I tried to find some alternate sources in MSM but couldn't find any (imagine that!)
www.jihadwatch.org...
Apparently some Muslim and female students feel like they are being discriminated against because :

The official allegations claim that CUA, “does not provide space – as other universities do – for the many daily prayers Muslim students must make, forcing them instead to find temporarily empty classrooms where they are often surrounded by Catholic symbols which are incongruous to their religion,” according to a press release on PRLOG.com. This formal complaint also maintains that the new same-sex residence halls are particularly discriminating against female students, which is a new position on the same-sex lawsuit that began last month.

Banzhaf claims that the University is denying Muslim students the same benefits that students of other religions are able to enjoy since there is no formal Muslim association sponsored by Catholic University but the Columbus School of Law has an association for Jewish students “Denying Muslim students the opportunity for form a student group on campus could hardly be based upon any fundamental Catholic doctrine since Georgetown University not only has such a Muslim student group, but also provides its Muslim students with a separate prayer room and even a Muslim chaplain,” said Banzhaf in that press release. “An important reason [that Muslims are gravitating towards Catholic universities] is that the Muslim students, especially those who are observant, feel comfortable and safe at the institution,” said President Garvey in an interview with NPR in December of 2010. “It’s a place where their own faith practices are mirrored by our own. And they feel both welcome and understood at the campus.”

I still don't quite understand this. If they feel uncomfortable (its a Christian college, for petes sake) then why don't they just go to another school? Im sure they could find a secular college to go to where they feel "safe and comfortable". I thought the whole purpose of going to college was to get an education, not to have your every need met because you don't like it. I honestly think that there is more to it than this. there seems to be quite a few of these incidents lawsuits being filed because of "discrimination".
1. U.S. Muslim inmates sue over meal preparation
www.cbsnews.com...

2. Muslims Sue, Alleging Discrimination
articles.latimes.com...

3.Muslims And ACLU Sue FBI Over Mosque Surveillance
www.huffingtonpost.com...

4. Muslim employee sues US Disneyland over headscarf ban
www.telegraph.co.uk...

also, here are some instances of some incidents that will most likely end up with lawsuits:
Hertz fires muslim drivers
www.washingtonpost.com...

Dispute Over Muslim Headgear at Amusement Park Breaks Out Into Large-Scale Altercation
www.foxnews.com...

Also, I believe that there have been these same problems in other countries as well.
It would almost make perfect sense to infiltrate a government and destroy an nation without ever firing a shot.
I realize that not all muslims are the same, just as it is in every religion. However, I just wonder if this could be "passive" form of terrorism by extremists to get more laws changed in their favor and more laws taken away from citizens? I am curious as to what others have to say about this.

i understand where they are coming from, everything about the christian faith makes me uncofortable.. lets face it, its not exactly a nice feeling when you realise so many of your fellow humans have been brainwashed into believing in angry spirits in the sky..
i say good on them! for too long christianity has had a stranglehold on our society and its time something was done about it

They did this as well at Trinity College.

I mean seriously? They need to get a grip. I hope the university doesn't cave in to more PC crapola.

I respect your opinion, but I have to disagree. If they don't want to to see that kind of thing, then why don't they go to another college instead of staying there and complaining? It is, after all, a catholic college. I am sure they were aware of that when they applied to it, and were most likely knew what they would be in store for. Also, your post is kind of ironic, because its one group that worships an "angry spirit in the sky" thats complaining about symbols of "angry spirit in the sky". also, they should be glad they can actually be here to study in a free society. I can only imagine if they tried to use the discrimination card in Islamic countries...

I believe you hit the nail on the head with that observation. Try going to one of their collages in an Arab state and complain as a Christian you have no place to pray, I am fairly certain either a student would kill you or the state for insulting Islam.

oh gimme a break, i find christian symbols uncomfortable as well. but i don't go and whine over it, live and let live. i'm tolerant of all religions, but sometimes these 'muslims' act like little children... then again, don't most religious folks do? hehe

I find a lot of things uncomfortable.

We should ban everything I don't like.

