No, but radar data would still be collected by Beale/NORAD. If the track matches a commercial flight plan, presumably no problem/issue. Otherwise, an alert is declared an fighter/interceptor aircraft are dispatched to investigate.

I don't see why the government hasn't explained what happened? Why the secrecy? They usually tell us what's going in when it comes to wars.

I can't see a missile just changing the course of another missile that's designed to blow up on contact!

It's a UFO until it's been identified and confirmed you can't go around calling it a missile until you know for sure.

And no fighters or interceptors were sent or "scrambled"?

Must of not been a threat, i.e.: scheduled flight, not a threat, etc, etc.

Thanks,
Tom

The government has:

"There is no evidence to suggest that this is anything else other than a condensation trail from an aircraft," said Pentagon spokesman Colonel Dave Lapan, who reiterated that there was no threat to America.

Or NORAD KNEW it was a missile launch and not an aircraft. No sense in sending interceptors/fighters to track down a missile.

Now shoot the missle down with another missile ...?
That certainly makes sense if you can!

What is the speed of a typical surface to air missile??... If this was a missile moving at speed, how the heck could you film it for a full 10 minutes?!?!... Sorry, but it's just a plane with a contrail...

Another missile from where?
A ship? A ship which had been tracking the alleged sub? I thought the sub was supposed to be undetected.

Of course, since it was a slow missile there would have been plenty of time I suppose. A normal missile would have been gone before a response to a surprise launch would have been possible.

Excuse me...

Do you understand that this is for SHIP traffic?

This has nothing to do with air traffic.

Mess with our money = warning
I read a couple of days ago that a Chinese sub showed up in the middle of a Navy exercise, I think it was. Article said that they were embarrassed, yea, I bet.
Nice work Boon, thanks for posting. I just hope for everyones sake your wrong.

That article you read was 3 or 4 years old. Someone reposted it, but it was from around 2007.

once again boondock, youve added a good amount of light on a topic that is left in the dark for the masses.

were living in darkest age, its now confirmed after all these missle tests. question is, whose provoking ww3 exactly?

This is rediculous...the helicopter pilot said he videod for 7 minutes....
No missle travelling at speed can stay within sight for seven minutes...that would be thousands of miles...

This post CLEARLY clinches it for me, even though I never bought into the jet theory. if you look at the HD vid on this website posted previously MSM coverage you can clearly see the engine exhaust even at that range! You will NEVER see a commercial jetliners exhaust/heat source from that distance.

Even the retired military and ex-defense secretary say it's a missile!!

alrighty then

notice that is NOT sunlight reflecting off the nose of an aircraft
as the sun was directly behind Phage's eastbound jet but it's still
almost completely round. Exhaust portals on missiles are round.

and my green line in this pic takes into account of wind drift

www.liveleak.com...

also retired Army Lt. Gen McTierney said it was a missile on TV.

also a mod here at ATS is married to a controller at NORAD
and he said he saw it LAUNCH.

now couple all the above with my OP diagram and the fact that
China has test fired a missile at US before:

www.time.com...

and for me, the writing is on the wall.
It's a Chinese missile.
And it was a warning to the US
at the G-20.

There is nothing special about that Notice to Mariners. It does not suggest a missile was launched. That is a standing notice...permanent. The area is a target and testing zone.

You can find them here:
The prior week:

And one from August:
www.nga.mil...

March:
www.nga.mil...

Last year:

It is in every issue.

Have to say I have been keeping my gob shut on this one and watching the debates unfold - at first it did look very like it could have been a missile (or I should say) not what most everyday people would take to immediately be a plane and I was all set for a juicy bit of conspiracy. But the debate (to me) seems to be going round in a pretty weak circle now I feel the 'logical thinkers' can take the crown on this one and the 'out of the box' thinkers should (quietly) concede and focus on a lot of other things that are happening on this planet every minute of everyday.

Hopefully a number of things will have been learned here, as our grand parents, parents etc have no doubt said - don't believe what you read in the papers.. this translates to all media in today's news frenzy but equally sometimes the simple answer is simply the answer.

However, I do agree that if the chaps who keep watch over the U.S's red, white and blue skies had contacted the news station with a simple run down of what people thought they were seeing then this whole debate would have been sensibly calmed at the outset. This should be a standard process to demonstrate that your country's hard earned dollars are well spent on your national security no matter how mundane. There are plenty of corporations /businesses that get asked the same inane questions from their customers (important to the individual asking the question of course ) on a daily basis and there will be processes and protocol for providing reassurance and answers to those customers and quite rightly.

Perhaps this incident could be used as a catalyst to get the type of service that US citizens deserve from their front line of defense. So my suggestion would be to take all the intelligence (both logical AND creative) and invest the same enthusiasm and vigor in to resolving the issue which created this debate in the first place and no I don't mean Mother Nature - I mean the inherent distrust of the media and the failure to communicate reassuringly by the aviation authorities and the military who should be singing from the same song sheet at all times..

Phew - my tuppence

Sorry carry on...

Of course he believes it, it supports his wild theory.

WHY WOULD CHINA FIRE A MISSILE AT IT'S LARGEST TRADING PARTNER?

Would any of you care to take a stab at that?

That's easy,

Its because the U.S. in pondering defaulting on its debt to China.

Duh????

I suppose if you don't care to discuss it, the great thing about ATS is that you DON'T have to click on the link.

Thanks for the explanation.

It's not the answer that's entertaining any more - it's the lengths that some individuals are going to prove themselves right or wrong that keeps me peeking back..

On a side note think I may use this pic as my new avatar - Susan Boyle (much as I love her) needs a wee rest.. oh don't forget to buy Subo's new album for Christmas, the wee hairy Mary fae Blackburn deserves it - she's a genuine human being, nutty as squirrel poo with a massive heart... no I'm not related but my brother went to school with her

Sorry..carry on
