There is no point. We just are because we are and we will because we will.

You beat me to it.

I was just going to say the only point, is to realize it is all pointless. That is why 42 is just as good an answer as anything.

My god!....what ...so there is no point in you being alive right now?

seriously?

The point is here and now. Thoughts of your future or past mean nothing really. No-oe else has that same perspective on your reality as you, even those that shared the same experiences.

The point of life is to simply live it and be amazed at it all. Evolutionists will probably flounder here, because if life is really just a celestial accident, then life is a fluke and there is no real point. Logic suggests there is a point. There is way more going on here than meets the eye. If life had no point, there would be no need for metaphysical forums and debate, now would there?

So you say the point is to gain a unique perspective? That is not much of a reason for existing, unless said perspective is important or required post life. And at that point, this whole question becomes a bunch of opinions, theories or guesses.

Why do you say or imply, evolutionists don't see a point in life?

Don't they see what life is in a different way?

A peron that believes this life has more after death won't live this life fully or true to themselves. They expect something greater that may not come into fruition.

What's the point of you posting on ATS? To experience, or to communicate? Maybe that's the point of life.

Not pessimistic, realistic. Food for thought, why would there be any other reason for life to have a purpose? The fact that you believe there is more to life is due to denial of this very true fact. Religion and other attempts at explanation was made to give man a "purpose", otherwise we would all just be unmotivated animals. It's hard to take in, but this is what it all boils down to.

Unless there is a reality that won't end, if all is impermanent, there really is no point.

Who's to say its about gaining a unique perspective? Whydo we need a reason to exist? You are here, you exist, so therefore enjoy your life.

No-one knows the true answer to why we are here. We can guess, we can lead others into a belief yet can never offer prooof or evidence to back up that divine answer.

it depends how gullible a person is I guess.

I was using those terms losely to relate on an even playing field. I am just looking for a direct answer on how you differentiate between a "soul" and a "body", and why any such difference would exist.

By the way, when I post here, I never post with the assumption I am correct, so dont take this as a personal attack on you where one of us has to win. I post when I am curious and typically it is late at night when I cant sleep and want to gain some additional insight.

Why does there need to be a purpose?

You are asking a religious question.

The only thing we can say for sure, is we are here.

There doesn't have to be a purpose. That's what I stated in my original post.

Ok, there is no purpose in life...at all, we shoud kill ourselves.

I was kind of meaning a divine purpose of such.

To say there is no purpose of life outside of a religious or belief system kind of makes me think you are a pessimist.

I like these kinds of topics.

I THINK the purpose of life is to recognize that we each are just so insignificant-as an individual.
I can go through life only loving myself and my own selfish interests, but what is the prize at the end of the day?

No-one , ok there is a very small minority that can't recall or acknoledge their existence before they were born.

Only the teachings of history can tell us we as a species have been around for generations gone by.

Our own existene now, allows us to see this reality. When we die, which we will all do, are we somehow expecting to be part of that future just because we are alive today? If so how long for?

I guess it's like yin and yang.

the good part of our self awareness gives us so many pleasures, yet death is the biatch to slap us in the face.

If this is your view, why dont you become a drug lord and thrive on murder and money? What holds you back?

Excellent.

Not sure I understand the perspective asking the question, but a mundane answer would be something like this...

The body is a biological machine with a neck-top computer... it's a vehicle. Without a Driver it is just another dead body.

The Soul is massless, non-human, aware-energy... a portion of it "plays" the Driver. Using the body to move limited awareness of itself around the physical realm.

The portion of Soul that Drives the Body is the Experiencer of Here. And all experience gained is passed out into the main level of Soul.

Why we need to make the differentiation is so that people come to understand they are not the Body. So everyone knows they are more than the sum total of the Body's lifespan, more than a progenitor's DNA memory.

With this knowing comes an experience .. being eternal, having experiences out of choice, not making Value Judgements. Which leads us to experience Being the powerful soul we are while in the body.. which is the next step of human evolution... if we make it.
