OWS Website Bans Alex Jones

The reason they ban fascists is because they are communists. You know the world is truly free when both fascists are marginalized.

I'm still for the movement, but man that's some terrible decisions here. I understand how they don't want to be associated with conspiracy theories though, it does not project a great image.

More and more it looks like the OWS will fade away. I believe they'll calm down and come back in strength when spring comes back around. Humanity is awakening, and with the coming world events, global protests can only grow.

I find that censorship ridiculous, even though I disagree with AJ's fear-mongering.

He fully supports the movement, and I'm of the same opinion as him: this looks like the long awaited awakening. Why did they ban him?

i'm really shocked there are ATS'ers that agree with this treatment of other people's free speech. i agree with their right to ban him, completely and their reasoning for wanting to limit advertising. just doesn't look too good from where i'm sitting, that they are screaming for free speech and then very specifically choosing who is allowed it and who is not. man, if this doesn't take the cake, i don't what does.

The original terms & conditions page stated what the OP posted. It specifically listed David Icke, Alex Jones, Lyndon LaRouche, & David Duke. I saw the page with my own eyes. About 4-6 hours later, the specific names were taken down & the general term "conspiracy theories" was left. You are the one who seems to be jumping to conclusions w/o any knowledge of what you rail against. Free Speech is the topic at hand, not Ad Hominem bullsh*t. Limits on any Speech in a supposedly free & egalitarian forum that represents the 99% of all human society is very telling. It's cool to spam Marxist ideology though

doesn't matter if obama himself, signed his paychecks or the queen of england or the swami of pastrami. either you support everyone's free speech or you don't. i mean i realize you need to keep it reasonable for public consumption such as not littered with ads, spammed data, profanity, nudity, etc, so a wide audience can injest it, but what are they thinking? are they trying to say now that conspiracy theory is not okay? is not okay to ask questions or form theories ? since WHEN?

how many times have we read ows'ers using jfk and mlk as evidence the gov is corrupt, both of whom were assassinated under conspiratorial conditions? are they going to edit all taht out of their forums too because the subjects often go into theoretical territory? what is wrong with this picture?

again, i agree with their rights on a private site, to do whatever they want within the laws, just wonder why they bother with the pretense of rights for everyone.

I support the right of a private organization to moderate their property to avoid the promotion of things that they do not want promoted. The website isn't about conspiracy theory, it's about Occupy wall st.

It has never ceased to amaze me, the way that those wonderful "pioneers" standing up for the rights of the common man...In this case, the 99%, stand tall, strong, and proud about freedom and so on. Then, they suddenly find themselves gaining some level of respectability or at least recognition. Money starts flowing, influence starts growing... And then.......... WHOOOOOPS!!!!!!!!

That darned old human condition moves in. Suddenly they start putting money in the very banks they want to disband.. They find that their message doesn't mean so much to every underemployed and under appreciated common person out there. Hmmmm.... M aybe we don't need "ALL" the folks fighting on our side that we had. Maybe, we really need some more respectability and generalized social stability. Hmmmmm.... I know... We'll get rid of people who aren't living up to our image... The one that makes us more correct than the other side, and the one that shows that we can be reasonable, as well...

Most of you folks don't stop and notice (or maybe it's just me)... But "stuff" happens in a certain way on this planet. It always has and always will due to the human condition. No matter how hard you try to change the status quo, it stays the same. You will, in the final analysis, become the "Status Quo". Look at all the Hippies form the 60's. All that change, all that power, and energy for a new, brighter different future. And many of them now, are the very powers that be.

I was not calling you a Marxist/communist, I'm sorry if it came off that way. I was only pointing out that certain ideologies & agendas are allowed at OWS, why not all. Opposition & debate are the true tenets of a People's Movement.

Agreed. I have been seeing this nationally and have been concerned lately. OccupySLC is a different, probably becasue we are here in the West and we like our guns. I'm trying to make sure that we stay away from the possible co-opting that is happening in other places. I am the liason for the NRA, gun rights activists and prepper groups and I am attempting to bridge the gap here. I think we are all about to get spanked in a big way regardless of our right / left orientation.

Yes but on topic. During a debate should a third party be able to interject any old thing they feel like? We are not talking about in the streets or at GA's etc. We are talking about an online forum that is used as a channel for people all over the world to learn and coordinate with other occupiers/supporters and bounce ideas for the movement off eachother. It isn't a conspiracy forum, it isn't an election forum, it isn't a share your recipies forum. This is what forums must do in order to stay focused on why they created the forum to begin with. Makes sense right?

you didn't just say that? the movement bases it's political ideology on things like 9-11 being an inside job, the corruption in government that is sometimes proveable and sometimes not, and more conspiracies per square inch than you can shake a stick at.

Yes I did, The "movement" does not have a single voice, I would agree that how the USA economy is and what has been happening, the increasing rape of rights and expectations, allied with a bleak future for the 99% is the core issue, next to the blatant increase in profits and power (economic and politic) by the 1%.

The rest, the conspiracies can be seen as streaming from those facts (I do support some conspiracies and some are not conspiracies at all) lets take for instance the killing of JFK, there is a multitude of reasons to protest, putting them in a cute box with a little bow will not make it more pleasant or rational, people protest because they are unsatisfied with the status quo and request a change.

Again, there is no specific list of demands nor a representative or single voice for the movement, this also implies that there is not a single solution to the issue therefore the common ground is a need for change.

Not making significant changes by those that have the power to enact policy and execute it will only increase the social unrest that the movement expresses, on the other hand to reduce the unrest changes should attempt to target at least the general issues behind the unrest.

We see Alex Jones as being apart of the problem and continually offering "doom and gloom" for which we smart people are actually sick of. He is not apart of the solution but remains as apart of the problem.

How can he say what he says and is still being allowed to walk free? What's his angle? Who's backpocket is he in and it's definately not Genesis Communicaitons!

Alex Jones sucks these days. That being said ... I'm not surprised that OWS has banned him. Jones is a believer in freedom of speech, and the OWS clearly isn't in favor of freedom of speech (no matter what they claim otherwise) unless what is being said totally agrees with them.

Whether it's a private site or not. They banned him and others they don't want people reading. There is noway around that fact.

True, and it represents their particular "tribe". It doesn't represent ours at all. We are trying a community / neighborhood based approach to survival, essentially creating localized survival tribes with a direct 90-10 consensus approach that deal with neighborhood issues like defensibility, food procurement, policing, community outreach, etc. Ideally, this would be neighbors getting together to clean out the crap and set up some kind of working system within their own block. It's in its infancy, but it would absolutely embrace followers of AJ and gun activists. The "leaders" don't speak for the communities, just for their own self interests. OWS folks are blogging about the possible co-opting of the movement in NY and are not in support of it. It appears to be a select few with possible covert backing that are attempting to steer the movement away from "The Obama Deception" connection the government has assigned to the "Occupy Shooter" in DC.

It is entirely possible that awork group was formed around that very issue and that they decided to publically decry AJ and company for self preservation. Its hard to get consensus for something like that, so I suspect the website owners have decided to forgo the consensus process and publish anyway. I would not be suprised if general assemblies all over the country decide to deride the event. Not a wise move, as InfoWars et al are essential for understanding the way things are in the world right now.

Censorship and the 1st Amendment and internet webforums must maintain a very fine line whereas rules that dictate conduct and content on websites is needed in order to prevent the site itself from collapsing.

I hope the next group to be banned is the Ron Paul minions!

You do not have a Constitutional right on ATS to say, curse out and black out of Skeptic Overlord and Springer as it is their site and can run it any way they deem fit.
