Your "models" are based on your own visual observation and estimation of a crude illustration of someone else's model? That's not a model, that's a wild guess. And that's certainly not how you calculate orbital elements. I trust a model that fits over a thousand observations of a third-of-a-year portion of the comet's orbit to your eyeballing what you think the curves should be.

Yes, but he identifies himself. If a NASA source really knew about a comet likely hitting earth, would he/she still care to remain anonymous? I know I wouldn't give a flying fart who knew who I was and what job I would lose.

Shortly after making its u-turn, Elenin will perform a fly-by of Earth, coming within 21,000,000 miles of Earth. As a point of reference, the moon is roughly 240,000 miles from Earth.

… It should be clarified here that the exact position of Elenin as it passes by Earth is still unknown, so people who say it will hit Earth are just as inaccurate as those that are saying it will not.

I am making a prediction right now ahead of time. I predict that the comet won't hit the space station at all. Now this will be my second prediction come true as I also predicted that there would be no massive earthquake in california on march 31st as the girl from Japan had stated and so many on here believed.

Do I get my band of faithful loyal followers yet or must I keep proving my galactic knowledge with even further predictions.

A small near-Earth asteroid (NEA), discovered Monday night by the NASA-funded LINEAR asteroid survey, will make the closest approach to Earth ever recorded. There is no danger of a collision with the Earth during this encounter.
The object, designated 2004 FH, is roughly 30 meters (100 feet) in diameter and will pass just 43,000 km (26,500 miles, or about 3.4 Earth diameters) above the Earth's surface on
March 18th at 5:08 PM EST (2004) (2:08 PM PST, 22:08 UTC).
On average, objects about the size of 2004 FH pass within this distance roughly once every two years,
but most of these small objects pass by undetected. This particular close approach is unusual only in the sense that scientists know about it. The fact that an object as small as asteroid 2004 FH has been discovered now is mostly a matter of perseverance by the LINEAR team, which is funded by NASA to search for larger kilometer-sized NEAs, but also routinely detect much smaller objects.
First discovered on December 28th 2005 by
SpaceWatch there have been few updates on this object since its discovery.
Very little is known about its composition or origin. Its size is currently estimated by NASA to be about
426 feet across.
NeoDys estimates the size range to be between
393 feet to
918 feet across.
This asteroid is due to make
two close approaches

next 3 years,
first, March 18th 2004, 5:08 PM EST
Second being
April 19, 2010
Third
November 8th, 2011.

All of the experts on this asteroid are predicting a near miss in both cases. We are of course assured that there is no danger.

I'm not sure if anyone has speculated on this, but if I remember correctly the Hopi blue star prophecy mentions something falling from the sky. Is it possible that this could be the ISS after it's hit by the comet? If the comet did strike the station, I'm assuming it would be obliterated, but debris would descend to earth?

Anyway, totally random, but thought I'd put that out there.

It's a shame anyone can just say anything on here and get loads of flags and stars yet some quality threads get totally ignored.

Hmmm astrology sites, frequented by scientists more than likely, don't mention hitting the earth but a conspiracy site does and your betting your money on the conspiracy site?

3-5km with a tail of 15-20km. Of course, that tail will continue to grow as it approaches the sun, IF, the comet is made up of as much frozen liquid as some will have you to believe. I think it is more solid that frozen liquid, however, which would mean the tail wouldn't expand as much.

Yea, thats weird, but it's probably because "Comet Elenin" is known as "C/2010 X1." But, still, it's strange. I heard it could be a dwarf star, actually, and not a comet at all.

It's alright guys, there's nothing too big to worry about. We just have to hope for three very simple and down to earth things :

a) The Arcturians of the Galactic Federation move the comet away further from Earth so we're safe.
b) The Arcturians stop WWIII by warning all the Earth's leaders.
c) We've all got our tin foil hats ordered for the exact date the comet is due. If even ONE of us doesn't have a hat on, it could result in Hypercosmic Mind-Control Megawaves from the Orion System 55th Density Dino-Reptoid Demons that could then infiltrate the rest of us, and shut down the Universal Supermatrix before we all save the world and turn into Transhuman Superhero Multidimensionals.

THIS JUST IN! After minutes of exhausting research I have determined that Elenin will directly hit the McDonalds on Cassopolis st in Elkhart, IN! I have an inside source at NAPA that can verify this. How disheartening to realize after the impact of a reletivly small body in the infinity of space I will no longer be able to get my Angus burgers there! Come the f' on people! How in the hell could anybody calculate with all of the variables that something is gonna hit the ISS in 8 months!? WOW, LOL!
