In Austin I once saw a couple on the corner trying to get money. There was alot of traffic and the light was short so it took about 20 min to move the entire length of the shopping center. Well after about 15 (right around 430ish) I see that same couple walk into the parking lot of the mini mall and jump into a late model truck. Needless to say I had my suspicions before and this maybe just a fluke, but is still don't trust these people.

But I do want to give props as some have some funny signs. "Ninja's killed my family" or "can I have a dollar for a beer, Hey at least I am honest" etc.

I've offered to buy so many homeless people (panhandlers
) food before and they all either ask for the money instead or just decline the offer completely. Sounds to me like the guy you tried to hire was simply a panhandler..as sad as it is, it pays well.

I did something similar once. I never actually had a job offer but I told this one local panhandler ( I wont call him homeless cause he has a home) that I could hook him up with a job. He made every excuse in the book why he wouldn't take it - just as I had suspected he would do. It really comes down to laziness not lack of oportunity for many of these people.

The problem with the people that panhandle is that they have played the system so long, that we as good people cannot tell if they are actually in need of $$$ or food. I have been homeless before and know first hand what it is like. I also got 3 jobs and worked by can off for three months. I started at living at a hotel, then extended stay and then apartment. The underlying piece that nobody talks about is a word called MOTIVATION. I am a single dad and motivated myself to upgrade my life. Just giving someone $$$ enables them and doesn't teach them "to fish" so to speak.

dude i live near one of those daily work handout places, you know where Hispanic immigrants wait for work...yeah well they work their asses off everyday and they would definetley take you up on that offer. I think it just depends on who you ask. Some people choose to be homeless, and beg for money. But some like a lot of illegals are willing to work their asses off for chump change.

I bet if people stopped handing those dudes free money they would go get a job...but damn bro I don't blame them for not wanting to work- it sucks! I'd rather live in a jungle with a house made out of sticks and eat snakes and bugs then work a 9-5 job.

How about everyone that seems to think people are homeless and beg because it is so profitable and fun go out and do just that. How about everyone that thinks that all homeless people and beggars are greedy and lazy, do not give them anything. Problem solved.

First, you should have offered the panhandler a salary with benefits. Then assured him that he would be the member of a union with his job protected. You would pay him year-round for raking your leaves once in the Fall, and he would be entitled to Workers Compensation and Disability insurance when he developed a repetitive motion injury.

No wonder the US has trillion dollar deficits! You can't pay a hungry man enough to rake your leaves.

So you've discovered the truth about how lucrative a business begging is.

They've done pieces on MSM about this too. It's a symptom of society in general being broken if you ask me.

Well, Thanks to our wonderful IRS, and Uncle Sammy,,, I may soon be there ... I have struggled to stay in the "Middle Class" where my hard work put me,, and for the past 6 to 8 years have been falling out of it. I have begged for help,,, not on the street,, but to my Bank, Mortgage Company,,, Credit card company,,, and over the past few years,,, said F_it,,,, and have not filed my taxes,,, as I can't afford the nice hefty amounts for accountants, tax lawyers,,, LIKE GE or Bank of Nazi's (Oh I meant America),,, WHO PAY 0 (that is a ZERO) in taxes....
Well Mr. IRS,,, both State and FED,,, want me to pony up,,,, and I say F_U.... not going to happen.
I PAY MY PROPERTY TAXES,,, and as I go am paying,,,, and still am in the red.... NO SYMPATHY for someone who works their ass off from the IRS....
well,,, I am packing my bags for the day they come,,, cause I aint paying.
They can get a dollar from each illegal here to cover my part,,, or GE or BOA can pay my small pittance they say I OWE...
SO,,,,, if you see me on the street corner,,,, I will have my sign that says,,, the IRS put me here,,, and yes I will rake your yard,,, and shovel sh__! if I need to do a honest days work,,,,but frankly it will have to be TAX FREE because,, the system is broke and stealing from me to make ends meet...
well sorry,,
I will soon be in the woods as the Survivalist Crazy who had a nice home in a subdivision,,,like you maybe,,, and decided ENOUGH IS ENOUGH...
SIGNED
Soon to Be a Homeless Person
DUE TO AMERICA AND THE IRS BEING THEIVES AND LIARS AND NOT DOING RIGHT BY HARD WORKING MIDDLE CLASS AMERICANS
Signed,,,
EarthCitizen23
Waiting on that World Tax,,, since we are the cops of the world anyway.....
Not PAYING FOR IT
Going Underground soon..... anyone care to join me in my One man Rebellion

I would say, rework your post to not contemporize the current "immediate money" grab on the homeless guy, and maybe let the character off the hook, because it's only your own ego reworked after the grilling you've done on some guy over petty cash man.

