Wait a second, maybe the Bible is a ploy by Satan too

Bwuhahahahaha!!!! I love it... It's funny, a good friend of mine (devout Christian) and I were having a discussion on the bible and I was quoting him a bunch of scriptures showing God's genocidal mania, absolute ignorance of nature and science, constant contradictions almost like someone suffering from multiple personality disorder etcetera, and he came up with the same idea: What if the Bible itself was either written/inspired by or at least horribly twisted and manipulated by The Devil Himself? hahahaha I think we should start getting this idea out there a bit. Maybe then the judeo/christian/islamic sects might disregard all of the evil #ed up # in their "holy" books and only act upon the (minuscule) portions that teach peace, love, and understanding.

The Trinity already doesn't make sense, unless God is Schizophrenic.

And now you're adding the idea that Jesus can separate his body and spirit... so now its a Quadrilogy? Or is it the Holy Spirit that is amongst us and NOT Jesus's spirit? But then is Jesus's spirit merely the Holy Spirit? See how confusing and utterly absurd the whole thing is?

Who are you? Are you your body? Are you your mind? Or are you your spirit (Soul) ? This is the methaphor of the holy trinity. Also believing in the creation does not contradict evolution. I believe evolution is His/her tool of creation. Also the God in the old testament is a different god than the god Jesus spoke of.

Behold! Another Prophet has entered the conversation!

Right on my friend. The light shineth in darkness and the darkness comprehendeth it not!

Look back a page, and you'll see this is exactly where we are at in the party!

God said, here are the herbs that you shall have for meat.

Therefore, I am going to go smoke...uh... eat some uh, meat!

Catch ya'll later,

With Love,

Your Brother

I have read all the articles online, posted on ATS and what not. Some are very convincing. As a faithful Christian I would hate to see that my faith has a lot in common with other faiths. Looks like my worst nightmare has came true. Seeing how the age of the internet has enabled me to see the works of the Epic of Gilgamesh, Sargon of Akkad, and many other similar stories. I got to thinking. Maybe Satan created these stories to discredit Biblical figures before to discredit future generations in think Jesus, Moses, Noah are all copies or just fables.

Satan, who? To assume that Satan created those stories to test your faith or something like that you must first prove that Satan exist. Faith is nice and there is the whole scientific community of religious studies where "faith matters" are discussed. For me, as an agnostic, first you must show me that there is indeed such a being as Satan and a God etc. Fact is the ancient Hebrews did copy a lot from ancient Sumerians and Babylonians, like the Noah Story and the Flood and all that and many more perhaps. I mean, supposedly, the founder of Hebrew, Christian and Muslim religion, Abraham, left that area to settle down in today Palestine or Israel ... If this has some historical fact, besides being a nice myth, Abraham would have brought with him from Ur all that stories ...

Im afraid its not so easy as that...it seems more likely that Satan(if he exists at all) usurped the Roman Church early on and robbed information from earlier history callin it its own...forever catching the uninformed in an endless morass of childish arguments and judgment. I mean look how many murders have been commited in the name of the Roman church...then take it a step further and look at how many murders have been commited in the name of protestant churches (ie Salem with burnings etc..)

No Im pretty sure this mythical Satan fellow has roosted in the Christian churches.

2) Titen-Sxull is an amiable lug, just a bit too fixated on the Old Testament.

Well then, I'd like to quote you something from the new testament:
2 Timothy 3:16
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness

Most Christians will give this same debate when faced with the evils and blatant idiocy of the bible, "oh that's only the old testament, Jesus fulfilled it so we don't have to listen to it any more." To discount the Old Testament is to discount the new. Think about this the next time YOU quote anything from the Old Testament to teach doctrine, reprove someone of their misunderstandings, correct someone else's mistakes, or try to #ing instruct them in "righteousness".
I think that Titen-Sxull has done a very good job of using ALL SCRIPTURE to do just as Timothy said it is useful for. You have been taught doctrine you were not aware of, you have been reproved for your idiocy in believing the doctrine you have been taught previously, your mistakes have been pointed out to you, you may learn "righteousness" by abandoning your mistaken idea that anyone who isn't a Christian isn't just as capable of being "righteous" as you.

I beg to differ!
Satan, if he exists at all, first corrupted the orthodox church, then the catholic and then every other christian cult down to the Phelps and family baptist loonies. The battle was lost early, when it was decided that it was ok to have pictures of saints and Jesus and all that and adore them ... The chism, when Catholicism split from the Orthodox faith was much later ... The battle was lost early, you see! That is if one is to assume that God and Satan exist of course!

The four Gospels about Jesus were all compiled decades after his lifetime, based on what was probably an Aramaic original and a Q (Quelle) source of his sayings and parables. Probably The Didache is the best surviving record of what Jesus actually said and did, although since it does not agree with Paul it was not included in the Bible as it exists now. Many books were not included because they were Gnostic, Arian or Jewish-Christian and so did not conform with the "orthodoxy" of the Church. There were many varieties of Christianity for centuries, not just Paul's version.

