Thankyou for bringing this to my attention.

You can clearly see that these men are unarmed. WTF?
Those children in the front seat were lucky they weren't killed as well.

This is terrible.

Why do so many innocent people die in the wars of America? Why would you defend those casualties as collateral? Why are so many American soldiers coming home mentally crushed?

Why is America building so much for Iraq?
Here's one I can answer!
Because you blew the # out of it in the first place!

Iraq will become a poster child for occupation! Like when creating a soldier first you must break them in order to rebuild them!
Iraq will be rebuilt just the way America needs it!

We are not coming home crushed because of things we did, we are coming home with PTSD because of them.

Lets say your driving down the road to patrol a nearby village when all of a sudden the HMMV infront of you blows up, you pull over and try to find targets to engage. After the scene is secured you try and help the wounded, and you see your buddies all blown to bits, blood covering everything, an arm lying in the dirt road next to the carnage.
Or you are on your off time at the local installation and an IDF mortar (IDF means In Direct Fire) lands near your hooch or pod. And all you see is people blown the F up. People don't realize that they constantly almost EVERY day mortar and launch rockets at our bases injuring a lot of people per year.

I bet you don't hear how most places there are no schools, so we build them and then the terrorists blow them up. Same with the paved roads.

We do not go out with intentions of getting KILLS or KILLING we go out on patrols to ensure that the civilians of Iraq are ok and the terrorists are not taking over their villages. We engage only we engaged upon, now with this being said, yes there are cases when morons do open fire on innocents but that doesn't speak for the military as a whole. This video was and is justified. Like I have said MANY MANY times the insurgents will PAY people with cameras and recorders to show them how they are fighting for the people even though they are not. Why do you think that there are so many videos of Americans getting shot by snipers and getting blown up by IEDs? Do you really think that most of the insurgents who are VERY poor can afford a camcorder? People like you need to get all the facts before making Anti-American statements like this. Yea maybe we are over there for oil and for our benefit, but there is nothing that we can do about that. We are simply soldiers sent to Iraq to protect civilians and protect each other. In the video people did have AKs and atleast one RPG and where planning to shoot American soldiers. If he had a camera I am sorry but that "lens" is freaking huge when he is peeking around that corner. The soldiers flying the helo in the video can see A LOT better than what the video shows. MAybe you should join the military and go to Iraq so you can see how it really is, then maybe you would not defend the people trying to kill us. Yea collateral damage is a btch, it happens. Hell in Vietnam we would bomb whole villages and in WW2 we would bomb whole cities. The people of Iraq do not like these insurgents and just want to live their lives, despite what you think and know our elections there are going good and the Iraqis' are doing their part because they are no longer afraid of these insurgents.

One thing the video does show, without any doubt is a couple of heroes. You know the 2 men that got out of that van to rescue the wounded journalist. Those men risked and lost their lives while trying to save another. There is no greater act of selflessness. Take a good look all you wannabes. That's what REAL heroism looks like. Those men had no armor, no guns, no UAV, no titanium bathtub to protect them. Just a strong personal fortitude.
In addition to reparations for their families, those men deserve medals.

I'm getting a little tired of people turning this video leak into an excuse to rally against the US population and the Soldiers. Thanks for pointing out that these boys have every reason to be a little more willing to engage a target that poses any sort of a threat. Seeing your buddies dying all around you constantly will make that happen. I think these 'ol boys broke some rules with shooting the van, but to go and paint every member of the military as a blood lusting, child raping, psycho is just begging to be called an ignorant jerk.

Heroic, maybe, smart? Hell no. Driving into a blood bath with your children in the front seat before the dust even settles is a really REALLY bad idea.

Am I late to the party, so many responded to this thread, here is my take on it. The vid can be interpreted from both sides. If it's news to you welcome two 8 years ago when this got started by bush/cheyne and the others that profit from it, hopefully ill see you in the present, one day.
and war sucks especially if you're on the losing side, I wouldn't recommend it.

