OSLO (Reuters) - Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo is tipped to win the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize, according to a leading bookmaker, as the Nobel Committee seeks to restore its authority after criticism of the 2009 pick of U.S. President Barack Obama.
Awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to the foremost organiser for human rights and democracy in China would reaffirm the values held most dearly by mankind, writes Xu Youyu, philosopher, professor at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and holder of the Olof Palme Chair, Sweden for 2001-2002.

Ignorant?
Only an ignorant person would have such a myopic point of view on the subject. You posted a 60 year old report by one source at the time and that is supposed to condemn the whole country and it's entire history?
I noticed how you left out China's not so pleasant treatment of the indigenous populous since their acquisition of the territory.
You can try to paint it anyway you wish.
Doesn't mean the world has to believe it.

Honestly mate. You are wasting your time on here.
You will be argueing till the cows come home.
The Chinese armchair experts in their basements and parent's studies will never know anything other than the one-way propaganda they've been fed.
For a conspiracy site...people like you who proffer the truth...well...just look at the treatment.
Ahhh...never mind..just wanted to to say....it's kind of like a fresh breath of air that someone finally speaks facts and reality as opposed to the CNN/Cramer/American Idol crap most here buy into.
Cheers
Is China campaigning to keep one of its citizens from winning a Nobel Prize?
The past week or so has seen a steady resurgence of speculation that imprisoned Chinese writer and political activist Liu Xiaobo might be short-listed for the Nobel Institute’s Peace Prize. Liu is known for being the principal author of Charter 08, an impassioned petition for democratic reforms that became an underground sensation after it was circulated in December 2008 with the signatures of several respected Chinese intellectuals. Chinese authorities detained Liu at the time of its publication and sentenced him on Christmas Day last year to 11 years in prison for “inciting subversion of state power.”

seriously chinese dictating who gets a nobel peace prize..............hmmm hello? communist!!!!!!!!
According to Nobel's will, the Peace Prize should be awarded to the person who
“ ...shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses"
does china or any citizen there in really follow in the guidelines of that? no.
chinas actions with japan contradict this chinas actions with the us contradict this chinas actions agianst its own people of the past contradict this.
nobel peace prize is the work of promoting peace and if china thinks they deserve one hell just make a knock off

Considering Obama got it after 9 months in office, I really don't think winning a Nobel Peace Prize means all that much any more. China needs to chill and not worry about things as meaningless as this.

Well I hope it does happen, this will show them just how much hot air their tantrums are filled with.
Whatever!

I agree with the poster that said the award was devalued when given to Obama.
Also, it means nothing anyways, absolutely nothing.
