Tommorow night is Fedor vs. Henderson.... who ya got?

Forgot all about mma and this fight till I checked this thread. My many pennies are on Fedor, its hard to bet against Fedor. Though I have not watched any mma since I last posted in this thread and cant really say how motivated he is, and if he has fixed the problems that caused him to lose to bigfoot.

Either way I got to go with Fedor, and by domination or ko. If two losses does not light some fire under his ass to get serious and adapt parts of his game and change some things in his style then nothing will.

But since this is mma, you just never know who will win. So we will see.

How bout that Leben KO over Vanderlai?

Hate to say it but the axe murderer might be dead. Vanderlai has not been the same ever since he got lhk'd by cro cop in there last pride fight years ago. After he got ko'd in that fight he has been on the decline slowly with each fight.

And a brawler like leben just has the advantage do to that fact, as can be seen by there fight. Especially since Vanderlai is a brawler as well the stats just stack up against him if he cant take hits no more. He will have to change his entire style to stay competitive which is not an easy thing to do. Hope he gets back in the game but I doupt it, he is one of my favorite fighters out there because the dude always comes to fight no matter what.

Did u guys see the Congo/Barry fight? HERE Very entertaining!

I seen it some weeks ago, and it was just another one of those fights that shows you that you just can never be to cautious and you just never know how it will end.

The whole fight was pretty much Barry winning and almost ko'ing Congo up in-till that last few seconds of the fight when it was light out all do to two punches in the right place at the right time by Congo. And that's why I watch mma you just can never know how the fight will end.

I mean Congo was doing the chicken dance and was on rubbery legs, and when Barry goes in for the kill....Congo throws the old one, two. And its light out for Barry.

Also glad to see Nick Diaz making a return to UFC 137 against GSP!

This is the first I heard that there fighting, it should be an interesting fight.

GSP always plays it safe now a days that he is on top of his weight division, and got famous and is making some serious money the dude just does not take any chances any more. Which makes for boring fights or at least not as entertaining as he used to be.

But a fighter like Nick Diaz should push him and prod him and I don't think GSP will be able to control him with his wrestling and Jujitsu since Diaz is dangerous on the ground. This should be an entertaining fight which could go either way, depending on who plays there cards and game-plans right.

Yeah guys,I definitely thought that Barry vs. Kongo fight had an insane ending,it was very entertaining. And yeah I agree with Galadofwar that Wanderlei is probably done, but one of the most entertaining fighters ever.I never really thought back to that fight he had with Mirko in Pride and yeah he aint been the same since about then,or when Hendo beat him in Pride, good point though. Thanks for the links SpecOptimist,I watched that Kongo-Barry fight again.

But man like SpecOp said,Bigfoot Silva is a beast he has real talent to go along with his freakish size,so I hope Fedor don't draw him again if he gets by Hendo. You guys think maybe Fedor should try and go down to LHW, he's always been a small heavyweight, though I think I remember him saying he would not.

My broham just called with results,Hendo wins, T.K.O. about three minutes of round one.He said it was a very exciting albeit short fight.Good exchanges early,Fedor caught Hendo with a solid punch and knocked him down, then got overzealous looking to finish.Fedor was hovering over Hendo swinging wildly, with no real body control on Henderson.Henderson used Fedor's aggressivness against him,and quickly slipped behind, and rocked Fedor with a big uppercut that likely knocked Fedor out cold, and then finished with solid shots from the behind. Some people at the venue thought it was an early stoppage,I heard different, I was told Fedor's legs clearly went limp on that big uppercut, and then Hendo was landing solid shots from the top, without Fedor defending.

Unfortunately this may be the end of Fedor's legendary career, though I really hope it is not.I thought the loss to Werdum was a bit of an abbiration, however he was beaten thoroughly by BigFoot Silva(who is still underated), and this loss to Henderson.Even though Henderson is a legend in his own right, and in my opinion is one of the top five greatest of all-time,he is really a guy who should be fighting at 185lbs. or 205lbs. (Hendo says 185lbs. is his best weight)For Fedor to lose three fights in a row,and the third to a guy who is quite a bit smaller, may be quite telling, perhaps he could move down to 205lbs. being a small heavyweight.(Fedor has said he will not)

Even if Fedor now retires,he still retires as the greatest heavyweight of all time, this man went undefeated for nearly a decade, and was dominant in a time when the Pride heavyweight division was miles ahead that of the UFC.We will likely never see another fighter dominate the heavyweight division like The Last Emperor did, and he also gave us great, entertaining fights against the best in the world in the Pride heydays.Yes GSP, has been dominant, but nowhere near as entertaining as Fedor,Anderson Silva has been more entertaing than GSP,but I think that division is and has been the weakest in the sport. Therefore Fedor may be the greatest fighter of all time pound for pound,in this young sport.Hopefully the MMA monopoly that Dana White and Zuffa have built will switch their stance and give Fedor the respect and the legend's send off he deserves,if he retires. However with White's reputation as a guy who holds grudges and at times quite petty,Fedor will probably not get the respect he deserves, and as the years go by and the history of the sport progresses,White and the monopoly may try to bury Fedor's legendary career, rather than having him be a beacon of excellence of the past as he should be.

