I have wondered the same thing some time ago DD, because where there is money and man, there could always be persuasion that bypasses genuine ability. I think any competitive sport could have this happen, not all the time, but as an exception sometimes. Two things could happen, an individual fighter could be approached to throw a fight in return for al lot of dough or even a threat from a mobster or something, in order to capitalize on the odds, or the co(UFC) could sway a fight in order to further promote big money making matches. Let's say 2 big time fighters fight for the second time, maybe an win for the opponent who lost the first time, would guarantee a big 3rd fight.
I may be reaching here, but I know money talks at times. I believe if "fixing" does occur, it is very rare.

spec

ETA: Hell I forgot that a ref could be influenced too by an outside source. What if someone offered them a hundred grand to do so? Could that not compromise one's integrity potentially, as an exception of course.

In all sports there is that element of fixing them.

In boxing its kind of obvious, not that its rigged which some are no doubt. But some match ups are so mismatched and so much in favor of one guy sometimes no matter what the promos tell you that it might as well be fixed. Even in games such as football and soccer there is some fixing going on no doubt.

Basically were there is large sums of money being made, there is an element of fraud or fixing going on.

Tough I don't think lesnar threw the fight...And really he would of made way more money if he won then if he threw the fight...Plus mma fighters compared to the other sports have not reached the kind of money that some of those guys make, so the greed effect has not set in yet.

Really I could see it happening once in a while, but pretty much everybody who is there is there to win and for the competition...And if there not, then really there in the wrong place and should quit and go play ping pong, or tennis, or basketball or something.

Because if your not serious you will end up face first on the canvas and who knows what other damages, its a sport were you in it for the long haul and serious or your not going to be in it at all. For the majority of fights I dont see it happening but if it happens it would not surprise me.

And for the judges or the refs I dont know, I suppose it can happen...God knows that in some fights i was like WTF who judges this #..Or WTF was that ref thinking stopping it so early...But for the refs I think it was just the heat of the moment...And for the judges, well most of them dont know that much about mma or what they do know of fighting is what they seen on tv or in other combat sports. Which does not translate well to judging a real fight or mma.

Overeem did a simple little trick that kept Brock from shooting. I did not really notice it till it was pointed out to me either. When ever he clinched up or was moving in on Brock he did not come in throwing combos. He either went for wrist control under hooks or the plumb (Muay Thai Clinch). Brock was waiting for those famous Overeem hooks and combos to duck under and shoot. Instead he got grappling defensive moves with deadly knees mostly.

At one point he has a right under hook and left hand up on the neck in half clinch and fires several knees. This controls Brock from Shooting puts him inside his reach nullifying punching power and prevents the take down and open Brock to those devastating knees. Eventually he lands the liver kick and its all over soon after.

Overreems plumb and knees are nasty, K1 outlawed the plumb because Overeems was so nasty. He was effing guys up with those knees. He is strong enough he controlled Lesner with it too and you could see lesner wince when those knees hit him.

Cerrone Diaz was awesome. Diaz got in Cerrones head and made him fight his fight.

Hettes is a bad ass. I love it when the skinny nerdy kid puts a one sided beat down on the favorite. I had picked Nam to win cause I did not know who Hettes was. Boy was I wrong LOL.

Poor Fitch he just got caught with a big overhand left. I felt kind of bad for him. He'll be back

i read cyborg got busted for steroids. that chick is way to ripped. Her sheer size and power had me wondering about her for the longest time, the way she just dominated other fighters.

what a beast

its crazy to see what "winny" can do for a females body, you are able to see such a huge difference compared to her other competitors. I read that the difference is more dramatic in a females body than a males, meaning sometimes you cant tell when a male is doing it, but you sure as hell will when a female is

Yea man, she is a beast for sure, and I have often thought her abilities were too great to be considered fair in women's fighting, because she hits like a friggin dude!! She was already a female fighting prodigy, I just wonder how much of it was/is natural talent verses supplemental tampering. That poor Japanese girl looks like she got her face broke.

I am surprised there has not been other freak of nature she-men competing? Surely she is not the only she-man fighter out there, and only another like her could compete against her with any chance of winning.

Can you imagine being Cyborg's ole man? I think I would lose attraction for her cuz she is just too manly, but hey, maybe some guys dig that.

Someone commented on one of the MMA forums that it looked like a guy beating his wife... Essentially she was a man hormonally and muscularly and of course it showed. So her fights were total mismatches. Gina is the real champ.

Well last night was not a disappointment! Man, Palhares is just a leg destroyer to the max! So much that I think his technique and tactic scare opponents before they even start fighting. He sets out to do damage too, not just a tap, but he wants to break something, and usually does!

Vitor looked good and I hope to see him continue with his success. Even his short punches have power. How bout that Rio crowd, that was crazy! I sure hope Chael and Silva fight in Brazil!!

