'Any authority' and 'The authority' is nitpicking. I have already answered that question.

'The authority' to create a position within the UN body, is for the member states to decide upon.

Charters get amended all the time. If this position requires an amendment it will be forthcoming.

Patience is a virtue.

It sounds like that's what's going to happen. According to the stories I've posted, her proposals are going to be debated by the UN's scientific advisory panel and then put to the General Assembly.

Mitchell, like you, is free to believe whatever and whoever he wishes. He proclaims no first hand knowledge.

I see no mention of signals having been received. I see no mention of two way communication. I see no mention of an ambassador.

First Contact Coordinator, not ambassador. She's the head of a coordinating committee that involves the space agencies of many countries. This sounds pretty serious to me.

"Renowned physicist Stephen Hawking has repeated his long-held belief that intelligent aliens are likely to exist, and that a visit by them to present-day humanity would probably have unfortunate consequences for us."
--The Register

Now why would Stephen Hawking be concerned about intelligent microbes visiting us? Is he also a quack Phage?

"Professor Hawking said: 'We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn’t want to meet.
'I imagine they might exist in massive ships, having used up all the resources from their home planet.

'Such advanced aliens would perhaps become nomads, looking to conquer and colonise whatever planets they can reach.'"

Hey, Stephen and I agree. I think that intelligent ET's are likely to exist.

Now... How about him claiming or believing they have been or are visiting?

It says so right here.

It also said that on the other links I provided above. You'd better check the Internet on this one, Phage, because it's a major event in world history. She's going to address the Royal Society in the UK about this next week, and that's hardly just the gang down at Joe's Bar and Grill talking about UFO stories. It means something serious is going on.

Now how do you get that job "hey man you know how there might be something out there that could come here? Well, maybe you know I could be the guy waitin for 'em, when they get here I'm sure they'll be happy to work with me."

S&F this is key to disclosure, readiness.

All these people are quacks Phage?

"I've been convinced for a long time that the flying saucers are real and interplanetary. Another words we are being watched by beings from outer space."
--Albert M. Chop, deputy public relations director, National Aeronautics and Space Administration,(NASA) and former United States Air Force spokesman for Project Blue Book.

"Of course it is possible that UFO's really do contain aliens as many people believe, and the Government is hushing it up."
--Professor Stephen Hawking

"Given the millions of billions of Earth-like planets, life elsewhere in the Universe without a doubt, does exist. In the vastness of the Universe we are not alone."
--The Bible According to Albert Einstein

"We must insist upon full access to disks recovered. For instance, in the La case the Army grabbed it and would not let us have it for cursory examination."
--J Edgar Hoover

"I am convinced that these ojects do exist and that they are not manufactured by any nations on earth"
--Air Chief Marshal Lord Dowding (Commander-in-chief, Royal Air Force Fighter Command)

"I can assure you that flying saucers, given that they exist, are not constructed by any power on earth"
--President Harry S. Truman

"The US Airforce assures me that UFO's pose no threat to National Security.."
--President John F Kennedy

"I feel that the Air Force has not been giving out all the available information on the Unidentified Flying Objects. You cannot disregard so many unimpeachable sources."
-- John W. McCormack, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States. January (1965)

"I certainly believe in aliens in space, and that they are indeed visiting our planet. They may not look like us, but I have very strong feelings that they have advanced beyond our mental capabilities."
--Senator Barry Goldwater (1965)
(Retired Air Force Brigadier General and pilot with many decades of flying experience)

And many more WELL KNOWN people claim they are here Phage.

Yes. I am aware of those quotes and many more. Every one is an expression of an opinion (though many are not corroborated). None cites any evidence.

In fairness.....

You really do need to look at every single one of those "statements" in context & in detail.

It's just not as simple as you are trying to make it out to be.

That article states:

''''With a straight face, Othman will tell delegates at the conference that since the discovery of hundreds of planets orbiting other stars makes the discovery of extraterrestrial life likely, an ambassador for alien life forms is essential. Just who will meet the aliens? she'll ask.''''

So there you have it, her reason for creating this job role was based on new planets being discovered which increased the odds of alien life being discovered. In this article she's told us her reasons yet people here are still saying that she's created the job because aliens are visiting.

It says so right here:

Her proposals will eventually reach the UN's General Assembly, which can then amend the Charter, pass resolutions or whatever else might be necessary to make this First Contact Coordinator position official..

It's not so surprising to me, given your stance on topics such as these, that your normally almost fervent and pedantic quest for minute observations of detail, has so far failed to recognize this Freudian nugget, that was included in the quote you have just posted a few minutes ago;

“The continued search for extraterrestrial communication, by several entities, sustains the hope that some day humankind will receive signals from extraterrestrials. When we do, we should have in place a co-ordinated response that takes into account all the sensitivities related to the subject. The UN is a ready-made mechanism for such co-ordination.”

Can you see it now?

"When we do...receive ET communication, is a million miles away from saying "If we receive ET communication.

Did you simply miss the relevance of this choice of words..or are your lofty ideals about upholding the ATS motto of striving to deny ignorance, that you quoted to member 'come clean' only just now, only valid when they suit your argument?

Surely not Phage..please tell me you're completely unbiased in your pursuit of truth and honorable ATS ideals of denying ignorance, and you just simply didn't comprehend the significance?

Hmm?

Why do we as a race need a representative? Seldom in history is there a representative that has the best interests of his/her people as a first priority. Whomever it is will have only one thing on their mind and that is the agenda of the group that appointed them as the rep. This is Gov't 101 and the people making the appointment are not to be trusted AT ALL.

My idea would be to let the visitors come and make the decision for themselves because if they (ET) meet regular people and not the animals in our governmental offices the chances of a peaceful visit is a lot more likely. Guaranteed the second the government gets a chance they will try to capture, extort, exploit and try to steal any technology or knowledge they can get their greasy lil hands on. The worst thing humans could do for this situation is to just let it happen because as soon as the gov't get involved it all goes to hell in a hand basket and no et from anywhere in teh universe will every trust or give humans another chance. We will be known in the universe as the "dishonest" bunch, which is true unfortunately.

Hopefully, the corroboration you speak of will be forthcoming.

I am attempting to contact a well know journalist with The Daily Telegraph asking for sources.

I'll post immediately if i hear anything.
