I'd love to see him just walk himself on out of
Presidency and our country.

That 15% income tax sounds pretty good BUT what if i pour ALL of my money
into Triple Tax Free Municipal Bonds and just live off the interest?

I could buy them at T Rowe Price.

Did i just find a loop hole?

That's an old trick.
Accuse the accuser.
Very boring. Nice try Harry.

-----------------
We can all see very clearly who the adolescent is in the White House.

This is why you guys are so funny. Accuse the accuser is exactly what Cantor did. How are you all falling for this?

Cantor bragged about storming out. Then he calls out the president for what he claims was "storming out." Obama's camp denies he stormed out.

Get it? We all know Cantor stormed out because he bragged about it. Now he is accusing Obama of doing and you guys are lapping it all up. Hate Obama for the right reasons, not the fake ones being fed to you.

Well, if you would have watched Hannity last night you would have seen the - truth -.

I've liked most of what you've said, but are you being sarcastic with the above statement?

Hannity and truth pretty much don't go together...ever.

The only thing i've learned from this thread. Is that people who like bush and love the GOP actually know how to use a computer and get hooked up to the internet. Im truly amazed star for you all.
The thing that really gets to me is the people who think that not raising the debt ceiling is a option.

When will people learn this whole right/left party drama is meant to keep people focused on one subject while forgetting whats really going on. This is your political system,100s of years old. You should be discussing how to get out of this crisis instead the system has been reduced to some mudslinging and left/right rhetoric. Its pathetic and quite embarrassing to the nation.

Well we cannot default on our obligations because guess what, if we default and our AAA rating is lowered then interest goes up and that 14 trillion dollar interest payment goes up as well putting more strain on the economy. Whatever is decided our bills needs to get paid and our interest levels stay low...

I don't think there is any reason to worry about losing our AAA rating. That's like "crying over spilled milk" at this point. Just because Moody's gives us a AAA doesn't mean everyone does.

In April, Weiss Ratings gave the U.S. sovereign debt rating a 'C'.

While Moody's is placing the U.S. AAA rating on review for a downgrade, so is Weiss, to C-. One notch above junk status.

The default is coming, either outright or by devaluing our dollar to the point we are effectively paying our debts at pennies on the dollar. So it's either screw you we aren't paying, or we will pay you with bellybutton lint and Big Mac wrappers.

Don't shoot the messenger.
Hannity got the truth from Marketwatch and the Bipartisan Policy Center.

I don't have much economic background, so please educate me as I'm quite lost here:
What does Obama want about the debt ceiling and what does Cantor want (where is the disagreement)?
I tried searching over the news but there is very little info on the actual disagreement.

"The filthy rich don't need all that money. Heck, 5% of the people control 80% of the assets in this country."

That is exactly why things are broke now.. The distance between the normal working person who keeps this country going and some prick CEO is just a joke.. What i really dont get is why and how they get poor people to buy into the propaganda. Yeah, let me pay that for you sir. You need a shoe shine while we are at it? Some people..

I've got to disagree. It's the "prick" CEO's that own the companies that employ the normal working person that keep this country going.

Did you mean to say the indian and chinese country going with the rampant outsourcing by corporations?

Ya, I think you did.

Corporate entities have abandoned America almost a decade ago because they find paying someone 2 bucks a day and no bennies to be fantastic and rewarding.

And yet people still consume the products/services that are outsourced don't they? While people demand cheaper cheaper cheaper products and services it will take a lot for this trend to change.

Actually I agree with Reid.....and Cantor. Remove them all from the room, and put some people in there that will make decisions, and debate, and legislate, and govern!

I will gladly replace any one of them! If someone walks out of the room again, lock them out.

How about the people issue a resolution, we could call for a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution. We could demand the Debt Ceiling never be raised again without a popular vote. We could demand the entire Congress be accountable to their own laws, SS, Medicare, and loot their retirement fund for the good of the people!

