Regardless of the sensitive nature of the information this guy divulged, he is in the can not as much for what he did making him a traitor, but that he in fact went back on an agreement that he made when he was given access to information in the first place not to willfully divulge it to folks who where not cleared to access it. So, even if the info he gave away makes him look like a "brave" person for doing the 'right" thing, he broke an agreement that everyone else would get the same treatment for if they did what he did. I think they should let the bum from the UN or anyone else that has a "problem" with how he is being detained see him and talk to him and let him cry on they're shoulders or whatever. Manning willfully divulged information he was supposed to protect. What the information was isn't really relevant, regardless of how much damage or death it causes, also being irrelevant. Manning basically commited a crime for which HE has already convicted himself. That's what's so stupid about the whole thing because HE did something he has no defense against. But sure, let folks see him and make sure he's all ok with living with the situation he has only himself to blame himself for, give himself a minimum of 10 yrs and a $10,000 fine.

A UN torture investigator could not access Army Private Bradley Manning as he was denied by the U.S. government. Manning has been reportedly locked up for 23 hours a day in solitary confinement and been subjected to other hardships. Special Rapporteur Juan Mendez said he is "extremely disappointed" that the U.S. won't let him talk to Manning without supervision.

The more people stands up like Private Bradley Manning, the less the power of the fascist US government will be to stop the truth from coming out.

The Americans need to stand up and share the burden with Bradley Manning, a true hero against the war on "true terror". Why are Americans standing on the side allowing this hero to be abused and subjugated to hardship for doing the right thing.

I will repeat, if enough Americans stand up, the US government won't be able to prosecute all of them.

Manning has achieved more in a few days/months than you or I will in our entire lives...probably.

doesnt matter WHAT the intel was, he distributed something he wasnt AUTHORIZED to do so, so now he's paying the price

And you wonder why the rest of the world "bashes" America, it's because of people like you.

Land of the Free and Home of the Brave eh? More like "Land of the Enslaved and Home of the Cowards".

Can't wait for your treacherous, lying, sorry excuse for an empire to crumble as every other has done in times past - maybe THEN we can get around to actually fixing this world.

EDIT TO ADD: This does not apply to those Americans who have 'woken up'. Just wanted to clarify that.

They don't have any evidence. They have to keep the torture on untill he cracks and confesses. Untill then they can't risk a trial. Guilty untill proven guilty.

Manning is not a traitor, he is a Patriot, but he will be tried for crimes against the US no doubt.
I hope the info that he turned over will be worth his life.

No, Manning IS a traitor, of the WORST kind.

People see him taking a stand against the government and Oooh and Ahhh, "He's a hero, blah, bah, blah;" but they couldn't possibly be more wrong.

Manning isn't a "whistleblower" who saw an injustice - or a crime - and reported it outside the chain of command. He was a nobody, stuck in a nothing job in a crappy country, and all he wanted was to hurt the government he felt was responsible for putting him there.

How do I know this? It's simple really: If he were a "whistleblower" he would have reported what he knew outside his chain of command, even to the press if necessary to circumvent a military intent on silencing him and covering up whatever it was they might have done.

He didn't do that did he?

What he did do, was dump a hundred thousand documents onto a thumb drive to disseminate willy nilly. He had NO IDEA what was in those documents. Do you, or anyone else, think that he took the time to read them all first? THAT, IMO, is what makes Manning and people like him dangerous. He had absolutely no regard for anyone or anything other than his own twisted, selfish needs when he released those documents. He didn't care who he hurt with the info; there could have been a list of Taliban infiltrators in the doc dump and they would have all lost their heads Taliban style.

No sir, I'm sorry, but Manning was not some kind of hero, whistleblower, or patriot. He is a indiscriminate traitor pure and simple - and if convicted by a courts martial he deserves to die.

Does "Innocent unless proven guilty" ring a bell?

We're here to deny ignorance, not display ignorance.

Yes it does ring a bell. Its the civilian motto when it comes to justice.

You obvioulsy are confused because this guy is a soldier and in the military you are guilty until proven innocent.

Your ignorance has been denied.

You're missing the point. This isn't about what he did, this is about the fact that, once again, America is trying to cover up torture - with the fact that he is one of your naturalborn citizens making it a double-whammy.

The UN is an absolute joke. They have no power whatsoever. How many times has Israel been sanctioned by the UN? How many times have the actions of Israel been "condemned" by the UN? 50 times? 60 times?

What did the UN do when Israel decided to ignore what the UN "ordered" Israel to do and instead, continue breaking international law and the articles set forth by the Geneva Convention? Nothing.
What did the UN do other than say "bad bad Israel!" when Israel bombed the 2 UN Buildings a few years back? NOTHING.

Fact is that the UN is nothing more than a bunch of puppets who don't hold any real power over ANY of the first world counties, especially superpowers like the USA.
It's only there to keep 3rd world nations in check and make sure the banks get to take over whatever country they choose to.
Another reason for the UN's existence is of course to make the sheople feel a little better about the world and themselves.

If we want to bring real change, we better rely on ourselves and our fellow men and women instead of national or international governmental bodies.

TPTB are going to mess up Bradley but good. When they get done with him, if he is allowed to live, won't even have a brain left.

Torture, mind "conditioning" you name it, it's being done to him.

You don't go up against the big boys and not get mucked up good.

Sad, but true. They can, have and continue to do anything and everything that they want to do to anyone they choose to.
The saddest part is how we all collectively bend over and take it in our behinds instead of shouting enough is enough.
When will we finally wake the hell up and make them pay for all the lives they have destroyed?

I dont think this is true, I saw a former American soldier talking about this and he said that it was up to the soldier to a certain extent to deny illegal orders, if they comply after being ordered by a supirior to do something illegal they can still be charged with the crime.

This is very wrong, even if he leaked info as a soldier he should be treated better than the average person, but my guess is he's being treated very badly as a 'spy' when really he just wanted to release info that he felt was wrong to withold from the public.

It does not matter what he has done or if he has done it the treatment of manning is disgusting especially when the america goverment accuses other goverments of human rights issues double standards at its best

This is one of those terrible issues where regular ethics confront particular codes and laws (and viceversa).

The UN man visit denied is something we can deplore, but understand because that is a non-UN affair.

what part of "violate somebody's rights and you are violating everybody's rights" do you not understand?

unless you are one of Manning's torturers surveiling\posting here.

but the joke will be on you in the end, when you are ordered to report for delousing and sent to the "showers"

I can tell you all from past experiences with the US army that when you sign up any thing you do that goes to court you are Guilty tell proven innocent

For us citizens it is innocent tell proven guilty but for Military personal it is the other way around..

Best of luck to you Mr. Manning.
