We live, we die, we (maybe) live again. But why?
Because existence is better than non-existence. There's always a quick way out, not that I endorse it.

I don't know why people think there has to be a "point" to life... I've always been puzzled by those who are looking for the "purpose" of life... Why does there have to be a purpose? There was no promise that we'd have this great purpose in life. I think the whole idea of having to have a passion or purpose or even a point to their lives just leads to expectation and disappointment.

IF there is a point to life, we can only guess at what it is, so why worry about it?

I know it's strange for an atheist to be quoting the bible, but there are some very wise words in there... At times like these, I go back to my youth and what I learned from my time spent in religion... Matthew 6:26-34

Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.

In other words. do you see the flowers wondering what their "purpose" is? Or worrying over what the "point" of their life is? No, they just are. Only humans are so self-absorbed to worry and fret over the purpose or point of their lives, as if living it isn't blessing enough.

Just my thoughts.

Enjoy life with your wife, whom you love, all the days of this MEANINGLESS LIFE that God has given you under the sun— ALL YOUR MEANINGLESS DAYS. For this is your lot in life and in your toilsome labor under the sun. Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, FOR IN THE REALM OF THE DEAD, WHERE YOU ARE GOING, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.

I like to look at life like a game of Monopoly basically if you....up, you go straight to jail...do not pass go, do not collect your $200, or on the other hand pass go collect your $200.

Well, you must feel that there is some point to life, or else you would have simply committed suicide a long time ago. After all, what is the point of living a "pointless" life if there is so much pain involved? Something must give you a reason to believe that the pain is worth it.

Why do people say silly things like this? I see this all the time here and IRL. I can't understand why people think that if a person believes life has no point, they should off themselves.

My appendix has no purpose but I am not going have it removed for that reason alone.

Benevolent Heretic said it best.

I am not trying to be rude or offensive i am seriously just asking this question rhetorically to you.

What exactly do you hope to gain from asking this to ANYONE other than yourself? do you think anybody else knows?

do you think that by searching externally you will discover this?

NO! you won't. if you are still at the stage where you are externally searching for the meaning of life, get past that and realize that you are the only one who can answer that question.

peace!

Edit to make randyvs happy: People claim that the point of life is to think, and love, and I don't claim those to be wrong, but how does that work when there are people in this world who don't or can't love, and have limited thinking capabilities?

Ah the $64,000 question.

I know people say to learn, to love, etc, but as of last year I decided we are here
for the Eon old battle of good vs evil.

Probably because flowers can't think and animals are slaves to their instincts and humans can think beyond their own desires?

To add to below...

Edgar Casey did some readings about the origin of man as a species, and according to him, originally
we were here as spirit/soul beings with no physical form.

I forget how many he stated were here, but as time went along, we started to manifest our spirit/soul into different physical life forms of various sorts, and that could have been where some of the legends came from of the Centaur and other odd creatures etc.

Sort of like an amusement park for the spirit/soul.

As we kept on manifesting into these creatures we got trapped in the cycle and could not escape.
There was more too it but I cant remember the rest.

Still for a long time I have thought that our physical form is not our true nature, and if you believe the soul is eternal then it makes sense to some degree.

If our true nature is ethereal then reincarnation makes some sense in that we are trying to break free from physical nature of things.

That leaves heaven and hell if you believe in that.

Damned to hell, or lifted to heaven sort of fits in with reincarnation and trapped spirit beings too if you look at it from Cayce's angle different.

Cayce was a devote christian, but I dont ever remember reading how he reconciled the reincarnation, trapped spirit beings and the heaven/hell argument.

Good question. I really don't think there's any point in life. It's not like you were asked before you were created, Everything is just destined without any meaning it seems...

Life is however you as an individual choose to define it, by how you as an individual lives said life.

For some it is to never question their existence, to pay their taxes, to have a few kids, laughs, beers ???

For some it is a chance to explore, whilst paying their taxes, having a few laughs, kids, beers ???

And then for some it is an emotional ride of creativity, soul searching, intellectual endeavour, and progression, along with paying taxes, having a few kids, laughs, and beers ???

Of course there are many scenario's to describe how various individuals lives play out, perhaps I'm wrong and nobody's plays out as above, I don't believe there is any set formula.

All you can do is question everything, and maintain independent thought, oh and enjoy it whilst doing so, as everyday is a blessing, no matter how screwed up the world is, it is our personal perception which manifests our reality (IMO)

The point of life is to ask you that verry question every second of your existance untill you finally grasp it.
And when you do, the meaning of life is no longer important to you.

Nobody knows.
Anyone who claims to know, is mistaken, a fantasist, or a liar.
Something drives us on to pass on our genetic material, why that is, or even might be, cannot be answered by anyone living now, or anyone who has ever lived, and I doubt it will ever be answered.