Here is my solution:
1. Republicans need to give up the fight on extending the tax breaks. The Dems win that one.
2. Dems have already agreed to give up the fight on budget cuts, but it needs to be even deeper, we need to scale back government similar to the Ron Paul "Snow Day" plan.
3. We need a Constitutional Balanced Budget amendment.
4. We need a guarantee that not only will the debt ceiling stay where it is, but it will be incrementally lowered over the next several years. We need a "hard ceiling" for tough economic times, and it should be 75% of the GDP, and we need a "soft ceiling" for normal budgetary years that is more like 30-50% of the GDP. Anytime the debt breaks the soft ceiling, it automatically generates an emergency session for Congress, and we immediately take actions to lower it below that "soft ceiling" or acknowledge that the economy is waning and we need to designate an emergency to allow the debt to approach the hard ceiling.
5. We need a "fair tax" law. My personal recommendation is 15% income tax on all income above $20k per adult and $10k per child. With that system, a family of 4 woule not pay any tax on the first $60k, and everyone would pay the same 15% after that. We could shrink the IRS dramatically, and eliminate the need for expensive tax attorneys and tax lawyers. We would incentivize the wealthiest people to pay their tax, because it would be more affordable than paying exorbitant fees to fight the tax. We would incentivize new business growth, because the fear of complicated tax reprisals and penalties would be gone.

There you have it. I also have a thread on my profile about my plans for solving the immigration issues.

This all started as a little bit of a rant and a joke, but I am quickly convincing myself that we actually need people like me and the other ATSers instead of people like Cantor, Obama, and Reid.

All you have to do is listen to the canned press conferences made by Obama.
------------
Raise taxes on the evil, rotten, no good millionaires and billionaires who fly around
in big beautiful - corporate jets -.

Also give Obama a clean debt ceiling increase to $18 Trillion so he fund all
of his glorious - sacred cows - and grow the U.S. Government even larger!
--------------
Cantor is the adult at the table who says it is a - bad - idea to raise taxes during a
recession.
Eric Cantor also says we should reduce the size of the U.S. Government.
-------------
Which path do you think we should take?

That statement about calling his bluff is nothing. Obama is a spineless wimp who’s afraid of white people. He is the most cowardly president in history who either doesn’t believe in nothing or have the guts to fight for anything.

Or you can look at the reality of what is actually being discussed.

Obama wants to do away with the Bush Tax cuts and loopholes that helped get us into this mess. None of it created any jobs like it was promised, it just helped get us deeper in debt.

Cantor wants to cut aid to the poor, sick, and elderly.

Pretty easy when you frame it correctly.

Funny, he tries to tax the rich more and Republicans refuse stating "it will stall growth" yet the poor are taxed to death and cant be taxed any more without feeling like we are being robbed.
Why the republicans won't play ball is beyond me, Obama is using common sense and the Republicans are protecting their pockets.

Yes. You framed it alright.
Still hiding behind victims i see.

-----------------
Going after the corporate jets was a big joke.
It's a drop in the bucket.
It's hard to take anything he says seriously.
He doesn't know what he is doing.
Throwing hissy fits and walking away from the table doesn't help either.
----------
The best thing Obama could do is resign and hand it over to Joe Biden.
Give Joe a chance.

This is all for show. Showboating until the final moments. Sitting around tables smiling on camera to show the nation they are actually working. This seems to not be about Reps or Dems. They are all filthy rich Reps and filthy rich Dems with their own out of touch with reality agendas. Basically just working for their own party not the American people. In the end after their squabbling the working class will be the ones in trouble, once again. Why would they care if the US defaults? They have enough money to last many lifetimes and free healthcare. They will be off on their island vacation this winter and the working class will be huddled around their last incandescent light bulbs trying to stay warm. Someone mentioned the movie Idiocracy and its coming to that. Stop making America look so bad.

It should be obvious that the Secular Socialist intent is to have the whole system deteriorate where it no longer matters whether Obama is impeached or not reelected. By the time they are through the entire situation will be unsalvageable. All the posturing is nothing more than a tragic comedy for the "useful idiots".

They raised the debt ceiling ten times under Bush. This is nothing more than politics and feeding off of the stupidity of the public.
