ultimate goal was and have blood on their hands. Politicians who went to washington and now are just as bad as the people before them. George Orwell gave a good example of this in his book Animal farm.

2. Men/women have the ability in them for good or evil.
Some will do evil. The reason may be mental issues, upbringing, or (although many don't want to admit it) for some unknown reason are just evil.

3. Good and evil may be defined not by acts but by beliefs/laws/systems.
For example in soviet russia independent thought and questioning of authority was considered bad/evil and punished severely. In Islamic countries having a different faith can mark you for death. In one cartoon it showed a women dressed in a bikini and another one in a burka. Both looked at each other and called each other oppressed and from each of their views they were right.

4. In pure natural law the strong will always attack and dominate the weak. There is no retirement, helping the weak, or justice unless you can make it yourself. Can you see what the outcome on humanity under this?

Now how as a species have we survived these (and many others I have not mentioned due to space limitations) natural laws/contditions? It is due to one basic law of nature I have left to now.

The law of checks and balances.

Here are some examples from simple animals to man

When a deer population gets too many they have disease and starvation issues. The check and balance is a die off untill the balance of sustainablity is restored.

When England became too oppressive to its colonies in the america's it was kept in check by a rebellion that created the United states.

When a government becomes evil and tries to spread it to the rest of the world as in the case of Nazi Germany, Imperialistic Japan and Facist Italy there were other nations of different mentalities that stood together to stop them. Another check and balance.

Or in a purely academic discussion Democratic US and Communist Russia kept each other in check during the cold war.

In either case the corrections were not always without cost, bloodshed, or hardship. It was not always efficient or totally just/fair. But it keeps one system/belief/government/ect from getting to a point where it could have total control and given the 3 natural laws I mentioned lead to total distruction of us as a species. Or at the very least a lifestyle I don't think even the most utopian believer would want.

We have seen examples in literature like Animal farm and 1984 by George Orwell. To a truly frighting movie like Logans run. Although to get the full effect of what can go wrong the book is 10X better, and frighting in realistic detail.

Then there is the real life failures due to the natural laws.

Ancient Rome under coigula and ceser. Or the whole downfall of rome in general.

Socialist/communist Russia

Or any of the hippie communes of the 1960-1970's. None are still standing and the failures are well documented.

Or even the example of Jim Jones and Georgetown.

Part 2

Now some here have stated the Gene Roddenberry star trek "STARFLEET" as a possibility.

Well it is possible but one must realize the REAL REASON it would (and in the story did) exist.

It was not the war that nearly ended the human race. It was not a joint launguage or belief system. It was not even alien contact.

It was the universal law of Check and Balance.

It was the fact that now even though we had our differences, languages, beliefs, or we had "matured as a species (but cannot say it did not play a factor), but that we had other planets/life forms/belief systems to keep us in check and vice versa.

We had other people/aliens and (more importantly) other groups/governments/systems (the kingon empire, Romulan empire, Orion syndicate, ect) to keep the balance so no one system/race went overboard.

So you see nothing can exist as a total system anywhere whithout natural checks and balances. From the simple plant, to a deer, to man, to a governmental system.

It is not easy, without mistakes, loss of life, and costs of many different types. It is not a shield to the unexpected (example killer asteroid or sun unexpect going nova).

But overall it works.

So no "one world government" will exist in any sustainable form until there is something equal (at minimum) to keep it in balance.

Anything else is not only asking for trouble, but inviting disasters like Ancient rome or Jonestown.

Those who don't study history are doomed to repeat it.

I am not going to speak about who in theory needs/does not need.. There are few things though, that we all (and yeah, I really do mean all) should (and IMO need to) have rights to, things such as clean food/water. To be allowed to flourish as a human being. Those should be simple examples, but there are plenty more, and I am also sure most of you are smart enough to figure at least a few of them out.

A world government, yeah probably will happen at some point, in what context is yet unseen. Is it what "we" or "I" need? Maybe, maybe not.. I think honestly, that given the right circumstances, and motives, that it is what should happen, but that won't happen just by someone waving a hand and saying, welcome to the nwo. We have to remember that there are things that do all really need or should have (again, maybe only IMO.. though, I cannot understand why it would not make sense otherwise. Or it does, if double standards are as prevalent in society as I seem to notice.. but I am really hoping I'm just crazy

I've seen people mention references to ideal world government scenarios, Star Fleet, etc. That would be great haha! Those that are saying it can't happen, we're violent, blah blah.. Just remember that all of the events that led to the start of their new understandings, followed in the aftermath of devastating war..
People just took one HELL of a push, because "we" can be so damned stubborn sometimes
haha..