A link to the Fedor fight:Here
Man what a war! Fedor came out blastin' and Hendo returned the destruction! I think Hendo may be one of the hardest hitters in the sport, and even a good chin such as Fedor's couldn't stand the smashes. At first I thought the ref stopped it prematurely but the replay showed he was out for a moment. What a great move by Hendo, grabbing the leg, coming out and delivering a devastating uppercut from underneath. I think it was a fair call, and as Galadof mentioned, in this sport one never knows what the heck may happen. It can/did all end in a moment. I am happy for Hendo and I am not sure what Fedor shall do. I think he's still a good competitor, and it's disenchanting that he lost 3 in a row.

I agree with KS's analogy with Verdum and Bigfoot, and this fight was just a quick display of skills and strength that favored Hendo. I think if they fought again it could just as easily go the other way, but I don't know what Fedor will do. Man he looked in better shape than I have ever seen, but honestly, even though his strikes were/are very hard, I could detect a little loss of luster on them. I think he still has some fights in him, but if he retires, he can do so proudly.

Now I think Bigfoot and Cain Valasquez are the best HW's around, and I'd love to see them fight, too bad they are in different co's. Man I wish the top Ufc guys would fight more throughout the year. They should fight at least 3, if not 4 times a year, but it doesn't happen that way.

Galadof is right about GSP's "safe" playing, and I can't say I blame the man, but yea the excitement is not there anymore. I still think him and A.Silva will fight, and that should be a good battle, and Silva and Diaz would be a good ruckus too! For me there is not much to look forward too other than the Jones/Jackson fight at UFC 135. I look forward to the SF HW competition too, and think Barnett and Bigfoot will be the finalists. I used to be impressed with Overeem, but I think he's packing too much muscle and has lost some agility. He can still knock a mo-fo out, but BF and Barnett are more versed, imo.

To Fedor, salute brother, and thanks for raising the bar in our good sport of MMA!
Thanks for the replies guys too!

peace,

Big MMA fan here. Used to train at Boxing inc with Dominic Cruz and Joey Boom Boom Rivera lol. It was great being the only guy in there at 5:30 am when Dominic opened the gym and I basically got free lessons as I was the only person there for the 5:45 am muay thai/boxing.

I see all the original fights already happened. Anyways I am expecting Fedor to retire after Hendo beat his ass. Third time is the charm, he has nothing to be ashamed of walking away from the sport now.

Welcome to the thread MG, we chime in sporadically these days, but when the goof fights come up, we are here.
Not much to add, you and the rest of us covered it pretty good, but yes Fedor should not hang his head, an something tells me w may see him again, for better or worse, but always a treat. Guess he just had a baby too, so he will either take a break, or continue to be motivated for earnings. We'll see....
Thanks for the reply!

Okay, Silva is the closet thing to B.Lee yet, and I loved the way he kept relaxing and poising himself for a counter. He just made Okami look in a different league. Cannot wait til Sonnen meets Silva again! I think it will be a spectacular show of skill matching! Fight

So I decide to post because I just ran across this press conference explaining Diaz's not showing up.
www.fightvideomma.com...
Nick Diaz is mia and did not show up for the press conference, 3 times, and his manager can't find him either. I think a couple of things are going on. One, too much pressure and media demands(interviews/promotion) for someone that does not like doing that and may be self conscious of his challenged communication abilities. I also recall Diaz being a pothead(for better or worse) and I wonder if he is just puffing and hiding, let his habit get the best of him and not wanting to deal with this situation(reality). I say this because man, here is a fighter's chance of a lifetime, not only personally, but financially too. What gives? Watch the conference to see what I'm talking about, a mystery indeed.

It sounds like Dane may still let him fight, but being a professional, Dana had to have a plan B for GSP, and he chose Carlos Conduit. I really want to see Diaz vs GSP, but Conduit is not a letdown alternative. He is very skileed in all areas, and imo, has a better chance of beating GSP. I will still root for Pierre, but it should be a good fight.

Now BJ has no opponent because he was going to fight Conduit. Sanchez broke his hand and is out now, so I am thinking his opponent, Matt Huges, will fight BJ.

Thoughts?

Haven't seen the fight yet. Silva is good but he really has not faced that stiff of competition to be honest so it makes him look really good. If his weight class was as stacked as the light weights or light heavy's and he looked that good then he would be one of the greatest but I do not see him as one because he has not faced the kind of fighters to prove it. It is not his fault his weight class is full of mediocre fighters, it is what it is. Sonnen is his only competition I see Sonnen beating him next time around but we'll see. Sonnen although not great with the hands has a great old school classic straight right hand that caught Silva a number of times in the last fight. Silva seemed to be blind to it for some reason. That and his hardcore wrestling I think takes it.

I have no clue what's up with Diaze that guy just steps in one cow pie after another he just has a bad attitude. It's too bad as I think he is a good match up with GSP as he is the better boxer and has great BJJ. So is that fight off I have not been keeping up? I don't see Condit having anything for GSP. BJ will murder Hughes again if that happens.