Erick Silva is one to watch imo. He is so good at such a young age and is training with some elite fighters! It's too bad he got disqualified, and I counted 2 hits to the back of the head, but in the heat of the moment, I can see the ref doing what he did. However, in this day and age, the sport should utilize instant replay for final judgement, because I think Mario had some reservation after watching the vid. Anyway, Silva is going to be a force in the future, with a well rounded game and super athleticism!

Barboza, wow! He's another great up and comer, with a well rounded game. Like Rogan says, the 2 kicks from TKD that can/do work in MMA is the spinning back/side kick, and the spinning wheel kick. That was a picture perfect kick that KO'd Etim upon impact. I thin that kick is most effective later i a fight , when the opponent is more tired or relaxed, making them more susceptible to the kick.

Aldo is just awesome and has so few weaknesses. Unlike his last fight, he looked totally prepared and ready for this fight. DId you see him shaking at ringside? So much energy ready for target. Love his kicks too man! 21 and 1 speaks volumes about this dude, and I always look forward to his fights! The one dude that I think will be a greta match for him is Gilbert Melendez, who I think is now in UGC from SF. He is another almost perfect fighter, aggressive and highly skilled.

yup pretty good card!t

Aldo is a beast, luv to watch that guy fight. Just watching his leg kicks im like holy crap. Guess he was a pretty good soccer soccer player before turning mma which gives him alot of eye-foot coordination, and he really drives the hips, ouch!

I was hoping for mendez to take him down so i could see aldo use his jiu jitsu but the ko was good to see.

Man those brazillians in the crowd really get into it, not really like america where the crowd is pretty divided, you could hear those guys singing and chanting the whole time; just like MLS, I love that. Then aldo runs in the crowd and the SHTF! crowd goes nutz

There have been alot of good fights these past couple months with the fighters going all out in every weight class, it makes me think that it must be putting alot of pressure in GSP to finish a fight and not LNP. wanna see some action

Ran across this vid in a forum some of you might dig.

Maricio "Shogun" Rua vs."Cyborg" Santos

Can't believe Rua didn't snap Santos arm at 5:05, or his leg at 6:05

Just read Munoz is out with injury so they are going to put Bisbing in to fight Chael Sonnen.

Source
Does anyone else here think this is kind of weak? I don't think Bisbing even belongs amongst the caliber of mma fighters today. And surely they could have come up with a stronger opponent for Chael! How bout Cung Le or Leben? Anyway, I bet Sonnen dominates Bisbing and gets a first round ground-n-pound stoppage.

yah i dunnno man, thats what i mean, maybe some matches are set up for certain outcomes. Looks to me like theyʻre securing the silva/sonnen fight. I think bisping is gonna get smashed

I mean its fine with me, cuz iʻm hoping chael will take the belt

Yea I like Chael too these days, and certainly know he has the skills to be a champion. Man I can't wait to see him and Anderson bang it out! I think Sonnen could easily make 205 too, and give Bones a run for the belt as well.
I wish GSP would step up to 185 also, just for a good mix.

Hell yeah!

I am a huge MMA fan and love to talk about it, almost more than conspiracies.

I usually visit another forum to get my MMA talk out, as it is hard to find anyone the doesn't think UFC = MMA, but now that I know this exists, that's awesome.

Thanks for giving me the link Spec, I'll be sure to keep up and add input.

I very rarely miss a card. No I take it back, I don't think I have ever missed one.

I do not watch any other sports so this is my only vice, watched the first with my uncle when I was younger and never stopped watching.

I have and always will think Pride > UFC, and was a huge Pride supporter. I like their rules better and during the run of competition I always thought the Pride boys would kill the UFC ones.

Anyway, thanks again for the link. I'll be back.

Welcome predator0187, always glad to find commonalities with members here! Not sure what mma forums ya ike, but I follow these 2. Fightvid has the fights shortly after the event, although resolution is challenging, for free I can't complain too much. Anyhoo, thanks for chiming in man.

No problem!

I usually rent the fights or just download them, they are available right after the PPV ends. I am to picky about resolution to watch any streams or anything, I usually prefer HD. Sometimes, like the Dream fights you have no choice but to download.

This year is going to be a great year of fights. UFC will eventually shut down Strikeforce this year because they are taking all their talent, Overeem is in UFC and his next fight he will be champion and the UFC is back in Japan.

The Diaz/Condit fight will be awesome and same with the Sonnen/Bisping fight. Although I think Sonnen will win, I hate them both so I wish it was a double KO.

You are right about this year going to be a great one, heck it already has in a sense! Let me give you a heads up Spoiler Alert, cuz some of us post right after the actual fight, and others a day or two later. Yea, HD is a much better experience for sure.

I hate them both so I wish it was a double KO.

touche', but at least Sonnen talks the talk and walks the walk. Can't wait to see him and Silva again!
