Just reading that in DagBladet (Norwegian newspaper), it is supposition based on sightings of a man dressed in police uniform who apparently got in a battered volvo 2 mins before the bomb blast. dagbladet story

In the comments on the Yahoo article news.yahoo.com...The majority of the comments are blaming Muslims. The hate that is being spewed is sickening. No one wants seems to want the truth. The want more fuel for their hate. How in the world did we end up in such a place that if someone does something horrible, we can't accept that it could be anyone beside our current focus of hate?

- We can confirm the arrest of the perpetrator of Utøya. We know his identity, and have reason to believe that he has been involved in both incidents, said Sponheim.

Police would not say whether it is a person who is known by the police, or about the person's origin.

The man should sit in the questioning by the Oslo police. Sponheim can not say anything more about his arrest.

The man who has been arrested on Utøya is apparently the same as was seen outside the government building before the explosion. He was wearing a sweater with a police notice, and could emerge as a police officer, police said.

The arrest gives no consequences for police preparedness, type NTB.

- It will absolutely not cause any reduction in response, said Sponheim.

Barrier in Oslo will be maintained until the areas are secured, both in terms of evidence and structural.

The police will come back to about the arrested person may have acted alone or with others.

- The subject is very unclear, says Sponheim.
On the question of whether police expect more incidents, respond Sponheim that the police keep all options open.

Thanks for the article. Wow; one person can do so much damage to a populace. It is sad; however, the Karma train will provide a hell worse than he put those people through.

Maybe because the majority of city bombings has been a result of Jihidists.

I mean, I'm merely trying to stay neutral here - but when did Buddhists or Sikhs last set of a bomb in a city?

Just a thought, not claiming anything or blaming anyone, I'm bright enough to know that real Islam is generally peaceful - BUT many, many recent attacks have been by Muslims.

Don't act so surprised.

It is the way to expect that situations like this have arisen through the actions of Al Qaeda because they have stated an intent to carry out such attacks. However it is utterly disgusting that people immediately blame Muslims without knowing the facts. Additionally the conditioning of the people means such reactions are so likely as to be demoralising. In particular the brush of hate that is wielded against an entire section of the human race because of the actions of a minority of its people is abhorrent. fu ck the terrorists, but fu ck the racist hate preachers too. Most of all fu ck the nutcases of whatever race/religion/thought pattern that carry out these atrocities.

The majority of comments on ATS will blame Israel and Zionists before this is over with.

How did we get here?

Human nature, which I'm sure isn't natural. There isn't another species on this planet that does the things humans do to themselves.

Well, I have to admit I speculated it could might been a homegrown Muslim convert or Libyans.....until I found out there was 2 hours between the attacks and wondered of the possibility one man did both. I'll stick to the latter because it sounds more plausiable.

I have no doubts about that; of course it's a false flag attack done by Mossad/CIA.........(rolls my eyes)

But that won't stop them from trying to pin it on them. Yep, I give it one week and Israel will get the blame.

from Google Translate www.vg.no:

Eyewitness: This is truly amazing. I have never seen anything worse.

Eyewitness: 20-30 killed Utøya

Several of the wounded from Utøya were transported by air ambulance to Ullevål University Hospital. Reuters

UTSTRANDA / LONDON (AP) Those who have survived the shooting desperadoes of AUF-camp on Utøya tells of horrific scenes.

An eyewitness told NRK that there must be at least 20-30 killed. Several messages in other media and social media suggests a similar extent. At the same time there are at least seven dead after bomb attack in Oslo.

Police said ten people so far confirmed dead.

Oslo police said they suspect the same man is behind both attacks. The reason is that they have witnessed information about a man in police uniform in a brown van outside the high-rise.

Run for your life

On the mainland: Grethe Helen Larre and Kristine Melby thought it was someone who had a shooting competition. Photo: Bjørnar Tommelstad

Grethe Helen Larre and Kristine Melby was in a cottage on the mainland, about 300 meters from Utøya when the shooting started.

They told the AP that they initially thought the youngsters had a shooting competition when the horst shots and so many of the youngsters come running down the beach.

Only when they saw the boat that usually carries people to and from the island left drifting they knew something was terribly wrong.

Then they heard the desperate cries for help and saw several young people in bathing suits that hid in the bushes.

The two women embraced several of them eventually made it to safety on the mainland. Many had extensive fire damage and at least two people died on the beach where the two tried to help as best they could.

- This is the only thing I will say now: I am in deep sorrow, and my thoughts are with all of the AUF. I am back and waiting for information, said AUF leader Eskil Pedersen told VG Nett.

- Worst I've seen

A presumed perpetrator is arrested. Eyewitnesses have told the AP that there was a man dressed as a policeman who started to shoot around them. He should have said that he was going to the island in connection with the bomb against the government quarter.

Nordre Buskerud confirms that the man who was arrested, was wearing a police uniform.

- It's the worst I've seen in my entire life. That is the apparently dead people on the beach. The scenes are the same in other places on the island. Several people swam to another island where they sit together, says freelance photographer Vegard M. Aas to the AP, which was one of the first journalists on the spot.

The person who pretended to be a police officer should have spoken Norwegian and have been blonde. Police sources said the AP that the arrested weapon Desperado is transported to London and sitting in the interrogation.

The specially trained emergency squad to the Oslo police moved by helicopter and can be those who gained control of the perpetrator.

- Everyone is in shock

It hangs more helicopters from the military over Utøya, according to VG Nett reporter Thomas Rune Ege is on site. Divers and SeaKing helicopters searching for people in the water as more people swam to save their own lives.

The police suspect that there are explosives on the AUF-camp on the island, and the military bomb group working on it.

- We have been saved. Everyone is in shock, type Nicoline Bjerge Schie SMS to NTB. She hid from the perpetrator of a crack in the mountain with some friends.

STRONG IMPRESSION: There are several apparent dead people along the beaches of Utøya. It is not clear whether they are dead. Many are also strongly cooled after having swum in the water. The picture is censored by the AP. Photo: VEGARD M. AAS / PRESSE30.NO

Many thanks for that.

This has to be the worst and saddest day for Norway as far back as I can remember. There are just no words to describe what these families are going through right now and to all the victims and their families in both attacks.

Shame they don't have the death penalty. This nutter does'nt deserve to breathe; he's not human.

Almost a thread in itself: How many other police/special forces would have shot to wound and bring him to justice? I often see stories from around the world and think, why have the police executed someone that in 90% of the cases from what I see reported could have been wounded and apprehended? (Could it be a religious thing that death results in judgement? As a non believer I just see death as the easy way out, in terms of it being the definitive end of any conciousness)

This was not your typical terrorist attack. They usually target the civilian population, not a government building.

Someone was after the labour party in general or the PM specifically. My guess would be because of our lax immigration policy (downtown Oslo is rather unsafe at night).
