Norway does not have a president, they are a constitutional monarchy where the King (Harold V) is a largely ceremonial head of state while Prime Minister Jens Stotlenberg is the head of government.

While I havent heard reports of shooting in Oslo, it IS confirmed that there is at least one gunman dressed as a police officer opening fire at a day care camp. This is no coincidence, this is a coordinated terrorist attack and I can only hope there are no further attacks.

BBC "expert" saying it might be Libya or Gadaffi. He's been seriously putting that out there for the last 5 minutes!

I'm also thinking Libyan; this is just too well planned to hit as many targets as possible.

It just seems a bit too good, according to the reports we're hearing. I'm not sure a bunch of pissed of uber-Muslims could throw something like this together in the space of a week.

It does sound on face value, from what we're hearing, that it's well-thought out and done by clever people

Since the beginning of the intervention, the initial coalition of Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, Norway, Qatar, Spain, UK and US has expanded to 17 states,

en.wikipedia.org...

Gaddafi gave his warning a couple of weeks ago that he was not to sit back against the invasion. If it is related then expect a few other nations to start going up as well. If you are going to play with fire...

It is a stupid, dumb ass situation all round.

Agreed, the bombings maybe but not the shootings with the police uniforms. I mean you can't exactly go walking into a store and say "I want a police uniform". This was something that had been in the works for awhile.

Unconfirmed report Police have just captured a terrorist on the island; so we'll see if this is homegrown or not.

The attack comes days after Norwegian prosecutors filed a terrorism charge against Mullah Krekar, founder of the Kurdish Islamist group Ansar al-Islam, who is accused of threatening a former minister, Erna Solberg, with death.

"Norway will pay a heavy price for my death," he said. "If, for example, Erna Solberg deports me and I die as a result, she will suffer the same fate."

It is not clear whether Friday's attack is related to the threat.

Norway has also previosuly received threats from al-Qaeda over its involvement in combat operations in Afghanistan.

In another thread on ATS a Norwegian member has said that local news are reporting the terrorist was tall, blonde and blue eyed.. Not that he couldn't be a Muslim but a bit odd if he is

Just opinion here but the fact they targeted one party and involving the future political hopefuls of that party it could be internally breed terrorism rather than some external agenda from the likes of Libya or Muslim extremists

On another note I think it's rather cheap, offensive and typical of the American government to be the first country in the world to condemn the attack and offer their support.

I don't know if that grates anyone else the wrong way but if this is Muslim extremists attacking Norway for their involvement in Afghanistan then America has no bloody right to condemn anything as they're indirectly a cause in such a scenario.

Of course, I guess it just doesn't strike me as some half-arsed Al Qaeda like group. If it was THAT easy then we'd see attacks like this every week in Europe