Also, I feel the reason this was "leaked" footage could give the Pentagon to restrict the Press even more in war zones.

Correct. Why are they there? So they can take a picture and publish it, and talk bad about the military, and show Americans back home, and drum up support for anti-war protests, and brainwash you, and work towards their own world domination. They want to tell you to stay out of their world domination struggle.

I am going to go out on a limb and make the assumption that you are referring to me. I am not a troll, and most certainly do have a heart. I also have a brain, which very few in this thread seem to be able to claim. I'm not all weepy because this stuff is commonplace. I am disgusted by the acts, but also by the many ignorant comments I have seen. As for my 'hawking' the thread, I will pay attention to, and reply to whatever I see fit, and I would ask you to mind your own business or reply to some of my points so that we may have a discussion.

1 i want to see the complete unedited video.
2 how these people even peaked the interest of the pilot and gunner
3. no press markings
4. theres a apache ah-64 circling overhead you and you crouch behind a building? theres no way you wouldnt hear it.
5. then group up
6. the pilot and gunner did act on command authority
7. were there were troops in the area receiving fire or ?
8. the van with the kids? not arguing them getting hurt is bad but as a parent im in a war zone and i see or hear a gunship overhead my first thought would be to immediately leave the area. no markings as a press vehicle?
9. as journalists do they not have a responsibilty to notify the military where they are going to be at any given time to make sure to dont die.

theres alot of unknowns here and to bash and hate is not a wise thing to do until you know..

stop the us military hating and theres alot of it in this thread.
they are the reason why you can sit there and hate.

[edit on 6-4-2010 by neo96]

Exactly. This thread is about hating America. This thread is about wanting U.S. troops out of the Middle East because there are people that fear a strong U.S. presence in that location. They want to bad mouth America and build resistance and protest among the youth of America. Nobody with any sense, and the ability to control their emotions, can honestly say that war is bad and we should all stop making war. War is good. War is what allows freedoms. War will never stop. If you think war will stop, then you put down your guns, and you'll find out that the war will come to you... and you'll be the loser. THAT is what our enemies want.

I don't agree with this comment about the troops shouldn't be trigger happy.
I definitely want a winner on my side, and if he is happy to kill then so be it.
In fact, the guys that get the most thrill out of it are the most competitive and the most effective.
Remember, they are there risking their life for you life.
They do a hell of a job.

Oh, heh, good. Well whether his little tantrum was directed at myself or another, he needs to lay off. We all may share our opinions here, and he is more than welcome to join. Though I would not want to see his feelers broken.

I wish I'd have actually seen something new here....

This video is the same as hundreds of other "Guncam" vids floating around the internet and the fact that people are debating whether it's cameras/RPG's/ AK's in the hands of the victims means that the Helo crew were probably justified (under their ROE standing orders; not necessarily morally) in firing.

If you can't even sit in the quiet, controlled, comfort of your own home and specifically say there was no preceived threat then you can't hold some young man in a combat scenario (who is ultimately responsible for the lives and safety of his advancing comrades) liable for such a mistake.

Get appauled at the policy makers that believe conventional troops with conventional training are suitable for insurgency wars; not the troops themselves.

Agreed they are doing a good job. We need to remember they do not make the policy they just enforce it. If you have problem with the wars dont blame them do what I do and blame the real people with power. And this also goes for cops and FBI and CIA agents they are doing a good job.

We must but the blame were it should be.

Watched the coverage on France24 this morning.

France24

Then flicked through the various news channels to see if anyone else was covering it,,,,

FOX had Glenn Beck yapping on about something unimportant,,

CNN had Tiger Woods yapping on about how sorry he is,,

BBC NEWS had some lovely story about the upcoming election,,

And before i switched off France24 had breaking news about 5 bombs that had just exploded in Baghdad.....

Amazing where the priorities lie.
