It seems to me that there is a small PAID minority of ATS members who seem to run around looking for any OWS post to immediately denigrate the efforts of the courageous OWS'sers.

"The "paid disinfo agent" charge again? There goes YOUR credibility, running away just as fast as it can.

Wave bye-bye to it, now...

Afterall, the 1% are not fools and are do certainly feel threatened enough in the media and real life by the unmasking of their misdeeds to part with some pennies to pay the unconscionable to ensure OWS is silenced, made fools of, and threated with contempt, and ensuring fence sitters and unpaid ignorants to join in the bandwagon to be be anti OWS'ser.

Just think of it as the "paid disinfo agents" redistributing some wealth towards themselves. Y'all are all for that, ain't ya?

I want to know where I can sign up for that program - since I'm against OWS on principle, there's no reason I ought not to make a bit of coin while I'm at it. Where's my check?

Too bad the anti-OWS will fail, for they are easily unmasked. They no logic or even sense of realities in their posts. :-P

No logic, you say? How about demonstrating some "logic" for us, then. Go ahead, try... just once. It would be refreshing!

in a bid to remain transparent as it amasses hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations, Occupy Wall Street released its first financial report Monday. The report, compiled by the OWS Finance working group, covers revenues and expenses from September 16 through October 18, during which time the protest raised $454,437.47 in donations.

$454,437.47 in one month is over 5 million a year. OWS is now the one-percent.

Then again... maybe it's Fox News.

Apparently not to this crowd. They have empty pockets and get their coffee free from Starbucks with donations. Or maybe that fancy chef is making all their coffee for them with funds from the soup kitchen.
Should be a wakeup call that socialism is bad for business.

Well aside from realizing I completely messed up my argument and fixing it after the fact. Your post just amuses me as I would love to say that I am being paid to be anti-OWS as I am barely scraping by as it were. However, I can assure you just as there are no "dis-info agents" on ATS there are no "Corporate Lackies" either. I work for the city and I get considerably less money then those in the Private Sector. I am doing the best I can to make sure that I pay the bills and support my family. Things are rough and things slip by from time to time, but all in all its doable with a little less luxuries. I would love to get more money and I hate he economic status of the nation right now.

To be honest if some big corporate Big-Wig called me up and said hey I'll give you 100.00 to write something about OWS I would do it, and if that doesn't merit anything in my favor then oh well. At least I'm honest enough to admit I would do it.

I had to add this. So since you are accusing me of being a paid lackey does that mean that you are a paid sponsor or dis-info agent of the OWS/Socialist America movement? To make those nay-sayers like me look bad?

What did they do before the OWS movement for business? No citizen is REQUIRED to purchase anything from any story unless they so choose.

Maybe Obama should pass a law forcing them to do business with this coffee shop.

He can call it ObamaCoffee.

THEN they'll have some idea of what the REAL "99%" are up against, and where their "protest" ought to be aimed.

He can use it as an outlet to sell his books too. cash, debit, or tent fabric?

And don't forget the camel.

The Camel Nose In The Tent Story-famous anecdotal story my Dad told me once

One cold night, as an Arab sat in his tent, a camel gently thrust his nose under the flap and looked in. "Master," he said, "let me put my nose in your tent. It's cold and stormy out here." "By all means," said the Arab, "and welcome" as he turned over and went to sleep.
A little later the Arab awoke to find that the camel had not only put his nose in the tent but his head and neck also. The camel, who had been turning his head from side to side, said, "I will take but little more room if I place my forelegs within the tent. It is difficult standing out here." "Yes, you may put your forelegs within," said the Arab, moving a little to make room, for the tent was small.
inally, the camel said, "May I not stand wholly inside? I keep the tent open by standing as I do." "Yes, yes," said the Arab. "Come wholly inside. Perhaps it will be better for both of us." So the camel crowded in. The Arab with difficulty in the crowded quarters again went to sleep. When he woke up the next time, he was outside in the cold and the camel had the tent to himself.

Yes, normal average people do not want to go downtown and be harassed by the OWS protestors. The coffee shop should try and target the crowd out front though and sell bongs, sharpies, and posterboard.

deny ignorance indeed. i'll give you the sharpies and poster-board thing, but you had to throw bongs in there didn't you? because they're all hippies right? have you been to one? can you say with first hand account that all the people there are dread lock wearing, tie dye shirt having, sandal wearing, pot smoking hippies? there aren't business people there are there? there aren't educated college graduates and college students there are there? yea it's just a bunch of stupid hippies. i take my hat off to your ingenious.

ETA: Fox news is 'manipulating the masses', correct?
CNN or MSNBC would NEVER do that either, right?
edit on 11/2/2011 by HomerinNC because: (no reason given)

First, who said that the other news media outlets would not do that? I read through the comments before you posted and saw no one making such a claim....

If you are under the impression that we here at ATS are not well aware that all news outlets are bogus and do more than their fair of manipulation, then maybe you out to take a better look around ATS.... WE KNOW THIS!

All news media outlets, do this.... Don't sit there and assume we don't know that, okay? Okay.

Now, that said, I am not a protestors and I am going to guess that none in this thread are either... Their may be supporters of the movement though.

Now, who is screwing this business? Hmm? A good business man would be able to make tons of money off this... You have to market to your main audience. Right now, their main audience is people who are protesting. Market to THEM! Sell things they might like, in addition to coffee!

Not to mention... The complaint is about the police barricades, more than anything.... So, yeah, this is just a case of media manipulation and here you are blaming the protestors for the media, once again, twisting a story to manipulate the masses.

