If anyone is dumb enough to think that the military hierarchies of the UK were not informed by the Russians that an aircraft carrier was going to cross their waters on it's way to Syria, then this message is for you: You're an idiot.

A move of such magnitude is ALWAYS accompanied by a "hey, we're not attacking" memo.

Now for those who think that a major war would be exciting, are you fricking kidding me?

Exciting is not the word I used to describe the last great war, which by the way cost 60 MILLION LIVES. It also changed the lives and focus of pretty much every single individual on the planet for SEVEN long years.

Great wars like the one that is potentially 'just around the corner', are not exciting, they're not fun and they're not something that ANY of you will simply get to experience from a book.

I've had my terrifying seven years, and thanks to my age and current location I will not have to go abroad and experience it again. Nevertheless I WILL be affected, my loved ones WILL be affected and some of them will even be lost during the conflict.

Discussing such an event as though it's a TV movie is ridiculous. You will all see my point if the events unfold the way they're being predicted.

.....But Obama got the Nobel Peace Prize.....lol!

Russia doesn't stand a chance. I don't know if China would side with Russia since Russia sold those submarines to Vietnam...plus new Frigates...new fighter planes.....

China would likely say....too bad Russia. Unless Vietnam was playing America for a sucker and Russia/Vietnam/China/Venezuela/Iran/North Korea all band together.

Those 11 Aircraft Carrier Battle Groups better all be ready and out of Port soon.

I do not know what international rules are in place to dictate whether this is a sign of aggression, but I would think that a warship of any sort in another country's aqua-territory (I like to make up words) would be a sign of aggression, unless permission was secured beforehand granting travel rights.

But maybe anyone can enter any country's aqua-territory, although they would be subject to that country's laws. It isn't like there are passport checkpoints lining the aqua-territorial-borders. So as long as they aren't breaking that country's laws, they can sail through their waters? That is what it seems like to me at least.

Can anyone clarify this point? I will attempt to find the answer myself after this post as well. I would think that what I described about entering territorial waters should hold true, but I do not believe it should apply to instruments of war, such as a huge warship.

There is not only major saber-rattling, but toes are beginning to get stepped on. It looks like we might get a chance to mix it up with the former Soviet Union again...Yay, that's just great.

Firstly Britain IS NOT England. Britain consists of Wales, Scotland, northern Ireland and England. Ok that's clear.
Secondly, Russia aren't looking for war cause it would pretty much destroy their economy, remember guys, RUSSIA IS POOR. Now china, if china got involved their riches would be gone due to the sanctions. They are only rich due to massive manufacturing and massive amounts of exports. All UN has to do is sanction them like hell and they are out if the game.

Am I worried about nukes? No. I believe us Brits do have a missile defence (I don't mean the T-45 destroyers).
Oh yes, our army may not have the best gear but as I've said....we've got a fantastic army and can take on anyone...with the right leader.

And this shows your ignorance, firstly Russia is not poor, it's people maybe poor, or the vast majority of them, but Russia is not, it is the most mineral rich nation in the world. Secondly the UN cannot sanction either Russia or China because both countries are permanent members of the UN security council and have the right of veto and can block any move to sanction any country if they so wish, just as the US does with Israel.

People seem to keep discussing Russia and China as two separate entities, which goes to prove that people don't watch what is really going on. Russia and China are now partners, along with many other nations they are part of the B.R.I.C.S agreement, Russia and China along with Iran are planning a joint missile defence shield. If a war does start with Russia, it will be against both Russia and China and the west cannot win that war.

WW3 cannot be won by any side either east or west it can only end in stalemate or with both sides losing because when the nukes start flying it is the world finished, there is no way for example the US will allow an invasion force to step foot on US soil, it would nuke the country first, the same can be said for Russia and China.

Having said all that, this is a non story, Russia has every right to be in international waters, each countries territorial waters only extends 12 miles from shore, that is maritime law, and it is common practice that enemy combative ships to be escorted when close to their territorial boundary, think about it logically if we truly felt threatened we would send more than one destroyer to face a carrier group.

people on here must have the most boring of lives, its like everyone wants a disaster, wants WW3 to bring some excitement to their miserable existence, with no real idea of the consequences, a nuclear exchange will destroy the world, it will ruin everything for everyone, take a good look at the link below and tell me you want that the world over, that you want your kids, your families going through that

Believe me, since Russia resumed nuclear flights over our countries our militaries started and resumed the biggest training and practice operations since the cold war. Also in UK.

Russian Bear airplanes which are capable of carrying nuclear bombs occasionally fly over and are accompanied by our jet fighters in case something goes wrong, they are redirected and handed over to the next country. From Poland to UK and Scotland and even through Scandinavia. At the moment I'm typing this I can hear helicopters and Jet fighters doing their practices which is now daily since this year's resume of Russian intimidation.

