On a more serious note. Has it really become that bad back home? My wife is right when she keeps singing the song "England is dying". We were such a proud nation. What has happened? We cannot blame this on imigration, jews or muslims. This seems to be our own fault. We need to regain our national identity. It seems that the British Bulldog has lost its bark.

I mourn, I really do.

Hey I'd just like to add three things I've experienced myself up in Staffordshire when I used to live there.

I got hit in the face while riding the bike by two mid twenties I was passing while I was on the way to the gym. By the time I got out from my bike they were already gone, laughing.

On another trip to the gym I was being bombarded by thrown rocks. There were about 10 kids in highstreet after closing time (where lots of shops are) throwing them at opportune targets.

On both occasions no one did anything. I'm also glad I don't have a German accent, that would make me a huge target no doubt.

Lastly on one night I heard a loud crash from downstairs in my house. I ran down to see if any of my two other housemates had hurt themselves as it sounded pretty hard.

I noticed that I could see the street through my front door. It appeared that some chavs (I would presume) had half kicked in the house door, breaking it. Arming myself with my airsoft rifle, and my housemates with whatever they could find, we called the police.

The police arrived about 2 and a half hours later and said this wasn't uncommon. They then posted a CCTV truck at the end of our road for two days.

It really does suck big time.

It'll be the same wherever you go, mostly overcrowded council estates, children giving birth to more children, white lightning and omega at £2.99 a bottle.

Shameless may be a funny comedy, but there is an element of truth to it.

Forgive my ignorance of the subject but as I read this I am becoming somewhat astounded....

I knew that the UK had stringent anti-gun laws, but am I correct in my reading that carrying any kind of self-defense specific device is also illegal there?

You were saying about sassy wearing her fuehrer outfit.......there is a guy who lives in Whitehaven (8 miles from me, where the Cumbrian shootings happened), he goes about his daily life wearing an authentic SS officers uniform, the full works including cap and red swastika armband. NOBODY says anything to him, which I find weird, I've been tempted to say something nasty to him as its just not right, but I don't, lol.

As an American I can honestly say that I don't even know what to begin to think about that! While I think the US is probably too liberal about weapons, as a former Boy Scout - who has carried a pocket knife for well over 35 years - I'm simply astounded!

The KEY in the UK is to use reasonable force.

If you are in fear of your life or that of a family member,you are fully allowed to defend yourself.

If you carry on bashing a burgular/thug after they pose no further threat/or if you chase them off your property then beat them-thats when the law will bite you.

The important thing to remember is that if someone is threatening your life,or even if you BELIEVE that,you can defend yourself.

A good lawyer would get you out of trouble even if you used some household item to thump someone,so long as the court believes that you were in fear of your life.

I believe chavs to be the hillbillies of England. The sad thing is, they think they are really cool, but no one likes them here in the UK. I hope its just a little phase they are going through!

Very much so, being a gangster is an aspirational path for far too many British kids, whether they are white, black or Asian, the gangster is seen as someone to be respected by many of the under class youth.

I worked as a volunteer with young disadvantaged kids from London. "Gangster" had become a descriptive word for any thing they thought was cool. So if they saw a nice car drive past they would all be going, "that cars Gangster", They would also say "Brap Brap', not totally sure what it meant but was all part of gangster wannabe culture that these kids grow up in.

I'm sorry you had to go through an ordeal like that. It's sad nobody stepped in to help you.

Your post however is brilliant and parts made me laugh out loud.

In my opinion we should bring back the stocks in this country.

Check out an example of the Chav. Look like Children but they would own you if you came across them. This is why I carry a knife. Just in case.

do you think chav's don't exist in Scotland or Wales? i have had problems with these type of people (i live in a deprived area) and they all act like they are the sh*t, i never had any problems, but my cousin started doing drugs and got involved with them, he's 4 years older than me, and he tried turning them on me. never the less, he and 2 others waited for me when i was coming home from school, they all had weapons, but, i decided i needed to do something (they had been harrassing the rest of my family and the police had done nothing), so i beat the living crap out of 2 of them, since one of them stayed put, and since then i've had no more problems.
