So the more times a story (identical story) appears, the truer it is?

Please provide a quote from someone in the UN, or anyone, which states an ET ambassador has been or will be appointed.

ATS Team:

Notwithstanding I have not read all commentary in this thread.....

Here's an extract from the very first article posted by SmokingMan2006:

Professor Richard Crowther, an expert in space law and governance at the UK Space Agency and who leads British delegations to the UN on such matters, said: “Othman is absolutely the nearest thing we have to a ‘take me to your leader’ person.”

However, he thinks humanity’s first encounter with any intelligent aliens is more likely to be via radio or light signals from a distant planet than by beings arriving on Earth. And, he suggests, even if we do encounter aliens in the flesh, they are more likely to be microbes than anything intelligent.

Ummm…..

Hellooooo…..

”…more likely to be signals from a distant planet…”

Hellooooo…..

”…more likely to be microbes than anything else…”

What on Earth is all the fuss about?

"Hellooooooo aliens!"

What do you mean you 'Don't know if the UN has any authority'?

197 member countries, agreeing on this, is the authority.

Or are you saying the UN hasn't asked the US humbly for permission?

This story is international. It's not some Sasha F special...mainstream news is covering it, and as you said yourself, Othman is currently head of the UN's Office for Outer Space Affairs (Unoosa).

Do you think the international news service is going to splash this around the world, without even checking the story is legit..?!

As for 'clearing it' with the US contingent of the UN, they may be one of the five permanent members, but they do not run the thing.

There have been a lot of disgruntled rumblings coming from various members countries of the UN in recent years, regarding the US refusal to disclose the secret files they hold on UFO's and ET's.

There was serious talk of forcing their hand, as other countries are rapidly losing patience with the US's secrecy on this issue.

Given those high level mutterings and discontented voices, i doubt they would ask the US permission for the creation of an 'ET ambassador' which for all intents and purposes is what her NEW role would be.
(as opposed to her OLD role in Unoosa).

These alleged "ALIENS" do not need ONE person to represent a planet. Contact has already taken place "drip by drip", vis-a-vis, mano e mano, case by case (or rather) on an individual basis. "ALIENS" are rather too advanced and intelligent to communicate with just ONE person. Why not get to know the planet better via more people? Bah!

Sorry to appear nit-picky...but "mano a mano" means hand to hand; as in personal combat. Are you suggesting that they've already engaged in combat with various humans?

It seems that this could all have been pre scripted.

I didn't say "any authority". I said "authority".

Can you provide me with the section of the UN charter which gives it the authority to appoint a universal ambassador?

Where has she, or anyone, said anything about her new role?

Slowly, slowly catchy monkey MMN, you know the deal mate.

I hardly think the UN would create and appoint an 'ET ambassador' whose focus is on communications signals from ET, if they seriously thought the ET's in question would be 'microbes' do you?

As far as i know, microbes don't use interplanetary or interstellar communications. Even ET microbes.

I don't care Phage. We were having a very nice and quiet discussion until it was interrupted. Everyone knew "first contact" by a skeptic was imminent in here. It always happens and was to be expected. I just care when you claim things can't be because you can't see them. Even though thousands, if not millions, have seen it.

But I do have a question, which I feel is on topic, why do you have to weigh in on all the alien threads? We all know your feelings on the subject. I would think you'd just scroll right over idiotic threads. Wouldn't you feel more intellectually challenged in a brain thread about quantum mechanics or string theories. Why do you waste your time with our silly beliefs?

Did I say beliefs are silly? Can you point me to where I did?

Maybe this will help clarify your concerns about my interest:

The simple yet effective motto of our membership is "deny ignorance", which signifies an effort to apply the principals of critical thought and peer review to the provocative topics covered within. More than a slogan, our members have embraced the motto as our collective cultural standard, demanding all to aspire to a higher standard. These simple two words have galvanized a broad membership that spans the spectrum from highly speculative conspiracy writers to staunch doubters.

Oh i get it...you are not going down quietly..kicking and screaming all the way is it?!

Fair enough..it at least shows consistency.

'Any authority' and 'The authority' is nitpicking. I have already answered that question.

'The authority' to create a position within the UN body, is for the member states to decide upon.

Charters get amended all the time. If this position requires an amendment it will be forthcoming.

As to whether or not she or the UN has confirmed the creation and her acceptance of the role...the silence is deafening, is it not?

Sometimes Phage, believe it or not, more is said, by saying nothing at all.

Patience is a virtue.

According to this news story, she is the UN's designated "first contact coordinator", although they are still working out all the details and it will have to be approved by the General Assembly.

A review...
Here is what Othman said:

“The continued search for extraterrestrial communication, by several entities, sustains the hope that some day humankind will receive signals from extraterrestrials. When we do, we should have in place a co-ordinated response that takes into account all the sensitivities related to the subject. The UN is a ready-made mechanism for such co-ordination.”

I see no mention of signals having been received. I see no mention of two way communication. I see no mention of an ambassador.

"On Monday, six former U.S. Air Force officers and one former enlisted man will break their silence about similar events at the National Press Club, all centering around unidentified flying objects and nuclear missiles. They plan to urge the government to publicly confirm the incidents, stating that they were ordered never to discuss the events."
