exactly why Joe Pa got fired and the people who are rioting are confused.

Oddly, a kid tried to kill himself with a shot to the chest in front of the library today. Don't know if he took the time to tweet about it.

Sorry should of linked to the story: abclocal.go.com.../local&id=8428203

Wow, that's a beautiful girl...... was.

How can NOBODY listen to her? And, I'm not talking about the authorities, who cares about them, I'm talking about her friends, family, boyfriends, etc.

I've known some girls who were abused, and they got better through the support of their network of friends and family. Some of them got results from the police and some of them didn't, and some of them didn't even try, but they all got better.

If a friend of mine is on twitter for 6 hours lamenting and threatening suicide, I'm pretty sure it warrants a drive over to her house at the very least.

I wish this girl would have had 1 decent friend in her life. What a sad waste.

This is so sad. I hope karma will catch up to the people that hurt Ashley and give them what they deserve.

As for the twitter messages, you would think that ONE, just one person would have called her or tried to talk to her about it. Some people just don't seem to care about anyone but themselves.

I'm 18 years old as well, so this could have been one of my friends. People need to snap out of their own little bubbles that they call their lives, and pay attention to the well being of others.

R.I.P Ashley

What the hell is wrong with people nowadays? If it doesn't affect you then who cares seems to be the mindset of people in this country. Poor girl. Beautiful, smart, should have had a lot going for her but instead she was mind #ed by some sick asshole. May she rest in peace and the lord give her the justice she deserves.

This is the picture you asked to be uploaded.
I don't take any responsibility for knowing the identity of the male and on another note we have to be really careful not to vilify someone who may or may not be one of Ashley's abusers.
If this is the guy - blow up he pic and use it for a dartboard. If not? Make a copy and light a candle for the guy.
Problem is we're not sure who he is??? Just saying it's coming from the link you provided (or was posted in the thread).

His hand is gripping her right shoulder, not lovely layed upon it. Her face is very tense, her smile is closed, her chin is down and pulled inwards. I'm not a facial recognition guy, but I do love to flirt, and I know a closed, defensive posture when I see one! He also seems to be gripping the chair pretty tightly with his other hand, look at his thumb. He is controlling her with his posture, and she is defensive with hers.

I don't know anything about this case, but that doesn't look like a happy photo.

She is gorgeous though. Was. This is pretty heart-wrenching to see her, and hear about her torment, after she is gone. It's horrible, I wish I could have known her before.

I see what you see.
And - the pain in her eyes in both photos
on her MYSPACE page is heartbreaking.
I hope whoever did this to her gets called out and
quickly.

I posted the link to the external image on MySpace. If you look at the other picture of the 2 of them, it's labeled as her father. I didn't know how to embed the picture. Here's the link. Scroll down and see the label of the picture.

I'm not sure if it's the tone of the thread or the lack of information in the cited article, but there is something off about this story. The first thing that sticks out is that the person she accused is never mentioned (or only mentioned as a family member). Surely she would've named the person who wronged her in one of those 144 Tweets.

Next, I'm surprised to read the police didn't think there was enough evidence to charge anyone. Here's why: I have a friend who was accused of abuse by a teenaged step-daughter. He denied it. And everyone who knows my friend (including me) believes him. We were all very vocal to the police, etc about it. The police said her story was inconsistent. Despite a lack of evidence and no charges, he was court-ordered to be accompanied by another adult whenever he was around any children (especially his own, none of which had any complaint). As far as I know he's not listed as a sex offender, but it's safe to say his and his family's life was turned upside down. All based on the step-daughter's one accusation. The step-daughter has since hinted to some people that she made the whole thing up.

What I'm getting at is, in my friend's case, nobody believed the girl but still took measures to ensure her safety just in case. So in Ashley's case, I wonder if the police not only had nothing to go on but they truly thought she was lying.

Then, several of the articles mention how Ashley had a "theatrical" personality. A nice way of calling her a "drama queen?" No, I think that's a stretch. BUT she obviously had a flare for the dramatic. Through that lens, now the part of her story where she was prostituted out to numerous men sounds kind of...dramatic. To me, it actually sounds a little unbelievable. I'm not saying it doesn't happen. But based on the information being reported, it strikes me as odd that THAT piece of information alone wouldn't warrant an investigation.

So do I think she was lying about her abuse? I don't know, but I'm leaning towards yes.

To be clear, even if she was lying about everything I don't think she "deserved" to die. She was clearly a troubled person. And all of this is anecdotal anyway.

Ashley - rest still in the arms of a loving God.

This story has hit a nerve with me and I cannot express myself for legal reasons.
Just know that as a Teacher I care and I am also a former Police officer.
Also know that not every person walks away from situations that are often deemed 'too hard'.
I am not one of those people who walks away.

I will speak out when I am legally able to do so. You will want to know why Children like Ashley end up committing suicide. You will realise why we as a society have to watch our Children - not just parents - everyone. Every death of a Child demeans me - and you.

For those who believe please send me positive energy and prayers because I am currently in a situation that underlines the fact that our legal systems are fundamentally flawed (as if we did not already know). I happen to know why the system failed Ashley. I am putting heels in and am not budging - I have been in this situation for a year and have lost almost everything.

I will never walk away from a Child - never. Suicide is a scream for help from a person enveloped by pain and when a suicide is a success - then we as a society have failed. I am one person who is trying to hear that scream and trying my best to do what I can.

Ashley - rest still with a God who cares and know that you are now in a place to guide the rest of us - please guide us.

Much Peace...

Sorry for the girl and it was a tragedy... but..........

Although the whole world, especially younger people believe the world revolves around face book & twitter
I have to say that if you are in serious trouble and in the need for help Twitter IS NOT AN IDEAL place to find help.

For god's sake turn off your damn phone or computer and get help from someone in the REAL WORLD.

She had apparently been to the police, and her mother, and surely her friends knew about the accusations. She had 500 followers on twitter, and this went on for 6 hours.

Someone should have had the courtesy to reach out to her. Someone should have made her feel loved and not alone. If not that day, at least on another day. She seems to be a bright and a beautiful girl. Where are the folks that were supposed to give her some self worth?

Your post hit on a lot of points that were floating around in my head as well.
I hate to voice things like this because of the tragedy of the situation; however, I think it's only fair to look at the whole picture.

If I had to guess, I would say that she was indeed abused but due to personal troubles may have exaggerated the abuse to the point where it put her whole story into question.

Regardless of what was going on in her head, she only saw one option, which happened to be a very unfortunate one.

If she was lying about the abuse, it was still a desperate attempt at getting someone to notice and love her. I would never condone lying about something so serious, but the fact is, in hindsight, something was extremely wrong with her. If it wasn't abuse, then it was severe depression manifesting in other ways. Someone should have been able to save her. Someone should have taken notice of her. Someone should have given her unconditional love.

This story does seem odd to me too as a few others pointed out. Im not suprised the police did not do anything, most would not esspecially since she had no evidence. As far as posting on twitter....that was just a bad idea. There are online forums dedicated to victims of abuse and non profit organizations who help young women in her predicament. She chose the wrong medium through which to seek sympathy.
