Looks like the cop that took the big beating wasn't even the one doing the hitting. He even looked like he was telling the others to knock it off. The one's that were hitting the guy got were the first ones running away.

Sad all around.

Odds are there would've been a rumble without cops at such an event anyway.

Violence begets violence. I'd rather have seen the cops subdued and not beaten.

Im not sure i fully understand this.

I see a man taken down, and then they try and restrain him. Then one of the arresting cops throws a few punches. Perhaps he was resisting arrest? Spitting in the cops face? Perhaps he was biting a cop.

I cant say i agree or disagree with this until more is found out.

Why are people so eager to see police officers hurt or injured? They work a nasty, dirty job for very low wages.

I'm really against violence, but your post struck a cord deep within me..............read my signature.

I really wish there was a way to work this type of tyranny out minus violence, but I don't know. At this point again, I am against violence but where does it begin and where does it stop?

Hi, I just read through the first couple of pages of the post, but what I can tell you is:

This was very probably in Portugal (ads for Sumol, seldom sold outside of Portugal, no comments to the contrary from the speaker, the fact that PT people do react when faced with this kind of grrrrr(censored) in the streets)

One of the teams was Benfica.

According to the speaker, after a while, the football players intervened to stop the lynching.

Also according to the speaker, no arrests were made.

Oh, and I think most of you did notice, but for those who didn't, these guys were not cops, they were security, from a company called Protectas (probably giving them even less justification in using violent force).

Also, my personal opinion is that Portuguese people have been very close to a breaking point for quite a while, not gonna go on the details though, that would deserve another thread.

That is just it. In the grand scheme of things this type of behavior needs to be revolted against. We have to stand up for what is right and sometimes that means things get nasty. There is just no "proper" or shall i say "politically correct" way to deal with this. Everything is not simply black and white.

GROW UP? Oh really?

Hmm see we don't wear badges nor is our entire JOB SUPPOSED TO BE to PROTECT AND SERVE....

Why aren't you upset over the overzealous beating the cop hands down BEFORE they get hit back?

Identifying with your captors much? I hereby dub thee sir Stockholm

I am speaking against the endorsement of violence by both sides. Yes, police brutality is wrong, but retaliation like this is just as disgraceful. Should we really stoop down to their level? No. We should demand justice and trial. That's what we would expect from them.

Way to understand my message.

Its not that Im glad to see an officer gettin beaten, being that they're human just like us its the point that they use ridiculous amounts of force when its not always nessacary that makes me feel like maybe they need a taste of their own medicine.

Feeling like they need a "taste of their own medicine" is an endorsement of violence. This is what I find disgraceful.

You can definitely tell it wasn't in the US. Anybody know where this occured. Here they would call out the SWAT Team and probably the National Guaard.

Ok, this is F'ed up on both sides. The cops were a bit excessive. But to be honest, he was resisting.

If you're being honest, then you're blind. The runner is definitely not "resisting," unless trying to breath while being sat on by 600 pounds of cops is resisting.

But at (.31) the runner does jump up like a jack-rabbit, scoop up his banner, and make a hasty exit, stage left.

I never understood why they chase people who run out into sporting events.

Why not let them run around for a few? Eventually the crowd will get tired of it, he would leave on his own and the game will continue. No harm done and no "event" like this.

People are too uptight!

No Kidding..not like a huge crime is taking place.

No but don't you think eventually people would take that for a "its ok to run around on the field" then more and more would and eventually no sport would ever get played...thats the way things work.

True enough...but maybe a whopping fine would be better. At any rate..they had the guy down..absolutely no need for the cop to be ramming his baton into the guys head..hell..even the other cop knew it was excessive force, and held his hand up to him.

I'm sure there are quite a few police officers ,who themselves are "sickened" by what they see their fellow police officers get away with. Just so sad that it was the one who was trying to put a stop to the dick head cop, that got the brunt of the retaliation.

Does anyone know what happened after this was all over?

please exchange security officer for police .in this post (chuckles)

I've seen much the same with police though, and I know they aren't all like that.

And the thing about this is the cops are of a mentality that doesn't care that in 1963 there was a coupe de tat.
A socialist take over that can't come out of the closet because they fear the american people will over run D.C.
That's why there has been a escalation of lies deceipt murder and all around corruption since the day we lost
one of our most valued human beings. I don't think the man even needs an intro. I might point out that niether did
Led Zeppelin as a side note.

So acting like animals as well MUST be the answer. We will never advance or deserve any better when we act like animals and use violence as a tool.

Cheer on the mob for beating the police. You should be ashamed of yourselves if you consider yourself to be an evolved citizen.

I think this happened in 2004, in Switzerland.

The guy that entered the field had a sign saying that the family was supporting the Portuguese referee, and the guys that restrained and hit him were from a private security company, not the police.

They weren't even cops.... denying ignorance at it's finest

If no one had run out there..that guy would still have gotten more shots to the head..Its obvious that the first few out there were people who CARED about this dude, and the rest of the crowd followed, because they were outraged as well.

All I can say to you Demoncreeper,is let me know how you feel..if one of your family members is under unnessecary police/security brutaliy such as this, and you are fearing that the remainder of their life might be lived with serious brain injuries??

Would you be dissapointed in the ones who intervened? would you chastise them? Would you wag your finger in there face, and tell them they should be ashamed of themselves??

I APPLAUD these men who first ran down there, and I tell you...I would LOVE to have people like that watching my back. They are friggin heroes in my eyes.

We should start a thread containing portraits of victims of excessive force.

I remember meeting John T. Williams, a street artist, when I visited Pike Street Market in Seattle. He always carried a knife with him and a piece of wood. - Seattle Times

Animals?? What would you do if that was your relative, brother or sister getting beat on. You would most likely stand up to them....and you probably wouldn't pull out your bible to refer to the 10 commandments. They are sticking up for a fellow citizen who may have done something a little wrong, but definately nothing violent or harmful. Job well done.
