A friend and co-worker of mine committed suicide a few days ago. He was found last night.
No one saw it coming.

He didn't show any of the signs you are supposed to look out for. Things seemed to be going well for him. He was a good dude, a hard worker, and he was well liked by everyone.

This is the first person I have known who has killed their self. I have been involved in incidents before where people have tried to commit suicide, but I didn't really know any of them. So I am a little thrown off here.

I have no patience or sympathy for people who try or succeed in killing themselves. I think it is stupid and the easy way out, it is also not fair to your friends and family.

I think I should be upset about this because he was a friend of mine, but I'm not......So I don't know.

Your thoughts and opinions are welcome.

Please research "Manic Depression" - more commonly known as "Bipolar" and pay specific attention to "Bipolar II"

I'm sorry for your loss ♥

I disagree with the lack of sympathy. Unless you've walked in someones' shoes, you don't completely understand their circumstances or reasoning.

To answer your question however, people kill themselves for various reasons. There is no universal answer. Some kill themselves because they've lost hope. Some kill themselves because of grief. Throw mental illness in the mix (something you also probably don't know much about), and there are legitimate reasons. There isn't just one answer to your question.

That "easy way out" stuff is bull#. People don't just kill themselves at the first sign of depression. Its something that they fight year after year before finally deciding there isn't any reason to continue living a life like that.

Sorry to here the news, imho i believe its the right of every individual to end ONE'S OWN LIFE. For whatever reason not apparent to family and friends these people are not happy with life.

i understand for some of you, this may be hard to understand. But why would you want your friend or anyone for that matter, who trully isnt happy with life anymore; to go on living? These people are in immense pain real or imagined. I believe its their rights as a human being.

I applaud you - I think most people fail to realize how difficult it is to overcome the survival instinct.

Its not easy.

People who do succeed have a lot of history whether or not anyone is aware of it - or they succeed accidentally (for the same reason) during a cry for help.

In this life you either live in a mindstate of heaven or hell thats what those terms mean a mindstate there is no heaven or hell for after death therefor if one is living in a state of hell one would be thinking thoughts of suicide & would want to end ones life due to suffering where as living in this world today there is no mercy.

by your attitude i can tell you have no empathy what so ever. When you get to the point where you go out and by a gun and some bullets. You are hopeless and very badly depressed and probably have some other undiagnosed mental condition. I myself have been in that place and i can tell you its not just about taking the easy way out. You don't see any other way out you don't see life getting better there is no light at the end of the tunnel. You've thought it out and decided its the only way and most likely you've convinced yourself that the world would be better off
And theres nothing easy about it NOTHING

I am sorry for your loss.

Often times mental illness is impossible for the mentally healthy to understand.

The pain that your friend was feeling could have been unimaginable to anyone that hasn't experienced it.

Many times when people attempt suicide they don't really want to die, they are reaching for help. Those that actually do it were ready to go.

Try to remember that he was suffering and he decided to end that suffering. It would of been much better if he sought help but it was his decision to make.

I'm a manic depressive and no days it's called bi-polar. I was in a very bad state, things just were so bad, I almost took my life. I've since found ways of dealing with things and I'm not even on medication these days. I've been down that road and it's something you never want to face! It may seem like an easy way out but it's a means to an end to hurt and other things.

What's easy about it? I've thought about it, and wanted to when I was 7. You dont have to be sad about it, but don't say they took the easy way out.

I think cutting is much different though, as I've never cut, but I've thought about suicide

It's like a huge grain scale...and when the desire to live is outweighed by the desire not to...well the I think the scale falls to the side of not wanting to live anymore...things go down hill from there.

Depression...whatever you want to call it makes even the everyday life tasks not worth it anymore and things become pointless...life becomes pointless...even existence seems null and void.

People kill themselves because they don't want to live anymore...simple explanation. So to think about how selfish it is for someone to take their own life and how it hurts the family and friends...well that line of thinking is just selfish too.

I am sorry for the loss...it is a tragedy when someone does not weigh life more than death...it is truly sad.

Were you really his/her friend?

You're not upset?

Do you feel anything at all?

I agree, I don't understand their circumstances or reasoning, But this is just my viewpoint. While mental illness is possible it is highly unlikely, we all know each other pretty well and spend alot of time together. While I am not a psychologist I am familiar with some forms mental illness. Another one of my co-workers was just recently committed to the hospital for psychological issues.

Pulling a trigger is very easy, Addressing and fixing problems is not so easy sometimes.

I will look into Bipolar II but as I said it is unlikely to not have been noticed.

Kinda seems pointless in the long run because we are all going to die anyhow.

Still, It's sad when someone die's, And suicide is so taboo in our society, that makes it even worse.

Sorry for your loss