But Rockefeller wants a nation of workers, not thinkers, so forgive the guys brains for making a buck off you hard-working saps. Going to get all worked up about it?! Why not? It's already rush-hour where they're at!

I hope those of you that are so judgemental are atheists. I'm agnostic and am content to debate with God about the state of religion if I find there is a higher power.

But I'm am certain that the most insensitive of you proport to be Christians. I don't envy you when you have to justify your actions and thoughts in a final judgement. Your hypocracy is biblical.

If you are an atheist, at least your being honest about the state of our civilization. You obviously support the notion of survival of the fittest. And you are all from a cull. At least your not hypocrites. Just heartless.

You should feel pity for them if they are mentally ill. Because they have a disorder which controls there lives.
You should feel pity if the are poor because they have substance problems or have socialization issues.
You should even feel pity for those that are ingaged in a fraud.
Because you are still richer than the fraudsters. Well, I don't think your rich if you condemn the meek. But, don't you think you are richer in spirit because you have dignity? Obviously the fraudster don't have this asset.

What I read out here- Well- it's disgusting. It's ignorant.

I think you'd better pray like hell if you believe in God. Pray that God is not as judgemental as you.

listen,

just like any business begging is an organization. being someone who is familiar with homeless people i can say they are mostly controlled by a crime syndicate. most of the money the get from begging goes to someone else. they pay a "fee" for using that spot, and in return, the crime boss doesnt whack them. thats just the way it is... if you want someone to rake your leaves you would be better off going to a shelter. those people are pretty trustworthy and usually will jump at the opportunity to make money

WAIT!!! I just realized something. I'm the biggest hypocrite of you all.
I have no pity for your prejudice.
Gosh. I can't allow myself to meet out this injustice.
You have learning disabilites.
Oh.
Shame on me.

Carry on.
Now I understand where our youth get the idea that it's ok to arrange bum fights.
Now I understand why homeless people are set on fire and beaten.
I understand gay bashing.
I understand the lynching of black people.
It's a intellectual disorder that allows these things to happen.
It's pitiful.
Shame on all of us.

All you need to get a couple of bucks off of me is to shoot from the hip. I honestly dont give a # if they are gonna use it to buy drugs or booze. If I were in that situation I would probably opt to be roasted out of my mind most of the time too. Many of the homeless are war vets. Men who bought the lie about Uncle Sam wanting them. What they did not know was that Uncle Sam is a fickle partner and once you have served your purpose...you're out the door! literally.....u are out the door and sitting on the curb with that tattered camo jacket and flashbacks for the rest of your life. I have approached homless people with money and have not even been prompted to do so other than the fact that I could feel their desperation on the night air. Why not? Its not gonna kill me to pass off a couple of pieces of paper that have less value as the days pass. I have a soft spot for the homless because I know that not all of them are these shifty weasels that are looking to trick someone out of a dollar. Gay teens get thrown out on the streets...women and their children opt for the streets over abusive homes and with current economic conditions....there are gonna be a lot more bums on the streets who were probably normal citizens not even months before. It happens that way sometimes. And if I can take the sting of that reality away by helping you zone out for a few minutes or hours...I dont mind. And before someone mentions that these people can be violent addicts armed with a board with a nail in it.....I have had run ins with violent people. All but one were so called ...normal "upstanding" citizens with livelihoods and most likely support systems.

So i guess its ok for me to have a charity bucket and get people to put money in it lying about what im going to do with the money, using it on myself.

But its fine to post a signs saying im homeless when im not, or looking a bus ticket when im not and take peoples money by lying..

Wrong is wrong it has nothing to do with judging.

Dont trust what you see on TV, they only show what suits them to establish their own agenda and to sell the o r of it all to the masses, she was possibly a paid actor, and if she was not how knows her situation, I do not.

OP.

You define an entire segment of society by an experience you claim you had where at best you found one disingenuous beggar or parasite.

Shame on you and the others that are jumping in passing judgment on the homeless based on a post on ATS.

Yes there are even places where you get training for panhandling. But to say the homeless are just posing is just more propaganda.