I just think that if enough of us actually wanted to, we could work something out, amongst ourselves, the people (the ones that are supposed to be the government) (I know that sounds scary as hell to some of you, and it should, most people today shouldn't be in power, but if you think about the possibility that we're being controlled already, stupefied, drugged, televised programmed, whatever, then maybe it makes sense

Maybe my opinion is invalid, maybe we are destined to fight it out, until there is someone standing, or not. Maybe stuff like this is just the "programming" that "the powers that supposedly be" want you to have, to think we can not get along?

I think it's ridiculous to believe there is no way to get along , regardless of whatever variables of faith/culture/whatever "you" or "we" or "I" or "they" may have (or think one has).
"We" are smarter than this..right?

Kneejerk reactions are common, especially when you are trained to react in that way.

When you knock down the divisions between Us, you knock a huge whole in the profit margin of those who sell fences. Fence makers will make up things to protect their business.

Either way, it IS upon us.

One world, one world government.

Now, do You want to get involved or keep belly aching from the peanut gallery?

You're living in a dream world.
The only way a one world government would come about is by force or manipulation.
So it wouldn't be a very good system you coward.
What gives you the impression that I want to be with you, next to you, helping you etc?
Because you live in your little fantasy world?
That's not my fault.
My point is that we're not the same. As much as plants are all the same, they're different.
We might need the same basic things, but maybe what I want is not what you want.
And no one is going to stop me wanting just because some mind controlled fools want to be part of fake collective brought to you by the powers that be.

You say nothing about all the elite who control through secret cabals.
What you gona do with them then?

I also find it rediculous to believe there's no way for us all to get along. However it will only work with countries all agreeing to the same ethical standards and intent on following through with those agreements. It would never happen as a one world government because that one world government whether you think it's a good idea or not will sooner or later become a tyrannical oppressive monster which will be fought from the inside very ineffectively. Now what's holding us back from world peace are a number of issues. The banking cartels (Rothschilds) lust for world domination through control of currency resulting in economic manipulation. Another is religion. Most of the religious havoc gets blamed on muslims however the Israelis have been carrying out false flag attacks on countries posing as Muslims for decades and have committed war crimes over and over again without any repercussions. Another is corporate greed, IE buying patents which would further humanities fight against famine , and financial strains then burying them to insure their businesses don't need to invest and adapt spending more money into their newly purchased technology. Black ops programs ran within many governments around the world that are designed to dumb down , kill , and control their populations making them more easily influenced in the direction of the status quo. All these need to be resolved and there also needs to be a non interventionist treaty all governments must sign and whole heartedly agree with then and only then there may be world peace. Respect others rights to live the way they wish it's their life and aslong as its not hurting anyone then there's no reason to intervene. Too many people feel they have the right to push their ideals and faith on others.

It is just what the Antichrist will need to fulfill some of the Biblical prophesies about him. So it will happen, sooner or later.

The good news is that the Antichrist will be no match for Jesus when He returns.

Now you know why I am a "short term pessimist long term optimist"!

You've just explained perfectly why a one world government cannot work. You've also explained perfectly why America cannot work. All people are different. How can Congress or the POTUS make sure the 350,000,000(+/-) citizens in this country are properly represented, most of whom are white Christian men, when they only focus on their own needs, while demonizing the rest?

A one world government cannot work because people are all different and unwilling to help their fellow man. For that same reason, Democracies and Republics fail. Governments don't fail people, other people do.

If we study recent history, say, the last century or so, patterns emerge. Those patterns show that every new social movement is accompanied by lots of killing. Blood by the buckets.

Some people quote Stalin's victims at 20 million. Some quote Mao Zedong's victims at 40 million. Some quote Pol Pot's victims at a mere 3 million. What you may not realize is that US politicians, three-letter-agencies and troops have had a hand in many, many movements since the end of WW2. If all the victims of US "foreign policy" (aka murder, theft, etc) stood up from their grave at one time; we would have one hell of a population problem.

The major point being: If we have a one-world-government movement, there will be no-where to hide. In past movements, those wise enough to see the handwriting on the wall could escape by simply leaving the conflict area. No more. The conflict will be coming to you. And I absolutely guarantee you that troops will be seizing your property, raping your women and bringing death to your neighborhood. You can preview this coming "attraction" by examining the behavior of US forces in the middle east over the last several decades.

Bad scene.

As long as you're being intellectually curious why don't you explore the other side of the issue as well? As human conscience evolves isnt the whole concept of government becoming more and more obsolete?

So instead of yearning for one large and inevitably flawed central control system, try yearning for a society based upon individual responsibility, local community based cooperation, and personal liberty. In a society where information is finally becoming the right of the masses the ability to self govern, which is truly the ultimate panacea, may finally come to fruition.

