It is above the plane of the ecliptic, so that equates to our "north", on this planet. The generally accepted alignment of the Solar System is "north up". SO, top-down views, all the planets orbit counter-clockwise.

It is very, very dim, though. You will need very clear skies, and magnification...and, know where to look to find it.

I'm sure many amateur astronomers are on top of that sort of info.....

The easiest way to prevent this, or any asteroid from being a threat to Earth is for the GOP to declare that it isn't now, nor will it ever be a threat. That should be sufficient to protect us. sarcasm

Well people, some of you have a hard time grasping the reality of outer space, meteorites , asteroids ice chunks, particle streams, solar radiation, radioactive materials, and everything you can imagine is floating out there on a collision course with everything, chaos is the name of the force that governs free floating objects, where do they come from, where are they heading, no one knows, all we can do is hope that when the time comes for some object to strike earth we can be as prepared as we can possibly be.

Imagine what if YU55 really did hit? we would be caught with our pants down, and if you are hoping TPTB to invite you to their bunker and share their resources then we are more naive than stupid.

Earth has been bombarded and struck countless times, ask the dinosaurs to find out the truth, and even then with evidence some doubt it, the planet would survive, heal and cleanse itself, we the surface dwellers wouldn't have the same luck, this planet has has eras of mass extinctions no one can deny that, what do we believe ourselves to be, being so blind trusting a system that has proven time and time again that it does not care about us the common replaceable folk, if a massive ELE would be around the corner they wouldn't tell us, the few that would be in the know how would appear out of nowhere, outside of traditional media disinfo structures.

So instead of bitching and denying lets get more educated, and dare to peek out of our bubbles where everything seems so safe and problems are just an afterthought, the OP never stated the apocalypse, just some date that seemed to be out of proportion, I thank the OP for taking the time and for being there watching and doing something about it, unlike many that all they can afford to do is bitch and bicker.

Life on planet earth hangs near the edge of extinction, we can be wiped out without notice no one would shed a tear for us, remember that over 90% of life that has ever existed on planet earth is now extinct, so what makes us so sure it wont happen to us or our descendants?
Probability is against us, its not how but when, but hey, we are "free" to believe in anything we like, for some coping with the idea of death is too much to handle, while for some, its all we have known, so to each its own, and when the time comes, may we be able to take the best choices, because time will come...

I'm watching the night sky and I see a very bright white-yellow light coming from the sky. It later turns into a falling meteor. As it hits the ground, a massive shockwave is released that causes strong wind and blows me away from where I am standing. I see myself blown by the shockwave, about to collide with a building. The feeling inside the dream is very real.

If it not YU55 it's any of the future objects, even if they can destroy them with missiles, it will not work for larger ones. This is supposed to happen, because I dream things not yet experienced, this is the future.

And, Yes.....I'd expect every Original Poster of these asteroid 2005 YU55 threads fear mongering "It's Gonna Hit Us!!!" threads to either man up and admit they were over-reacting....or, be slapped in irons, and thrown in the dungeon.....

Throughout this entire thread, I have maintained that I Do Not claim my data confirms a collision. I simply attempted an alternative analysis, which turned out to lack account for polar coordinate system.

So my being here on the Oregon coast I can see it around 3:28pm PST if skies are clear with my armature telescope? You know the kind they sell at Discovery stores.

I was hoping to observe tonight but as usual the Welsh cloud fills the sky again!!

BTW, this object will not be visible to the naked eye. It will be the same brightness as a "Magnitude 11 star". For reference, a magnitude 6.5 star is the threshold at which you can see a star, under optimal conditions.
