Got to call foul on this one.

Someone made a mistake, they rectified it....no big deal really, not when you consider all the other crap going on in the world.

Well, I guess we shouldn't let facts get in the way of sensationalistic drivel.

Respectfully Intrepid, If it wasn't the muslims, what cultural group (demographics aside), in your humble opinion, do you think would be sensitive to a woman breast feeding, or a woman that was 'uncovered'? Who could it possibly be? Who fits the profile? Who's cultural sensitivities was this staffer assuming she may have been protecting? If the story is true of course!

IRM

T'is why I put that in the OP. They did rectify the situation, only AFTER she complained. The fact that they stoppedher in the first place should be the main focus of the story. I don't know of anywhere in the western world where brestfeeding is taboo.

Is there still a place like that?

Strict Christians for one. As an aside I don't like women BF in public. I know it's natural. I know it's the law but that doesn't mean I have to like it and I don't.

"They" didn't stop her. An employee that didn't understand the situation did. "They" fixed the problem after "They" became aware of it. Better?

It just blows my mind that anyone can be offended at a mother breastfeeding her baby. No matter where you're from on the planet.

usually those people who get aroused by a strand of hair and order their ladies to wear headscarves are offended. :/

No because they wouldn't have become aware of the situation. You can't fix a problem unless you know about it. That's why ATS has a Complaints function.

Muslim sensibilities aside, there are others in our society who also dont like to see women breast feeding.(we are still a prudish country in many ways, despite what page 3 of The Sun might tell you). Many women still feel uncomfortable doing it in public, which I find is a real shame, it's an example of how far we have removed ourselves from what we truly are.

Obviously women should not change what is a vital element in bringing up a healthy child and should feel comfortable about breast feeding in public. If someone finds offense, it is their problem. Breast feeding is not going to go away in the forseeable future so people will have to start to become more tolerant.

So it was a problem? I wonder. . . . how many other women suffered under this "misconception" until just one complained?
A problem needs to be addressed. Whether it is an inorant receptionist, a silent policy, or fear of cultural backlash, ANY problem with even the hint of cultural undertones should be discussed, debated.

Of course, that's just a humble opine, and why I started a thread.

Apologies for the use of Wiki.

Why don't you apologize for using the POS Daily Mail?

Did you read the piece yourself?

So many in the thread jump on the anti-Muslim bandwagon! Don't you realize that you just create more sympathy for Muslims with hit pieces like this? Or are you just hoping that no one else reads the article?

It could be anyone's. It could be American men. The fact that the Daily Mail ASSumed Muslims in their title and you all sucked it up like bloodthirsty bigots shows the TRUE 'sensitivities' around here.

In doing some reading for this thread, I was surprised at how many people and places still find it uncomfortable. People need to grow up.

It is not so much the sneezing, or the luncheoning babies, that offends the muslims. It is the fact that it is a non-muslim sneezing, and non-muslim babies eating which is offensive. They will continue to be offended until Sharia is implemented.

I'm as grown as you get. Old fart and all. Yes, it does make me uncomfortable. That is probably the single most intimate experience that there is. Feeding your kid from your own body. I don't want to be a participant in others intimate moments any more than I would want a stranger to be a part of mine. You don't hear me crying for it to be abolished though.

BH, why are you assuming it wasn't muslim? They must have had a reason why they titled the article that way. Could it be the large muslim population in that area? I offered a demographic source as well.

As quick as "we" are to jump on the islamic bandwagon *cough*, some are equally "quick" to rush to their defense.