Agreed about the weight class competition for Silva. Perhaps Vitor could still give him problems, if he keeps his chin in and away from an upkick
I wonder if Anderson would consider going back up to 205? Him and Jones would be a masterpiece battle. I think GSP will go up to 185 to challenge Silva too. I bet GSP wants the challenge for the sake of personal challenge if nothing else, plus a belt in a second division.
Sonnen could take Silva, he is strong and very effective with his takedown and g n p, and you are right about Chael's right hand:

Silva seemed to be blind to it for some reason.

But Silva is smart and I would imagine he is focusing heavily on Chael's 2 main weapons. If he is able to neutralize Sonnen, then his offense could devastate. But knowing what is coming, and being able to do something about it, are sometimes 2 different things. But, Silva is just that good, imho.
Another factor that could take Silva to another level is a combination of pride and rage. This is just my opinion, but I think Silva could be pissed because Sonnen badmouthed him, his camp, numerous Brazilian fighters, then the entire country itself. That is enough to infuriate a fighter. Of course then it could go either way, advantage or disadvantage.

Link for news conference.
Condit could be a surprise, he has decent skills and power. Yes my bet would go on GSP for sure though. But hell yea I want(ed) to see Diaz/GSP! I still think it could happen because Dana did not say definitively no. Plus he ain't no fool, he knows there is mega dollars in the fight. This is bad timing too because now UFC is on Fox and has gone mainstream.

ETA: Looks like it will be BJ Penn vs Nick Diaz latimesblogs.latimes.com...
I can dig it

Silva, Barnett and especially Souza vs Rockhold!

Thoughts on tonight's battle Jones vs Rampage? My doe would go on Jones, but I'd like to see Rampage get the belt one more time too. Jones is just a freak specimen and will be hard to beat by anybody for a long while, as he only gets better and bigger. He's only 24, and has nor even peaked yet! At the weigh-ins Rampage looked very slim, and I bet he has worked hard for this fight. Maybe Jones' chin will get tested tonight, and that may be his only weakness, but I kinda doubt it.
I see the fight going to the 2nd round and Jones landing a devastating knee to Rampage.
I hope Koscheck gets spanked and slammed by Hughes, and I'd really like to see Hughes get him in a devastating crucifix position. Nate Diaz and Gomi could be exciting too.

I am pretty pumped for this fight. I don't see Rampage beating Bones but Rampage has a strange confidence I have not seen in him in a long time so anything is possible. Rampage has the better hands but he will have a hard time getting inside Bones reach and Bones speed and timing is scary fast and accurate. Rampage has always been susceptible to leg kicks and if he clinches up Bones will take him down right from the clinch like he has always done even to decorated wrestlers and the last thing you want is Bones on top of you dropping those deadly elbows...

How do you train for Bones? I mean who has Rampage been sparring with to try and mimic Bones style? Congo? He has the height but to much of an orthodox kick boxer IMO. But I guess he could try and mimic Jones spinning elbows and flying knees but how abut the his Greco Roman take downs from the clinch? Maybe Randy Couture?

I don't see Hughes beating Koscheck in fact I think Koscheck will knock him out. Hughes boxing is piss poor and I don't see him getting Kos down But you never know. I don't like either of them so I don't care who wins... Lol

I think Diaz is going to WORK Gomi, but I have been wrong in the past.

I am so upset that Dana called the Nick Diaz vs. St Pierre fight.

Condit is always game so more props to him, I hope he pulls it off.

Bones man, idk . . . I have stopped throwing out predictions for most fights because I stopped enjoying them.

Lets go!

Yep Bones is the future, right now! I'd like to see him and Chael one day maybe, but I can't think if too many 205 er's left to offer a fight. Shogun would bring a better fight than his first display I bet.
Yea, Hughes is done, but I loved that GSP long jab he had for a minute or two. Kos still didn't know what to do with it! haha

There's something i don\t like about Bones...He pisses me off. Looks like he fractured his foot as well.

As for Matt yeah he's old and needs to retire, Diaz threw some serious punches he's really improved over the years.

Now to the serious question: TUF 14: How freaking tall are those guys? It's like watching a bunch of midgets...

I like Bones he speaks English well doesn't try to fake being all gangster and is smart and can kick ass. Perhaps he doesn't fit the mold of somes expectations of an MMA champion. In an ESPN interview with him and Jackson day before the fight he was calm relaxed and cool while Jackson seemed rattled. Also he snubbed the phoney Steven attention whore Segal so he gets mad props for that in my book!

Don't have time right now to watch the vids but thanks sp, looks like I missed more then a couple of fights and need to catch up.

Looks like he fractured his foot as well.

I wonder if it was from all those pesky side foot jabs he kept throwing at Rampages shin and knee? Those could do some damage, but I could see a fractured foot from it too.

Diaz threw some serious punches he's really improved over the years.

Yea Diaz is a well rounded fighter with experience too, and a chin, so he will always be good competition.

Now to the serious question: TUF 14: How freaking tall are those guys? It's like watching a bunch of midgets

No doubt huh? Man those dudes are little firecrackers though and I have never seen so many opening fights be such battles, those guys bring it! I am glad ufc brought those 2 divisions on board.
