Seriously, if they indeed fired shots before landing on deck, they were warning shots.
It makes sense, the ship was repeatedly requested to stop and it did not.
The defiance warranted a 'wake up' call as I see it from the IDF point of view.
So therefore they fired warning shots.
A reporter with the pan-Arab satellite channel Al-Jazeera, who was sailing on the Turkish ship leading the flotilla, said the Israelis fired at the vessel before boarding it, wounding the captain.
“These savages are killing people here, please help,” a Turkish television reporter said.
The broadcast ended with a voice shouting in Hebrew, “Everybody shut up!”

'Next time we'll use more force'

Navy prepares for expected arrival of 2 more activist ships.

Israel will use more aggressive force in the future to prevent ships from breaking the sea blockade on the Gaza Strip, a top Navy commander told The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday.
"We boarded the ship and were attacked as if it was a war," the officer said. "That will mean that we will have to come prepared in the future as if it was a war."
The anonymous comment came the day after the Israeli Navy raided a flotilla of international aid ships headed to the Strip. Nine activists were killed in the raid, and dozens were injured.
The flotilla which arrived late Sunday night was comprised of six ships, and another two ships, including The Rachel Corrie, were expected to attempt to enter Israeli waters in the coming days.
Greta Berlin of the Free Gaza Movement said earlier Tuesday that a cargo boat was already on the way to challenge Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip.
A second boat carrying about three dozen passengers was expected to join the first, she added.

It has already been stated that they were carrying 'live round' backup hand guns.
When they were given permission to use lethal force if their lives depended on it, they drew their handguns and eliminated their attempted killers.
Captain Huseyin Tokalak said the Israeli Navy had threatened to sink his ship, Gazze, before Israeli commandos took over the vessel at gun point, the Reuters news agency reported.
"They pointed two guns to the head of each of us," Tokalak told a news conference on Tuesday. "They were really interesting guns, like the ones you see in the movies."

Thanks for the link soleprobe,
Mostly what I heard though was a woman hell bent on an anti-Israel rant to the point where the interviewer has to remind her to get back on topic.
You're welcome Skellon
Enjoyed the interview myself.... the CBC audience rarely get to hear that particular angle on things.
I notice many folks who are staunch supporters of the State of Israel seem to use the word "anti" a lot towards those who see things differently about Israel (i.e. anti-Israel or anti-Semitic). Let's say someone disagrees with Turkey but I agree with Turkey... should I call that person who disagrees with Turkey an "anti-Turkey" or an anti-Turkish? Imagine if all folks were labeled “anti” for every nation that they disagreed with? You’d have to put “anti” in front of the name of every nation on earth.

I do not disagree with the label of Zionist.
My frustration arrises when I am debating this issue at length with many posters that see the Arab-Israeli conflict as black and white.
To see such a historically complex situation as black and white rather than grey is not to understand it or shows they are not aware of the history of this difficult situation.
There is no 'innocent' party in this protracted conflict and yet the arguments that I respond to are heavily one sided without room for flexibility.

Israeli forces kill three Palestinians
Tue, 01 Jun 2010 13:47:54 GMT
The Israeli military has killed at least three Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, a day after Israeli commandos killed 20 activists aboard six aid ships in international waters.
Medics in Gaza announced that the Palestinians were killed in northern parts of the strip on Tuesday, AFP reported.
The head of Gaza emergency services, Muawiya Hassanein, said the bodies were taken to a morgue in Gaza City.
Earlier in the day, Israeli forces killed two other Palestinians in Khan Younis.
The Israeli aggression against Palestinians comes one day after a raid on the Freedom Flotilla in international waters of the Mediterranean Sea, some 150km (90 miles) off the coast of Gaza.
The bloody assault, carried out by Israeli naval commandos, left at least 20 people dead and dozens others wounded, provoking angry protests by governments, organizations and people across the world.

3 terrorists killed in Gaza airstrike
By ASSOCIATED PRESS AND JPOST.COM STAFF 06/01/2010 17:17
Islamic Jihad says fighters shot down after firing Kassam rocket.
An Islamic militant group in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday said three of its members had been killed in an Israeli airstrike in northern Gaza.
The Iranian-backed Islamic Jihad group said its fighters were killed shortly after firing two rockets into southern Israel. Israeli authorities said the rockets landed in open areas and caused no injuries.
The IDF confirmed it had carried out an airstrike Tuesday, and Gaza's chief medical examiner said there were three deaths.
Tensions have been high since Israeli naval commandos boarded a flotilla carrying hundreds of pro-Palestinian activists to Gaza on Monday, causing a violent clash. Nine activists were said to have been killed in the incident, and several IDF commandos were wounded.
Earlier on Tuesday, two would-be Palestinian terrorists were killed on the Gaza border as the IDF foiled an infiltration attempt. No casualties were reported among the troops.
"Two Palestinian terrorists were identified infiltrating into Israel from the southern Gaza Strip earlier this morning. The soldiers on the scene exchanged fire with the terrorists, killing them both," the IDF Spokesperson said of the event in a statement released later in the day.
Two AK-47 rifles, ten magazines and five grenades were found on the infiltrators' bodies.

Was it not already established earlier in this thread that the captain was shot after they boarded?
Will have to review the thread yet again....
I have read articles that state that there were warning shots fired, others on this thread have also quoted sources as stating there were 'warning shots' fired.

It reminds me of Mohammed Al Sahaf back in 2003 when the coalition was steam rolling its way into Iraqs capital with little resistance;
A little comedy for you there.