When Russia flew over Denmark, Denmark reacted by sending a full fleet toward Moscow for a bombing run if needed. I'm sure this doesn't hit your news papers? There is a damn reason for that!

Go to google and look up how Medvedev and Poetin are war mongering lately!

That cant be done unless Denmark borrowed a refueler from NATO.

If this was true it would have made sensational news all over the world. The Russian would have made a parody show of that stunt.

It was an act of intimidation from Russia and Denmark was tired of it. They issued their fleet to head to Moscow which wasn't realistic especially since this wasn't discussed with the other memberstates. Aside from the technical issues with this action it was unrealistic and they headed back above the Baltic sea.

This was actually very big news in Europe.

The Sun newspaper has pictures of the ships. What gets me is that they sent a ship from Portsmouth at the other end of the country to take a look.

They say the UK goverment didnt know this ship was going to pass so close. When did we know it was too close.

Link to newspaper article.

If it was legitimate that they were coming in closer to the mainland due to bad weather why didn’t they contact the coastguard or navy stating that they were.

Why get close enough to cause a reaction from our military.

Were they curious to see what our reaction time would be.

Syrian task force.

Warships in a Russian navy task force headed for Syria have sought shelter off the Scottish coast from stormy weather.

Elements of the Baltic Fleet - including an aircraft carrier and support ships - started arriving in the Moray Firth on Monday.

Russian military news agency Interfax-AVN said on Tuesday the fleet sought shelter in "deteriorating weather".

Royal Navy destroyer HMS York was shadowing the vessels.

The Royal Navy and Ministry of Defence have released images of the Type 42 destroyer close to the Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov.

Other Russian ships that sought shelter in the Moray Firth included aircraft-carrying cruiser Admiral Flota Sovetskogo Soyuza Kuznetsov.

Other vessels were the anti-submarine warfare ship Admiral Chabanenko and escort ship Yaroslav Mudryy, according to Interfax-AVN.

Russia and China could easily be kicked out of the UN. I don't think Russia are stupid to fire nukes unless a last resort. Besides it only takes one missile to take out their missile defence...a missile America has just successfully tested.

I dont think Russia are would try anything, until they upgrade and expand their armed forces. I'm just watching what the US government are doing.

I am well aware of the change in the agreement for Russian flights over most of Europe. That's why I stated in my last post that this was through the 1990's.
Since then, we have indeed seen Russian bombers attempting to test our responses, I remember a specific incident a few years ago when a bomber approached and the RAF was scrambled. We also had an incident with a Russian sub. And as both of these were publicized and no effort was made by the UK government to play them down or paint them as anything else, it's clear to me that they probably were nefarious in nature.

However, there is still no readiness for the UK to be at war with any other nation. Unless there is some form of surprise attack to kick something off, we would hear the war drums beating and preparing the people for it. Just as we're seeing the war drums beating for an attack on Iran.

There would be a wealth of intelligence informing the UK of an imminent attack from any other nation. The UK has one of the strongest intelligence agencies on the planet, probably only rivaled by the USA. Rest assured that we have had agents in Russia for a very long time, and this would not have changed. Just as they have assets here, we will be gathering information from them and we will likely know if anything is planned.

The day that Russia fires any weapon at any nation is the day that I'll be worried about our likelihood of going to war. If the USA attacks Iran, or makes any move against Syria, which elicits a response from Russia, then it's time to be concerned and start listening to the murmurs from our government about Russia.

Until then, what we're seeing is nations dancing around each other, complaining about each other, making defensive moves to protect their investments and partnerships, and nothing more than that. It's just another day at the office.

Thank you Sir for your service! I hope that many people take your words to heart. Todays kids, including many people in here equate war to a video game. It is not. There is a reason that the saying "War is Hell" exists. Its not ripping someones head off on PS-3 and then trying to refuel your lives and shields so that you can go out again and press the buttons to destroy the enemy. It will be real. It will be sudden and it WILL be devastatng on a scale not seen in THIS cycle of humanity.

I used to work at Faslane Naval base, I would imagine so nice Astute class subs are sitting right under these ships as we speak ready to push the button if needed. They have sent the ship from Portsmouth purely to show something on the surface. I would rather have 3 Astutes to 1000 ships.

Just to let you know all know, one of my pilots just informed me this second of the aircraft carrier sitting in UK waters around 10 miles from one of my rigs.

Sheltering due weather, surrounded by war ships. Alot of people on the deck watching our choppers etc.
Pilots were not informed before hand.

LOL

All this has turned into is

It was understood the Royal Navy informed the National Maritime Information Centre about rubbish being dumped from the carrier. A Ministry of Defence (MoD) source said it was almost certainly food waste that was dumped

we are now accusing them off fly tipping waste overboard into the forth!

HAHAHAHA

Oh why i oughta!!

What a farce.
