From OP's Article:

In May, the FBI finally arrested Private First Class Bradley Manning, a 23-year-old American soldier, under suspicion of leaking classified documents.

Manning was betrayed hours earlier by famed hacker-turned-narc Adrian Lamo, who turned over chat logs with Manning to Army Intelligence. Lamo stated that his actions were due to a “crisis of conscience.”

Wouldn't Obtaining "Evidence" illegally (without warrant) be considered theft, as opposed to freely given evidence?

(second line is just asking)

Edit to Add: Evidence obtained through Illegal Clandestine means is inadmissible in court OR a military Tribunal against a Citizen of this nation.

Due Process.

The 4th Amendment:

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

In my oppinion this seems like a bunch of hype..... Think about this, if someone can shut down Irans Nuke program with a worm, don't you think someone could shut this down if they really wanted to? If all these governments wanted this guy out of their way they would get rid of him. He is not a mountain man like Osama BUM laden so unless Assange has secret underground caves, tunnels, a plethora of body guards armed with ak's and rpg's and know the land like the back of their hand, he would be way easier to find and track since he uses all this technology. So i'm thinking this is a good Public Relations (PR) bit in order to attracked more visiters to wikileaks. The Insurance file was suppose to be his ace in the hole if he was assasinated I don;t want anyone to die, so if he has to die for us to see this insurance file they can keep it. Maybe they want to see how people react to secret information? Calling out war crimes blah blah, what about the crime against humanity terrorist make the world face everyday? In alot of these cases of civilian casualties it's because these extremist sickos are using their women and children as body shields... Get info but don't judge something you have no clue about. Read whatever you want, but don't call this FACT. If you weren't there do you really know for sure 100%.who is really telling the truth?

I'm no lawyer, but I assume the chat logs Lamo handed over to the authorities proved reasonable enough to raid/capture/search all of Manning's belongings and his life, before they wrapped him up and carted him away to a military holding cell in Kuwait.

I've seen people busted for text messages on lesser crimes...so I would guess Lamo's testimony and chat logs was way more then they needed to get at Manning.

So much nonsense you posted you began repeating yourself.

Go do some research before you knock Assange and Wikileaks. You might learn a few things.

lol...

I think it is clear that I have done ENDLESS HOURS of research on wikileaks and mr Assange...heck, I was on this case in 2007/2008...

Yet you fail time and time again to add to this disscussion and return to flaming. I asked you very simple questions that could be answered quickly if you actually had answers...lets review.

You said-

I find it upsetting that a few folks will discredit Assange and claim he's a CIA op just because Their theories and opinions don't match with the facts he unleashed upon the world.

The man is a hero...

and for crying out loud, someone please find that password already lol.

and my retort was-

Mind sharing a few tid-bits on just what Mr Assange has unleashed?

Mind telling me just how "what he has unleashed" has changed anything?

Mind commenting on Julian's own words "I will crack the entire world open and rebuild it"?

Mind telling us why you think any of this rubbish holds water or means anything?

Or do you just trust this stranger blindly in "cracking open your world" and then "rebuilding it as he sees fit"?

Sorry...I tend to think the people who destroy my world should at least be voted into power.

I'm curious how you find it that people discredit Mr Assange souly on "theories and opinions that don't match with the facts he unleashed upon the world"...

What facts do YOU PERSONALLY find HUGE enough to overlook the fact that he plans on destroying and than reconstructing the entire world into his personal vision for us? Or are you just assuming he released something big?

Your reply was a half-made post with a quick insult and a demand for me to do research...

Hmmm...given the opportunity to defend your stance and share proper counter information to the info I have presented, and yet you roll over and play dead?

Really? But isn't julian Assange a HERO? YOUR HERO?

Weird...Usually when someone attacks something (including a personal hero) that I have researched I reply with research I have done.

Like I have stated, there is endless information to back up why I "suspect" a con-game here on behalf of wikileaks. Heck, the net is CRAWLING WITH INFO to show you what I suggest may very well be true.

I am honestly asking YOU, to give me ONE GOOD REASON to back up my brain-train and reconsider my concerns...and you fail to even try?

I see...

Well sir, if Julian IS LEGIT, let us hope that he has defenders much more "knowledgeable" in his innocence.

Again..I honestly ask you...mind telling me just what wikileaks unleashed on this world that you find so earth shattering? I'm open to new information and really would like to hear such a die-hard Assange supporter as outspoken as yourself give me a reason to "think I am wrong".

Unless of course you freely are admitting to having no knowledge of anything Mr Assange has released, or a damn thing he has said or done other then what your TV tells you...

I'm open minded and willing to listen sir...really.

Lets ask two hypothetical questions:

1) If you were the government and wanted to catch potential whistleblowers and their supporters how would you go on about it?

2) If you were a honest citizen wanting more transparecy in governmental affairs how would you go on about it?

Which of the answers is more likely to correspond to Wikileaks?

This is more of a reply to all your posts and viewpoint in general than any one particular post, but here goes....

