It would help if moderate, reasonable and understanding Christians at least tried to speak above the din and clamor of the Christian zealots hell-bent on demonizing anyone who disagrees with them..

Why would that help ?

If someone isn't intelligent enough to differentiate between fundamentalist whack-jobs and those who practice their religion reasonably, then I don't see why the onus should be on the moderate believer to spoon-feed and bottle-feed the perpetually indignant ''unbeliever''.

It has nothing to do with my beliefs. It has everything to do with the beliefs of those who are following the holiday, who they believe in, and what is being made of it in the present day and age. I'm well aware it was originally a pagan holiday. As for the site page I linked, it's packed full of interesting information about the holiday, and covers quite a few angles.

If anyone is too afraid of figuring out the truth of the holiday, my condolances.

Halloween or ALL HALLOWS' EVE, was originally a festival of fire for the dead and the powers of darkness. It is the evening of 31 October, the night before the Christian festival of Hallows' or ALL SAINTS DAY.

All Hallows' Day commemorates the saints and martyrs, and was first introduced in the 7th century. Its date was changed from May 13 to November 1 in the following century, probably to make it coincide with and Christianize a pagan festival of the dead. All Souls' Day in the Roman Catholic calendar is November 2. It is marked by prayers for the souls of the dead.

Before the coming of Christianity, the pagan Celts in northern Europe held two great fire festivals each year, Beltane on the eve of May 1 and Samhain on the eve of November 1 to mark the beginning of summer and winter. These dates have no connection with the equinoxes or solstices, or with sowing and reaping, but seem to date from very early times when Celtic society depended heavily on cattle for subsistence. Samhain marked the beginning of winter and was the time when the cattle were brought in from pasture to spend the winter under cover. It was also the beginning of a new year. Because the Celtic day started at sunset, and ran to the following sunset. The festival began on the eve of November 1.

You're right.. there may be a crazy out there.. we should stay indoors, wearing helmets, lock the doors and stare at the wall. Else something bad might happen.

HEHE!

Yep. We sure have trained our people to be a bunch of weak scaredy cats. I swear, long long ago when I was a kid I bet this new breed of nervous nelly parent would have an anxiety attack with some of the things we did! I mean now-a-days I expect to the the latest in toddler fashion being a head to toe bubble wrap ensemble with motion sensors. Gone are the days of " if it aint bleedin' youre fine.. now go back outside and play with the toy bow and arrow" parenting.

I fail to see why it matters. Let's assume 1% of the 10 year olds are closet satanist. Who cares?

No you haven't, and if you have, why didn't you report it to the police?

Yes I have.

When I report things to the police, they usually act like I am a bother. So unless I really really need to, or figure it might have some insurance reason to do so I just don't bother.

Why is it the one day some parents throw caution into the wind for their children, the rest of the year, "they tell their wee ones to not talk to strangers or accept any edibles from them? The honest truth most folks don't know their neighbors names much less their dispositions regarding children so how is it possible a parent can trust this way?

Because most people are fine. Most people aren't crazed maniacs - I say that as someone who has met a number of crazed maniacs. Most people are perfectly nice human beings.

Reminding people of this on an evening of dedicated to sterotypes and terror is actually very amusing.

What about those who are not fine and normal but may look it? Just a thought.

I intend on hiding in a hole and hoping they never find me.

You cannot control everything. I can teach my children to have some sense of security, while not reducing their life to nothing.

It is a hard line to figure out, but worth the effort.

I suggest a good book for you. It is called "The Gift of Fear." I highly suggest it. He has a second one, for parents of children.

I think sane people don't hide in their homes staring at walls just because there are small percentage of the population who are not sane sharing this world with them. There's nothing wrong with being aware everybody don't love or like children (or people for that fact), knocking on a person's door you know nothing about for some edibles is not the wisest move. However if people don't see anything wrong with it then I wish them godspeed.

Then I really hope not a single person believes you. You have no proof, and I have plenty of proof, and can find more online, that no one has ever found tampered candy or apples on Halloween.

I'm sorry that reality has interfered with the truth of the Internet for you.

Perhaps you can tell the Internet to whip up one of the time machines from a patent on it, and go back in time and remove that needle from that apple for me. Thanks.

Yes I agree we can't control everything in our lives. I'm not consumed with fear, I exercise a reasonable amount of caution.

Maybe you can ask God to put a link into this thread for you to that moment in my life.. I've seen on the TV that all the angels in heaven keep an Akashic record. Maybe they'll load it up with a URL for you.

The first person who came in just destroyed your argument and thread and showed how wrong you were... you then attack HER for being defensive??

Are you serious?

You're fear mongering and moaning about a holiday that many people love.

Get a grip.

Why spend our lives worried about ax murderers?

I will never live my life in fear of others. Been there ,done that.

I always tell people, if you never watched the news, read the papers or listened to stories of paranoid friends and coworkers, how does your neighborhood really look?
I bet the answer is just fine.

My inlaws would lock themselves inside the house during the day. Meanwhile the last crime in the neighborhood was a teen stealing a bike 15 years ago.

What I find really funny is people pay outrageous sums of money to live in expensive and safe neighborhoods, but still get alarms, light their houses up at night like christmas, and never let their children outside.