Impossible you say, human nature you say, well no more impossible or counter to human nature than the implementation of a global centralized human control system that actually functions for the purpose of ensuring personal liberty and the rights of individuals. If history is your guide then your world government would at minimum be a bloated incompetent bastion of elitism and special interest, at worst it would be a tyrannical entity with the capability of producing violence and human suffering on a previously unimaginable scale. I doubt you could say either about a localized community system based upon individual liberty and personal responsibility.

Oh we will have a one world government (the bible says so), the problem is it will be run by satan.

If you want to see the one world government dream of the masonic luciferians and other babylonian workers of iniquity read Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. Also, Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged will show you how they plan to get there.

There is only one way out ... eternal life ...

You Know after reading all these post its still a 50/50 split for pro and con of this subject.

I don't believe it will work there are several example through human existence of this concept of one world and leader and has never ended well for any involved.

Human nature is has big part in this all. There are follower and leaders.

The followers just will do the status quo and go about their daily routine and won't question. They will just say "Thats the way things are", "What can you do but go along with it", "Don't make waves, you'll just make it bad for the rest of us"

The leaders will always challenge.
They know thats not how things should be and don't want to follow blindly and become a slave but will keep looking for a way out and how to escape from the chains and turn the tide.

Human nature also has the good of heart and the me before you attitude, which may never change even though they are trying to breed it out of us or dumb us down and start the brainwashing from birth through the school years.

With human nature all involved on this planet have a primal instinct to survive, which will lead you in different directions, Some will fight to stay alive, some will bow down to survive and do what they are told, others will point out ones who haven't complied with the masters and hope to win favor and mercy. Others will always resist to slavery and secretly start to fight back or be fighting back from the get go.

With human nature no matter how good the intentions are power will blind you and lose focus of what it was that you were trying to do in the first place. greed sets in, the want of wanting to be on top and control all. your vision of whats right and whats wrong. beginning to think you are a God and want to be treated as such and all must bow in front of you.

Also with human nature and religion, My god and religion is better then yours and should be the only one. So the groups split up and kill each other, for what reason , only the real God if there is one only knows.

Stupidity and Ignorance, Greed and want always seems to rule the day.

Me personally, I just want to be left alone, so my family and I can just make it day to day. iI never mixed well with people giving me orders that i didn't believe in. My family and i have worked hard for what we got and will fight for it if push comes to shove. We rather all be dead then slaves. Thats just me and my family we all came from a rough neighborhood in NYC that you fought for everything everyday or someone would take what you got if you didn't stand up for yourself. I don't know anything about anyone else here so i couldn't speak for anyone else here at ATS, but i ve always been a fighter and will continue to fight for whats right for me.

Truthfully i don't really give a damn about most people in this world cause everyone has there own motive and agenda and will always say one thing and do another, I don't see it as my job to feed the world or take care of them. My job is to look after my family first then friends and close neighbor's if possible, but not a priority for me.

My close family and i have prepared ourselves for emergencies and if someone hasn't had the foresight to do the same thats their ignorance misfortune not mind. i don't feel compelled in any way to help them and neither would the the people in control of this world they would be looking after themselves not you, so please don't be delusional to some utopia.

This world is real ugly and will only get uglier if there is a one world rule.

Sure it would be nice if everyone got along and everything would be smiling faces, butterflies and sunshine. we may be thousands of years away from the vision if ever and some much catastrophe would have to happen that would devastate this planet that few left alive would somehow band together, but distance would keep that from happening and the vicious cycle would start all over again in time.

Sorry can't see how a one world rule will ever benefit everyone on this planet equally Its not the nature of humans to do such.

Although the vision of one world government, as you described is wonderful, but there's undeniably a one great advantage -scientific development surge, due to consolidated brain power and budget. We could achieve many scientific breakthroughs, fund manned mission to Mars, Jupiter. Without war, there would be so much resources to spend on science, hell even US without those ridiculous stimulus packages, could additionally fund NASA for 50 years. So imagine the possibility of whole world.
But the 120000 years of history proves it is only utopian bull#

We need a one world government, whether you like it or not

We need a one world government like we need a Walmart Supercenter to replace every small store and small business in every town in America.

We need a one world government like we need but one kind of food in our pantries. Beef-a-Roni every morning, every afternoon and every night.

We need a one world government like we need just one channel on TV that we can watch, playing a single program 24 hours a day.

We need a one world government like we need a single, global ISP. No choice, no alternatives.

A one world government - take it or... wait. Never mind. You won't be able to leave it, either.