I get that you don't like the OWS movement. I have my issues with it as well. let's do our best though to remain unbiased though, okay? That way we can take a fair look at both sides here and figure out what is really going on.

alright, off I go. Got to go about my daily chores. Maybe I will send a few bucks to the shop out there, and have the return address be something along the lines of "supporters of the OWS movement"

Did you really need to ask who is ruining that person's business? This statement from the article really says it for the OWS thing, and for socialism in general.

"You look down Wall Street now, and it looks like it's under siege. So, people who have to walk down Wall Street don't walk down Wall Street. It used to be a beautiful pedestrian mall, and now it's not -- it's ugly." Read more: www.foxnews.com...

I guess nobody told these OWS people that a lot of business that used to be done on wall street can now be done remotely from home. With Etrade you can even get your trading done while you protest on your smartphone

Firstly I want to say that I agree with you 100% I don't trust any media outlets, but the story is there and I highly doubt they fabricated it. Manipulated it to there advantage sure what reporter doesn't do that. They would do that about how sweet candy is or isn't if it worked to there advantage.

Second how can you market to a group of people that feel they should be able to get everything for free, and they are quite obviously unemployed or... well yea unemployed unless they go to work and come back to protest on a daily basis, because frankly I wouldn't keep them employed if they worked for me. I support there right to protest but I'm not going to just ignore there absence from work while they choose to express that right. If they are trust fund babies then they kind of go against the entire point of there argument (sorry but I'm sure there are a few of them) However, it's hard to market to them. Though to be fair the owner should have thought of a good marketing scheme to the cops that were protecting the barricades

That being said we get to the barricades my final point. Granted the complaints were more towards the barricades then the protestors. With that being said the barricades wouldn't be there if it weren't for the protestors. Yes sure the cops could just go away and leave them to there own devices, but in the real world we both know that will never happen. Also if you went through all the posts you should have noted the one about the Farmer's Market that is a direct result of the OWS movement not the barricades or the cops.

So in closing I do see your points but I do not think they are on the right path as the problem is still ultimiately a result of the OWS movement. The best part is they chose a private park to protest in as the cops can't throw them out, but yet they will raise immortal hell if the company that owns the park tells the City to throw them out. Either way OWS wins in proving they are being harrassed, hindered upon, or stopped by the City.

i need to ask the OP's stance on War. it is absolutely necessary for the point i'm going to try and make.

i've read post's on here saying that supporters of the OWS movement will do anything to voice their opinion. while in some cases this may be true, we are still very much fighting an information war. this is a battle of numbers. this is a battle of those for and those against. this is a battle between suppressive forces and those that do not want to be suppressed. a battle between the enslaved and the slave owners. this is war, and there is no doubt about that, and since this is war there will be casualties. i'd rather have fiscal casualties than physical casualties.

ignorance is the cancer that we are trying to cure. you see i believe we must be just as outspoken as those opposing the movement, and actually more outspoken. your system is broken. maybe we don't have the exact solution just yet, but i promise you we are working towards it. you may be ok with waking up working having some personal time rinsing and repeating, but i'm not. i'm not ok with being in debt the second i try to get on my feet. i'm not ok with not being able to pursue my dreams, because i don't have enough money to do so. i'm not ok with the fact that all my jobs are being shipped off to other countries. i'm not ok that the reason i'm in debt is so that some dude who is already wealthy can get even more wealthy. i'm not ok with the fact that whenever that wealthy man even comes close to debt one of his friends can take MY hard earned money that i need to support my two daughters and give it to his friend. i'm not ok that the people that we elect say one thing and do another. i'm not ok with the fact that we are at war and NOBODY EVEN KNOWS WHY. i'm not OK WITH THE SYSTEM. for you to tell me that i should just lay back and take it is absolutely ludicrous.

you can say what you want about the movement, but i'm all for fighting against injustice. i'm all for standing up for what this amazing country is SUPPOSED to be. you want to live in this great country, but your mad when people practice the exact things this country was built upon? all because it's an inconvenience for you? the system is broken and someone has to fix it. if you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem. DENY IGNORANCE.

back on topic. this is a casualty of war. if they want to survive i suggest they target the OWS as customers. or maybe ask them for help.

This is the double think of today, people can scream about being the 99% and still convince themselves they are the minority.
If you ever find yourself falling into the 99% you have already been brainwashed.

In all honesty who would want to go through a mob crowd just to get a cup of coffee, and by mob I merely mean number of people.

With that said the coffee shop can get more creative, maybe like going outside and offering coffee with an OWS discount to people on the street.
But despite being able to do that you cannot force a company to adapt to a mob scene like that, who knows the owners may be elderly and unable to do so.
Now what will happen in winter? If crowd is still there even less people will go through both a squad of people and snow to get coffee.

At the end of the day what's the solution?
How about protesting at the white house?
Can't drive there? Fine, protest at your representative's office!

If someone is cocky enough to believe that they can lead the country then they deserve all the petitions and protests that come with it...but if someone hasn't, if someone is simply going lawfully about their workaday life, providing food for their families then no-one has a right to disrupt or intimidate them. The OWS is utterly immoral and wrong as it is hitting and hurting ordinary people and making their lives dreadful.

Are you out of your frigging skull???
Casualty of war?
If you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem?

Write me a check for 1/3rd of your yearly income. I'll donte it to the charity of your choice.
THEN, and only then, will you have the stones to write such utter rubbish.
