Well we cannot default on our obligations because guess what, if we default and our AAA rating is lowered then interest goes up and that 14 trillion dollar interest payment goes up as well putting more strain on the economy. Whatever is decided our bills needs to get paid and our interest levels stay low...
In April, Weiss Ratings gave the U.S. sovereign debt rating a 'C'.

I've liked most of what you've said, but are you being sarcastic with the above statement?
Hannity and truth pretty much don't go together...ever.

"The filthy rich don't need all that money. Heck, 5% of the people control 80% of the assets in this country."
That is exactly why things are broke now.. The distance between the normal working person who keeps this country going and some prick CEO is just a joke.. What i really dont get is why and how they get poor people to buy into the propaganda. Yeah, let me pay that for you sir. You need a shoe shine while we are at it? Some people..
I've got to disagree. It's the "prick" CEO's that own the companies that employ the normal working person that keep this country going.
Did you mean to say the indian and chinese country going with the rampant outsourcing by corporations?
Ya, I think you did.
Corporate entities have abandoned America almost a decade ago because they find paying someone 2 bucks a day and no bennies to be fantastic and rewarding.

Actually I agree with Reid.....and Cantor. Remove them all from the room, and put some people in there that will make decisions, and debate, and legislate, and govern!
I will gladly replace any one of them! If someone walks out of the room again, lock them out.
How about the people issue a resolution, we could call for a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution. We could demand the Debt Ceiling never be raised again without a popular vote. We could demand the entire Congress be accountable to their own laws, SS, Medicare, and loot their retirement fund for the good of the people!
Here is my solution:
1. Republicans need to give up the fight on extending the tax breaks. The Dems win that one.
2. Dems have already agreed to give up the fight on budget cuts, but it needs to be even deeper, we need to scale back government similar to the Ron Paul "Snow Day" plan.
3. We need a Constitutional Balanced Budget amendment.
4. We need a guarantee that not only will the debt ceiling stay where it is, but it will be incrementally lowered over the next several years. We need a "hard ceiling" for tough economic times, and it should be 75% of the GDP, and we need a "soft ceiling" for normal budgetary years that is more like 30-50% of the GDP. Anytime the debt breaks the soft ceiling, it automatically generates an emergency session for Congress, and we immediately take actions to lower it below that "soft ceiling" or acknowledge that the economy is waning and we need to designate an emergency to allow the debt to approach the hard ceiling.
5. We need a "fair tax" law. My personal recommendation is 15% income tax on all income above $20k per adult and $10k per child. With that system, a family of 4 woule not pay any tax on the first $60k, and everyone would pay the same 15% after that. We could shrink the IRS dramatically, and eliminate the need for expensive tax attorneys and tax lawyers. We would incentivize the wealthiest people to pay their tax, because it would be more affordable than paying exorbitant fees to fight the tax. We would incentivize new business growth, because the fear of complicated tax reprisals and penalties would be gone.
There you have it. I also have a thread on my profile about my plans for solving the immigration issues.
This all started as a little bit of a rant and a joke, but I am quickly convincing myself that we actually need people like me and the other ATSers instead of people like Cantor, Obama, and Reid.

I don't have much economic background, so please educate me as I'm quite lost here:
What does Obama want about the debt ceiling and what does Cantor want (where is the disagreement)?
I tried searching over the news but there is very little info on the actual disagreement.

Or you can look at the reality of what is actually being discussed.
Obama wants to do away with the Bush Tax cuts and loopholes that helped get us into this mess. None of it created any jobs like it was promised, it just helped get us deeper in debt.
Cantor wants to cut aid to the poor, sick, and elderly.
Pretty easy when you frame it correctly.