Verily my brother!
If ever there was a better symbol of an evil man than Hitler, Saul of Tarsus would be he!
Seriously, from the oldest versions of what might have actually been taught by a possible historical Jesus of Nazareth, we can see a spot on righteous dude (probably a Buddhist hahaha). The guy agrees with all of those who think that the Jewish religion was evil and tried to change it into something far better. Then, you have P/Saul come along and turn it right back around into the disgusting cesspool it was before Jesus got ahold of it. I'm sure there would have been no Catholic Church if it weren't for Paul.

No there is no attempt to destroy the bible, but merely to rewrite it so the modern day human can understand it in our terms, not the primitive terms that were used back in the day, As we know this has cause much confusion upon humans, trying to understand what a primitive person was writing. In actual fact the bible and bibles of others are all correct in there own way. So you see there is no need to destroy it, but merely rewrite it, for the modern age. Take good care

Love and peace

Rick

You mean destroy THE bible. Where is it again?

The bible is ONE book.

No one can destroy an idea that you hold to be true except yourself.

I think you know the answer to your own question. Do you try to destroy ideas of evolution?

the same Paul that stopped murdering jews when He heard the voice of Jesus and called Him Lord? is there something specific either of yall can point out?

Romans-
For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the Jews on behalf of God's truth, to confirm the promises made to the patriarchs

1Corinthians-
Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.

or is it Peter?

Then some of the believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees stood up and said, "The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to obey the law of Moses."

6The apostles and elders met to consider this question. 7After much discussion, Peter got up and addressed them: "Brothers, you know that some time ago God made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe. 8God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us. 9He made no distinction between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith. 10Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of the disciples a yoke that neither we nor our fathers have been able to bear? 11No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are."

Summing it all up. Jesus is the only religious figure who stood out from all the rest. He provide something no other religious figure has offerred before or since.

Also the bible is a book. You can destroy the book but you can't destroy the "Word" as it came via the Spirit and the same Spirit still speaks. Techiclly, if all the Bibles were destroyed, true Christians would stand out from the rest.
ie.. the word is in your heart... not in a book.

Care to elaborate? The Bible never makes the claim that it is talking about different Gods and in fact references to the Old Testament are all over the New Testament so it is clear that both the early Christians and many modern ones believe Jesus WAS talking about the same deity.

Also, the mind-body-spirit trinity has been mentioned to me before. The thing is that the mind is just a chemical electric process created by the function of the brain, so really it is just part of the body not something separate at all. As for the spirit no such thing has ever been demonstrated to even exist and there is no evidence supporting it.

What if the Bible itself was either written/inspired by or at least horribly twisted and manipulated by The Devil Himself? hahahaha I think we should start getting this idea out there a bit.

Thing is spreading the idea that Satan created the Bible just ends up reinforcing the idea that both Satan and God exist and are active in the world. I'd much rather spread a little skepticism. My point was merely that in order for Christians to explain things they don't understand or refuse to look into (such as Evolution) they often resort to calling it Satanic. Rock Music, Dungeons and Dragons, homosexuality, other religions. Really though if God is All Powerful Satan, or anyone else for that matter, can't really act without his allowing us to do so. This is one of my main issues with fundamentalist Christianity... If God truly is All Powerful than he has all responsibility for everything, every action ever taken. Most Christians will claim Free Will allows God to shirk responsibility for how screwed up everything became BUT they forget God is responsible for creating Free Will in the first place. As it says in my signature how can a good God give us free will and then expect us only to use it doing what he wants us to do? That's like giving someone a car as a gift and then limiting them to only driving it to two destinations and if you drive it anywhere other than those two destinations you must be punished severely.

Anyway I've gone off on a tangent, thanks for your reply

Not only were there many similar stories before the bible was written and not only does some of it relate to astrology, but the books that were selected to be in the bible (out of 100's) were chosen by the Roman Empire. The Roman Empire got to choose which book should be a part of the bible and which book shouldn't. Not only that, but the books were altered to fit Roman law.

The old testament was written when Hebrew did not use vowels in writing. Imagine see the phrase " godisnowhere", it could mean "God is no where" or "God is now here", imagine how many different interpretations/conclusions people can come to while translating a holy book written in such a language. Not only that, but the books were hand copied by illiterates.

I'm sure that if the bible was real, it would be more organized. There would be no changing of the words. It would be precise so that people won't mistake the commandments and it would be neat and spaced out so that each word is understood rather than reading "nthbgnngthrwsgd" and guessing it to mean "In the beginning there was God".

Most do not conspire to get rid of the book, I don't, it's very good for historical reasons, but I don't think there is a need to practice what's in it when we have a more liberal government that described in the bible.

Imagine killing your children for disobeying you once?

Or sending an animal to kill a group of children just because they said "baldy"?

Or killing anyone who you SUSPECT is a witch, homosexual, demon, adultery?

Yes, it is in the old testament but it is still part of the collection and thus, it's condoned.

This is kind of long but I hope it gets someone you thinking. Peace!
