Perhaps this will be the nail in the coffin for many biblical doom-believers, OP. Some good can come out this... maybe people will learn to think for themselves more. Maybe they'll learn to follow their own scripture rather than the words of one wrong man.

Well to give an update, i heard from the crews that worked overnight had 3 more patients with panic/anxiety attacks. It looks like its going to continue like this today and into tonight. About four more hours and my shift starts. Depending on how busy it is my upadates may be later this evening or after midnight when my shift is over. I give you high regards for doing your job,to the best of your ability ,through some very trying times. I'm sure it must be difficult to not get upset with these people, for being blind to a false prophet, but please try and be understanding and patient,with those having panic attcks. (I'm sure your people are doing your best to ease their fears,and make them realize in a gentle way they have been deceived)

That why I really think its important to not poke fun at the ones who have been mislead. If anything they need our understanding, and love...and mocking them ,and making fun of them will not help at all.

I feel sorry for anyone who has been so misled and terrified, they feel the need to kill themselves rather than to face what (they believe) is coming. We all have gullible moments, and some are just not born so bright as others, but the man who has caused this is just plain criminal. If he really thought the end was here, he should prepare himself not take the life savings/homes/businesses/retirement from desperate people. Sick.

I am so thankful, not just today, but in general for all those in emergency services. This is not an easy job, and definitely not for the average Joe. I think most people have no idea what it is like to experience one trauma, let alone daily traumas. I know that I could not. It would just break my heart everyday.

I'm glad that you started this thread, because I would really like to know what's going on "out there" today. And just thank you, thank you, thank you so much for what you do each day!

I think you should make fun of stupid people, then they might be forced to educate themselves...unfortunately you can't fix stupid. Take note I'm not talking about people with learning disabilities, I'm talking about stupid people, and by stupid I mean people that believe in the rapture.

You really think making fun of stupid people is going to make them smarter, or do you think that being stupid is just forever.

I for one think you can make a stupid person realize they have been stupid,just by letting the natural consequences follow. To belittle people that might be gullible and stupid ,in your eyes, is just mean and counterproductive to me.

You sound like the type who might actually enjoy belittling 'stupid" people, and would not take it seriously if any of them harmed them selves because of attitudes like yours.

I'll take stupid, over mean and egotistical anyday of the week.

There was a really big full moon the other night.

I use to be in nursing and when there is a full moon we always got the really weirdiest cases.........I mean really strange.

I do not envy your job, it's very hard, I quit nursing when I had a four year old little girl pass away on me. She was due to go home the next day, in remission from leukemia. We were getting our little ones ready for bed and she said she felt funny and would I please just rock her for a few minutes.

She passed very quickly in my arms. We coded her to no avail, she was gone.

That was over 40 years ago.

After the code, I reported to the head nurse and simply left...........................I could not take emotionally losing a baby that never would experience her first kiss, prom night, walking down the aisle in a beautiful wedding dress, the birth of her first baby, buying her first house, becoming a grandmother.

It was right around this time, mid May I believe that she passed.

I went to her funeral and her parents told me they were grateful I was the one with her when she passed because I cared.

They gave me a boquet of sunflowers and mixed flowers, the biggest boquet there saying they knew she would want me to have these.

I still have one of the flowers crushed in a book from this boquet.

Some experiences leave a scar upon your heart and are meant to teach you how precious life is.

Be safe, you have a hard job and if it gets to be too much for you find something to do that makes you happy if you are not happy now.

Our time here on this third rock from the sun is too short to not live each day with laughter, joy and hope.

Post like yours are the very reason I find myself coming to ATS less and less.

The medical profession is very very emotionally grueling.

Day in and day out you witness tradegy, much of it is senseless and sad.

This person was not asking for "attention" as much as understanding and emotional support at a very upsetting time.

You couldn't just say something nice, a word of encourgement?

ATS is now more and more frequent by very cruel, heartless and non empathetic people. Not all of you, but enough that I am finding other sites that have a much more nicer crowd.

As stated in my previous post, while I was in the top 2% of my nursing class - I couldn't cut it emotionally. If you have never held a dying baby in your arms, or a young person, senselessly shot, internally bleeding to death before they could get him into surgery - you have no idea how emotionally draining this type of job can be.

In my opinion, you need to try to be a little more kind, a little more understanding and not so flippant and arrogant.

This person was simply reaching out for a word of encouragement.

I know, I've been there.

You really need to read Gabby's advice a couple times and try to develope some kindness and empathy.

While I am not religious and do not believe 'the end is near" when someone is frightened, couldn't you just like a parent would when a child screams outloud at night with a nightmare, try to calm them and reassure them rather than poke fun at them?

If everyone just tried for one day, one week to be nice, kind and thoughtful................what a wonderful world this could be.

But no, we have so many mean, arrogant and spoiled SOB's that keep throwing sarcastic and hurtful remarks out there.

A lot has happened lately, within the past 10 years we have seen 911, Katrina, War, war and more war, a oil gusher (several really), killer tornados, very strange weather and now a nuclear meltdown that nobody really has any idea how bad it really is and a government (many governments) that are corrupt and leading us towards possible annihilation if we don't stop our service to self ways and change over to service to others way.

I will chalk up your comment to being another immature, clueless and heartless individual that needs to spiritually mature.

There is a youtube around that had an interview with some woman professing the end of the world in a like manner and is encouraging others to "put down" their pets. She is so sure that the rapture will occur and is worried for the pets that are left behind and so was encouraging believers to take Fido and Fluffy to the vet and say goodby.

Can you imagine waking on Sunday and your pets are dead and your kids are asking about about Fido and Fluffy, and all you have is a big vet bill? AARRGG!

At any rate, we here are disappointed about the rapture not happening because we were really looking forward to a 5 month period free of the Christain right religous nuts and their arrogant nonsense. Oh well, I guess we have to llive with them a little longer.

Hi everyone, so far nothing too bad just your everyday stuff. I am hopeful that last night was the peak of it all and today will be business as usual.

My very favorite Twilight Zone Episode is "The Hunt".

When I utter my last breath and pass over, if my dogs and cats are there to greet me, I will know I'm okay.

I am so sorry to hear that. Sometimes it is hard for us on the ambulance to know what it is like for nurses. We spend less than an hour with our patients and once we drop them off at the hospital we are done and likely never see them again. Nurses develop a relationship with patients since they spend more time with them. You have opened my eyes with your story. Anytime i am on a call with a small child it always hurts me to see them hurt or sick. I have been lucky enough to never be on a death of a child call but i fear that if i ever am that i will be done. Thank you for your support and for sharing that story with us here.

Yea. There is an old black and white short about an old country man that dies and ends up in a wooded area with his dog. There is a sign that says "Heaven" but when he approaches the angel at the gate says "Sorry, you can enter but the dog can't". The guy refuses to go in if his dog can't, He argues with the angel and tells him that if its heaven there will be fishing, and I can't fish without my dog. The angel says sorry and tries to talk the guy into coming in.

He declines and walks down the road, looking for a fishing hole, and runs into another angel that tells him that that place was really hell and the angel at the gate was Satan. He said the way to tell the difference between heaven and hell is if dog, and infact all animals are allowed in or not, (no animals in hell) and that he was already in heaven.

Yes i remember that one well it is actually one of the old black and white twilight zone episodes. I always watch that one when scy fy channel is running marathons.

People have to choose to react.

Whether it's Camping or the government, and on and on.

It's all how we react to a situation or not react.