Though you have claimed to have done "hours of research" and pieced together a valid argument for sitting on the fence, a few things you have seemingly missed (which you may not have but from my observations, you have) pop out. Hypothetically, say Assange is legit. This insurance file of his may have already been disclosed to the government, BY ASSANGE, and is of such a value that they do not want to bring him in. Kind of like a suicide bomber with a heart rate monitor bomb, they aren't going to shoot him. Regardless of your support/dislike for the government, this situation is very plausible. This would provide him with the freedom to roam, because if he gets arrested, BAM, files are released that, for argument sake, prove 9/11 was a false flag op, so the government can't release the file themselves and shoot themselves in the foot, or harm Assange.

Secondly, a point you kind of missed (again, it only appears to me you missed it, correct me if i'm wrong) is that the insurance file itself could be the plan. Millions of conspiracy theorists and whistleblowers and hackers, the kind of people with interest in such a thing, could be ousted in one swoop. Or, as previous posters have pointed out, it could be an economic tool so people buy new computers, or used to monitor the conspiracy community a bit more closely, but the thing that smells odd to me about it being a CIA Op is it looks like too much effort for not enough gains, and really Wikileaks has only created negative press for the US Government and the CIA.

In regards to the tweet, it could be a number of things, speculation isn't going to achieve much, it is really a case of waiting and seeing what happens. The only thing we can be sure of is that the message exists, and that is all. Hell it could be an in joke by one of Assange's top guys.....

It doesn't take a strong mind to be open to a multitude of open-ended, ill-researched, paranoid theories. Anyone can do that. Yes, wikileaks could be a false flag. Yes, space aliens could live in my toilet. But before making any assertion, have at least one piece of evidence and at least a basic understanding of what you're talking about.

Aside from that, learn the very basics of how wikileaks operates before assuming Assange is some sort of super-hacker. It is a site that whistleblowers can and do use to dump documents that they want the public to see. Assange and his crew just do the best they can to make sure the person doing the dumping doesn't get caught. On some networks, such a thing can be very difficult.

Also, as far as wikileaks being "dangerous" for revealing the truth, how could anyone at ATS say that?? Aren't we all here because we don't like information being hidden from us?

Please wake up.

Go to wikileaks and start looking through their documents. There is plenty of value to be found.

I will add my post here which I have also added to another thread. Just a thought even though I believe this is a con...

I'am sure this has probably already been thought of, but couldn't Reston be a person (which would explain also the capital R) ? All I could find on a Mr Reston was the Reston family who where Journalists for the New York Times, but the Father is dead (Mr Reston) and his son (Mr Reston Jr) is now 69 years old ... (cf. wikipedia)

After further lookup Mr Reston may have been a member of a secret society...

www.abovetopsecret.com...

Maybe the document(s) in the insurance file concern secret society members/plans etc ... Mr James Reston Jr could be the person who leeked the docs in the first place?... But I guess that's not really keeping the whistleblowers anonymity

After a bit of research James Reston also seemed to be in to all of the NWO stuff.

Anyway just throwing things out, I guess that is what we are here for right ?

Fascinating discussions in this thread!

Can we extrapolate from this a bit?

WE CAN TRY!!! Lets do it!

IF we were to go with the idea that WL is a CIA op.. What might that suggest about the "insurance"?

Dunno...really. If it IS a CIA trap, I "suggest the possibility" that the actual files are not where the "important part is".

Kinda like when the FBI sets up a drug sting by posing as drug dealers...you wouldn't say "I wonder what quality the drugs are or where they came from"...the operation would be more concerned with "who showed up to buy them".

IF (read that clearly, some are not) WL is CIA, then it would be my guess that the operation has to do with a few things.

a) Finding leakers and whistleblowers.
b) Exposing system weaknesses.
c) Scaring the crap out of certain countries.
d) covering something too clever for me to deduce (wouldn't be that hard really).
e) Reinforcing certain details of our wars that may be false by adding said lies to these documents.

But I am speculating...like I said, the guy and his group MAY be legit...if so, Assange should be seen as an enemy to our country not some hero.

Don't forget setting up laws and systems to shut down actual future whistle blowers.. IF WL turned out to be a sham.

www.abovetopsecret.com...

But I also do recall McKinnon mentioning that while hacking in he was not the only one hacking.

I see your point, but it is his fame or notoriety (pick your poison) that helps ensure that does not happen as that would really turn this thing into a circus thus alerting even more people to the issues he has raised and rallying many more people to his cause.

And if you subscribe to Mr. Mask's position that he has really hyped all of this for himself, one could make a case that one of the main reasons he has done so is self-preservation. It's really his best protection against having some black-ops wet team take him out.

Mr mask I dont get why you think that Assange if real and if in possession of governement secerts you find this a threat to America ,

But you dont find the CIA or the current government and its foreign policy a threat to america or its people!

The government should not keep secrets from its people , the same people who put them in power and pay for everything that they use in keeping these secrets.

Your on ATS to search for the truth and deny ignorance , then why do you think its ok for your government to keep secrets from you ?

If anything Assange has already shown through wikileaks the blatant disregard for human life that the US military has in its foreign operations, which amount to war crimes.
That itself is a threat to your country , because a nations military who commits war crimes means that everyone in that nation is responsible for them. As its your taxes that funded the war machine. So your military is a threat to americas people .