Well s$+#, what is a Muslim doing in a Catholic school anyway?!? You would think they would have thought of that before enrolling. Or is it another attempt to take control over another faith and have them restructuring everything to fit their beliefs? I am so over everyone crying and whining. Whatever happened to tolerance? I would certainly by choice not attend a school or university that I thought would make me uncomfortable. And if I did choose to do so, it was my decision to live with and I could either stay or leave. Hate to say it, but they make a fuss because people don't like them in general, this is why, and it is brought upon themselves.

Their whole purpose is to infiltrate and destroy. They know exactly what they are doing and they are doing it very well. They're destroying us from the inside out. They don't need WMD, virus' etc. They are using our own laws against us. It won't be long now.

How the hell do we know if this is even true...

Sounds like propaganda to me...because it makes no sense for a devout Muslim to go a devout christian school.

Use your heads people..someone is just making this crap up to instill more Muslim hate...geez

So the Muslim students feel uncomfortable being at a Catholic college and want their own space for prayers. Why not just go to a Islamic college then, I'm sure they won't feel uncomfortable there. You never hear of the Buddhist, Hindu's or those that practice Wicca and other faiths complaining, just the Muslim's.

First clue to the Muslim's, it's a Catholic college not an Islamic college. Clue number 2, if you do not like the Catholic symbols go to another college that is not Catholic. Clue number 3, you do not have the right to impose you faith upon another faith.

People need to understand, Islam is intolerant of any other religion and seeks world dominance by any means necessary. If you don't believe it, read the Koran. They are so intolerant that should a Muslim convert to any other faith, it's a death sentence if they do not recant and return to Islam.

Should the college make a concession to these students by providing them with a special Muslim space, the answer is NO. Reason for the no answer is due to the fact it is a CATHOLIC COLLEGE not a Islamic, Buddhist, Hindu or any other faiths college. Am I a Catholic, no and I wouldn't complain about there symbols nor demand a special space either.

thanks for that respect, i also respect your opinion and can understand where your side is coming from.
but to me there is another side to this issue
in the system we live in the best opportunitys and most funding goes to these schools, so it could be that the students want the best future and know that it wont come from other schools.
i can see the irony but these people are not asking for the symbols to be replaced with other symbols are they?

What was their motive to going to a Catholic University in the first place? To Muslimize it?

Heck, the non-Muslims should get together and send an army of shoes on, no hair covering, pork and alcohol smelling women with Muhammed's face dyed on the front of their T-Shirts into the local MOSQUE.

Then the women can sue and cry discrimination when they toss them out.

Opinions are nice but facts are preferred. Which best opportunities and most funding go to these schools?

The fact is that the school is clearly a religiously themed school. If you disagree with the religion, find another school.

I don't hear the same whining about schools that cater to ethnic groups.

I"m thinking Catholics at a Muslim university would find the knife in their neck uncomfortable.

Sounds to me like these guys should go to a school where their education can take center stage instead of their gripes.

Well now lets review the facts as it is written and pointed out in the article:

Catholic University, a university in DC that is run by the Catholic church, and has a strong theology basis and find history of academics.

Students who could go to any university or higher education, chooses to come to this university. Even though they are not under a different religion.

Now they are complaining that they are uncomfortable with being in this particular college and with all of the religious symbols around them.

The problem here is on the part of the students who are attending. This is not a public school system, they do have options to attend any university around the country, and yet they choose to attend a Catholic school, a school which is under the control of the Catholic bishops in the US.
Now they are demanding that this school changes, well the final answer has to be tough, if they do not like it, transfer.

Contrary to previous posters, Muslims and Catholics indeed
have a lot in common.
Muslims see Catholics as people of the book and are
part of the Abraham belief.
I'm surprised that so much ignorance
still exists in that some posters didn't know this.

amazing
op is about the prayer room facilities.
The flaming is about Muslims not wanting to face a idol
statue of Mary when praying. I'm sure that there are
plenty of other empty rooms to facilitate prayer, but then
media wouldn't have their flamed story.

btw
Only if you are actually paying tuition and are a member
of this college, or one of their parents should your opinion count.
