You think you can keep an ADHD child with behavior issues in a corner?

Good luck with that.

I have said this way too many times...
All our problems with schools seem to start in california.

Probably only because California reports them.

Where has most of the bullying occurred and only becomes and issue when some kid kills him/herself.

Yep,I can.
I have a child with ADHD.
My wife is an ECE specialist for some 18 years now.(Thats the new term for special ed,btw)
We have refused the medications recommended by the doctors, she has been on a strict diet.
She is 13 now,has seem to have grown out of it and is fine now.
It just takes time, patience and love.
Alot of parents don't have the time and patience and would rather dope their kids up then have to deal with it.

Thank you for posting this, as disturbing as it is. As many others have said, if this were my kid, people would pay. Period.

There is a great police officier. He can't handle a 5 year old without being this physical and lacking in common sense What is he going to do in an actual situation? Can you imagine how he will handle his own kids? Or how he would handle a beligerant wife? He should be fired for his inability to properly consider a situation and handle it correctly. You can already tell this man is a major issue looking for a place to happen.

I'm glad you agree, no one here could disagree
the kid would STOP acting out if he knew he was
going to get pepper sprayed and tazed....

Pepper spray and taze him a few times and see how quick
he gets his crap together..

I certainly do think I could, as that was my job for quite a few years. I worked withh autistic and adhd kids, and kids with abised pasts. Not once did I ever have to zip tie a kid, and I was involved in many tense situations.

I'm sorry if your child had an actual condition, so please don't take offense while I belittle all the other "umbrella" diagnoses of ADHD.

I know there are some real cases out there. But I also know I would have been a pretty severe case, and my Mom would never have medicated me. Instead, she challenged me, she had me reading by age 4, playing sports, doing chores, riding my bike, etc., etc. I went to work with Dad sometimes. I was kept busy, and challenged. They also took time to actually listen to me, and explain things when necessary.

In 99% of the supposed cases of ADHD, there is no need for medication, no need for cops, no need for anything except to tailor the raising of that child for whatever fits that child the best.

My 4 year old has some major issues as well. He was born 3 months premature, went through some extremely hard times for 2 years, his story is all over ATS, the point is, he will NEVER be on behavior modifying medication. No chance, no way, no how. Luckily, our local public school is very good, and they treat him wonderfully, and they treat him how he needs to be treated. I'll bet a cool G right now that he ends up graduating at the top of his class, even if he does have some hiccups along the way!

Even if he turns into Warren Zevon's creation, I'll still be his Daddy, and I'll do whatever it takes for him. I'm on his side no matter what.

Enjoy

Somewhere in the recent past, common sense, and critical thought went out the window. When you read this and stories of kids being fined for lemonade stands in the US, something has gone very wrong. This is just pathetic,

AGAIN - - - as you should know ADHD is an umbrella label. Not all ADHD children have behavior issues - - but some do.

My daughter was diagnosed at age 5 - - way back in 1968 before it was well known. She had zero attention span on a one-to-one. Her teacher had to squeeze her hands when talking to her to get her to focus.

She couldn't even focus to watch cartoons on TV. The only thing that got her attention was on Sesame Street when they "quick flashed" the numbers.

We had to turn her room into a "padded cell" - - to protect her from her hyper activity - - just so I could do a few normal things around the house.

Maybe your daughter could sit in a corner - - mine could not. Nor would I subject her to such a thing.

I had a fabulous doctor who did not believe in medicating children except in extreme cases. He is the one who suggested safety proofing her room to give her a place she could be herself.

I'll disagree. My 4 year old will tell you exactly what his punishment is about to be, and he'll do stuff anyway. He is sharp as a whip, and he knows the consequences ahead of time, and he accepts them when they come. He even apologizes for whatever he has just done, and he means it. BUT, he does some crazy stuff anyway. One example is, he absolutely CANNOT stop talking, singing, humming, etc. I guarantee I could mace him, taze him, or whatever, and as soon as he caught his breath, he would apologize, and start talking or singing immediately. Instead of forcing him, we just help direct him to something appropriate, help him control the volume, and help him understand the difference between requests and demands by his parents. He is slowly learning to shut up if we demand silence for some type of emergency, but he can't hold it long, LOL!

Annee, my 4 year old never even notices a TV is on in the room. It absolutely cannot hold his attention. In fact, the only thing that can hold his attention is his 5 year old brother. He will mimic everything his brother does, so if his brother is coloring or something, then he will do it too. BUT, if his brother is watching cartoons, then he is running wild. He also hates to go to bed at night, and he is the first one up in the morning. He tosses and turns all night under the covers. He almost always wakes up naked (which the school has had a problem with at nap time, LOL)!

Still, he speaks and enunciates perfectly. He is already doing math and trying to read. He thinks about a response before he answers, and he pops off some of the most unique and interesting answers and theories ever! He is extremely intelligent, he just can't sit still, and he has no use for mind-numbing time-wasters. In fact, he is probably the one doing things right, and all the rest of us have things backwards.

Also interesting to note that no one is available for comment. Yep, viral video is bad for your job, whether the cop or the school board.

There are a lot of incensed parents out there, myself included, having watched the video now.

What does that have to do with a child who has a behavior problem?

WHAT kind of child goes and ATTACKS a police officer?

If you have a child that attacks a POLICE OFFICER, well, then they DESERVE being restrained!!!

WHAT are his parents TEACHING HIM???

Attacking a police officer who came to HELP OUT with their situation??

GOOD GRIEF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You clearly do not have children and have not been around children. HE IS 5 YEARS OLD! You might convince me if he was 12 going on 13, but he is 5! Not the correct response to a 5 year old.

He's FIVE!

He pushed away the cops hand, and he kicked his knee, apparently as they were seated, so it could have been an accident, or just a warning to back off. He has every right to demand his personal space. This is not an "attack."

If you are mad, and some do-gooder comes up and tries to touch you, and you push them away, you have every right to do so.

Besides, it seems obvious the cop has no child-rearing skills, so his "help" was surely misdirected.
