What role does royalty have if they have no power? They're just figureheads for idol worship, right? America has celebrities for idol worship - it doesn't need a royal family.

The reason people look up to, or fear, a king is because of the power they do have. If you strip a King of all his power and only give him the title, people have nothing to fear, therefore they have no obligation to respect the character. Hence a mute discussion....

Don't know your history very well do you? We do have royalty here, they just don't use that word or talk about it. In fact you just named two of the families who belong.

I really do hope your kidding. I have just been reading The Underground History Of The American Education System by John Gatto, and in just a few lines you have proved him to be right on every score. Not really. I don't think many people in the UK look up to the royal family. Some people hate them because the royal family have never done an honest days work in their lives and they basically live in a giant council house on benefits (not my words or thoughts, just saying what I've heard from some people)

Anyways I think if we had a family like Kings and Queens with little power similar to England it would go a long way to bringing unity to the States. The closest we had were the Kennedy's and the country was getting used to them as people to look up too.

An amendment to the Constitution to allow a vote for a King of America in name only would bring us together as a people and give us something to focus our energy on rather than just following Brad and the thing he calls a mate.

The King would recieve no benefits from this title and have absolutely no power but he could be sent around the world as an ambassador of sorts to help smooth any feathers that our string of recent Presidents always seem to ruffle.

well their role is just only to be the CEMENT of the unity of society, presidents do come and go but royalty is just the basement ...
they are always there to remember us that we are one and that it is about OUR society, not the one of the politicians ...
But royals may not have much power ( french revolution you know, too dangerous for us and also for them ) !

Sure let's have a monarchy in the U.S. A return to the dark ages is just what we need. How about an inquisition too?

As for royalty you can have the parasite Queen we have in Canada occupying our country.

What we need is the core of what kings came from, not what they evolved to...

My family has lineage in Spanish Nobility not too long ago, but they did not reach the point of nobility via riches, They fought against all odds, and gained support from the Spaniard people. From Gladiators fighting for their life they found strength to overcome all issues and lead large groups of people toward an ideal. The french invasion of Spain tore apart Catalonia and my family's nobility but this blood is in me and I feel very passionate about the fact that a king is not a king until he earns up most respect of the people, respect can not be bought.

The actions that would make a "king" or leader now days is someone who stands on the side of peace and shows resistance to the powers at be. When the big world falls apart, the ones who stand tall, find honor in their actions and lead people will be the "kings."

I will take an Honorable death over a Cowardly life.
