The best players are black because of top notch breeding back in the day. Just like working animals, slaves were bred to be bigger and stronger. I atribute it to Africa, Im sure in Africa you have to run faster from preditors and stuff, I think blacks might have an edge on us Euros physically.

not trying to sound like angry neo-con white american because this effects all races. it's happened to me and it also happened to my best friend (years apart) who is mexican and lost the job due to lack of an asian employment at the company. we only know these things because our friend is higher ups and couldn't get either of us in because of affirmative action laws.

Let me let some of you in on something white people are from Africa too, some black people are from many places around the world.
These are Americans! And the problems are all over for all of us. What if I said that we need more white people in the NBA because it isn’t fair. Common sense only works when it comes to white people?

There is a phenomena called "culture of poverty" it is real and it applies to many populations....

It is real and I have seen it. Kids do not think "outside the box" meanwhile we have a "group" telling them "Whitey" or the "Rich" STOLE from them and they are now "owed" a living or whatever. I have certainly run into THAT mentality and not only with Blacks.

What this has done was created the "My mama will take care of me" syndrome that most black men have, and therefore, if they don't live with girlfriend or baby mama, they will live and be taken care of by mama.

I know this may have steamed some fellow black ATS members, but this is something that our society should eventually deal with, yet it remains to be the 'pink elephant in the room'.

And yes, Sometimes it 'ain't the "white man" holding us back... it's ourselves.

Actually with the unemployment rate, you can double whatever the reported number is. I work in the Employment field, and I'd say the unemployment rate among black American's is around 25%.

In the year 2000, one in ten black men were in prison. Half of the inmates in American prisons were black. There is no way that these numbers don't contribute to the statistic that's freaking you out

Add to that what another poster mentioned earlier about urban culture's attitude toward education and it's really not surprising. And that attitude is certainly not just among blacks...

Although I can not speak for the whole of the American population, I can speak from my own experience. I grew up in a part of Chicago that is 75% black more or less. I was raised and still live in the ghetto, so I can only speak of the conditions here in the ghetto. I have known a few black nerds so to speak, and it is true, some were harassed and accused of trying to be white, so most that don't make it past the harassment wind up giving up and joining a gang and settling on a life of drug consumption or selling drugs. One thing I noticed as far as the black nerds, they pretty much all had both parents in their life, I feel that is a major contributing factor.

Another thing, when some of my black peers were disciplined or reprimanded, they would cry out that it is only because they are black, even if the teacher or authority figure was black.

My area is in a state of poverty, has been since all the big mills and warehouses started shutting down.

The next thing, I have seen the mentality in nice and you could say good suburban areas, where the life is good and the work is plenty, the parents do well, but the kids growing up, idolize the ghetto/gangsta life of the city as portrayed on MTV rap and hip hop videos. The kids try to act hard and wind up forming their own gangs or going into the city and joining gangs then bringing that life into suburbia. The parents were hard working, yet their kids decided to be a gangsta, not bothering with a job, instead selling drugs and what not. The sad thing is that, many naturally have the potential and ability, but they are peer pressured to be "hard" and live a "thug" life.

I'm Hispanic, and the same thing happens for Hispanics. I was often approached and asked to join a gang and what not, but I feared the repercussions of my father more than of the gangs lol. Peer pressure I think is the answer.

However, thinking about it, racial prejudice does play a role. There have been cases where say for example "thugs" got a regular job, and solely on the fact of being a thug and ignorant gang banger, they would wind up stealing fro the work or in some cases organizing a robbery, keep in mind it's the result of their life choice not the color of their skin, many employers will refuse to hire blacks, or at least the ghetto thug hip-hop blacks. Whether it's right or wrong is not so much the issue, it's more of the young mindset these kids begin to develop, glorifying the gangsta life. Another thing in my neighborhood, plenty of stores close down, due to being robbed, The blockbuster closed down prematurely as a result of 3 robberies. I hear people complain "there's never nothing good in the ghetto" I laugh and say "well if people stopped robbing them left and right, maybe we would have better stores to shop in, one week it's the grand opening and the next without prior notice we see the grand closing". With that I think it is safe to say that at least in my area it is not so much of a race thing, but more of a ghetto thing.

Also, I noticed, the blacks and Hispanics that keep their jobs despite being ghetto and/or gangsta thugs hehe, are the ones that do not bring their street life into the work place.

IT gets complicated the more you try to dissect it. Most of the people out of work, I believe is by choice. Despite these hard economic times, it is more profitable to either live off welfare or unemployment checks, or in the case here in the ghetto slinging drugs. I Could not collect unemployment because I was getting paid cash working for an O/O truck, and for what ever reasons, I got the run around the one time I did try to apply for the link card (after that big mess of things I decided to never ever apply for that again, I was the only one there with documents in hand and they kept saying I needed x document, produced it, and they said well now you need x document untill they figured out a way to deny me)

In the ghetto at least, it may be more economical to be on welfare, sell drugs or live off unemployment benefits once they can get them, that goes for all races, when you think about it, with all the government rip-offs in most cases I don't blame anyone for doing so. However abusing the system is definitely wrong no matter what way you look at it.

For decades black people were deliberately kept out of good jobs in this country; housing; loans; education; freedom of movement, not to mention lynchings in the south. They don’t have the unity and homogeneousness of the Asians because they are descendent of slaves, who where taken from all parts of Africa, and don’t even know where there ancestors come from.
Cut off from their language, culture, and religion and don’t have a clue what part of Africa their ancestors are from. That’s why Asians do better because they have something tangible to look at for a culture, such as a language or motherland. Black people in America don’t.

If anything it is a minor miracle black people have survived.

I'd like someone to name me ONE policy or program that discourages someone from working! Don't say welfare, because I work in welfare and nothing screams go get a job like trying to raise a family of 5 on $364 PER MONTH!
