2012 can't come soon enough! Humanity sucks! The world is falling apart.......if it takes mother nature and a rash of complete and utter destruction to topple 21st century society and evil tyrannical governments so be it!

maybe the world and human beings will realize there are more important things in this world than Iphones, healthcare, and the war on terrorism!

Humanity is killing mother earth....and she WILL cleanse herself as needed! It's not like we don't deserve it!

I'm with you dude!! We (as a race) need something to wake us up.......

Actually, I remember seeing film of Iceland being active on the volcanic front, it was maybe in the 70's. I'm also pretty sure it's common up there.

On a different tangent, maybe HAAAAAAAARP triggered the eruptions? After all, the Icelandic's were very naughty when they refused to repay the criminal -'elitist'- banking cartel, were they not?

And on yet another tangent... Exactly how many volcano's have 'come to life' since the LHC went up to it's, "highest peak" as mentioned in the link below?

www.abovetopsecret.com...

Anyway, nothing more to see here folks, move along... move along...

chills is right. I just made a comment on the glacier/volcano thread about expecting to see an increase in volcanic/eq activity. This ee,s to be a trend.

In light of this....I'm hoping there is someone that can take a look at this seismo and say wether or not this is just wind? It's a current seismo (10:45 pm west coast time) of Mt. St. Helens.

How many volcanos are normally active there? I mean, are these volcanos that haven't errupted for some time? Scary stuff...

Yup it's wind. That instrument is only set on 100 micro volts so everything will look a bit large!

Earthquakes and volcanoes are nothing new. They have been happening since the dawn of time. They go through periods of increased activity for a few decades from time to time. It is natural geology not doomsday.

Iceland... it is called Surtsey. It was not there, then in 1963 a new volcano under the sea began and today there is a nice island full of plant and animal life. People forget so quickly, or choose to ignore the facts.

Indonesia has a long history of severe volcanic eruptions. Krakatoa is a famous one, and not the biggest explosion to happen there. I will be going back to Indonesia later this year. I am not at all worried about it and I can't wait till 2012 comes and goes so that the timid whiners will finally shut up. No . . . I realize that they will just latch onto some other date and begin to complain again.

Can we start a list of ATS members who promote 2012 as the end of the world, then ban them once 2012 has passed? Or at least mark their Avatars with a big Gullible stamp so people know to ignore their predictions? Perhaps the doomsday folk will band together and jump into a volcano when their predictions fail. We can only hope as it is such a waste of energy. They could be working towards solutions to the problems we face, instead of constantly whining and predicting doom.

earthquakes have been around for millions of years, why is everyone treating it as if these occurances have never happened before!?

keep up the good work. So nice to see a young lady with her head firmly attached and not freaking out all over the place.

I have to say that as regards this report I have not been able to find anything in the more reputable institutions that confirms this.

Volcano report from USGS
John Search

What I am saying is that this report was in a newspaper and does not seem to be echoed in scientific circles.

Seeing as Iceland is entirely a Volcanic Island, I reckon the odds are good that sometime or other another volcano within the 10-years since the last one would blow its top (which was Grimsvotn for reference in 98.)

And even then since the 1900's and 1998 11 Volcanoes have erupted, mainly Fissure eruptions, in that timespan. Iceland is predominantly Volcanic in creation, and will always continue to be. Not as VEI6+ Vesuvius style-eruptions, although Stratovolcanoes do dot the skyline, but the main Central Volcanic Systems are the most active with Fissure eruptions.

For goodness sake calm down. Iceland has been a very active volcanic area since I was a lad and that is some time ago believe me. I remember Surtsey Island forming back in the 1960s. It was fascinating, but I also have to say that because the reports were on British TV in impeccable BBC English, and in the (then) oh so proper British newspapers no one got in the least bit hyped up about it.

The internet has not necessarily done peoples peace of mind any favours.

LOL, tell that to the victims of volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, asteroids, and all other karmic/nature related disasters. Tell that to the dinosaurs, ha.

Like what happened to the dinosaurs, it's entirely possible that mother nature is getting ready to kick these horrible destructive and flesh and blood thirsty hewmons off the planet too. My intuition tells me THAT is exactly what is going down. What does your intuition tell you? I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling doomsday is approaching.
I see 11/11 ( as in November 2011 .. when an asteroid arrives to help bust open all those volcanoes !! anyone else figure out what 11/11 might mean instead? ).

Enjoy what little time there is left, earthlings. The end is near. Bye bye, hewmons, bye bye. Good riddance!

The most shocking part of your post was that I mis-read the word suit and it read a lot more sinister...

a fat man in a little slut!

oO

So, I just wish all these things would hurry up and get on with it, so we know where we stand... or don't stand if that is the case... For those of us always reading the news but never in these things, tensions can get frustrating.

Not that *I* want it, well, sort of... but that if it's going to happen, GET ON WITH IT ALREADY !!!

I'll see if I can find any more on this.

edit= Actually, there are a number of other sources for this. Just Google Indonesia Volcanoes on alert.

Bandung (ANTARA News) -- "Some 17 of the 18 volcanoes in Indonesia are declared to be on alert status (level II), based on the result of monitoring by the Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation Center (PVMBG) of the Geological Agency."

The center that is supposed to have given the alert on 17 volcanoes does not appear to have anything on ot's cached pages and it's home page apparently does not exist!

I still say that this view of panic is NOT reflected in the volcanism community. I am sorry but I do not have any faith in the rantings of the MSM.

As far as I can see most of your so called results in the Google search are quoting the same as the OP.

Does anybody else feel like this is just the beginning of a really long crazy roller coaster ride? I can't shake this feeling lately, and this just adds to it. I am in a geologically stable area, I wonder when we will start feeling quakes. I'm not kidding. I think it will come to that.

It should also be reiterated that the statement "17 of 18 volcanoes" makes no sense. There are many more than 18 volcanoes in Indonesia.

The information may have been coming from this site. But there doesn't seem to be anything particularly serious listed for Indonesia.

Humans are certainly interesting creatures.

I guess we can add the 2012 doomers vs. the blah blah blah crowd, to the never ending us vs them debate.

Previous entries include

Republicans vs. Democrats
Religion vs. Atheism
Creationism vs. Evolution
UFO believers vs. Skeptics

now we can add

2012 crowd vs. skeptics?

What would be interesting to see, is if there is a common thread through all of these. Like.......

A person who is an atheist is also a democrat and an evolutionist that does not believe in Aliens/UFO's. Perhaps this same person is also skeptical of 2012 doom.

Sorry for getting off topic...........

This news is interesting in light of all the other news regarding natural earth events. On one hand I can't help but think it is purely a reporting
effect. Our ability to report such incidents and communicate it instantly on a global scale. Giving the appearance of increased events.

On the other hand, It just "feels" like these events are an ominous omen of things to come.

I unfortunately feel the roller coaster ride, too -- and I am not particularly subscribed to 2012 theories. I am aware that things are coming to a head politically and economically worldwide, however, and that life as many of us knew it will never be the same. The earthquakes and other "natural" disasters just add to that feeling for me.

I am not particularly sad to see the fall of the capitalist house of cards in the US, but it is not the people responsible who are getting hurt... it is the average person who has been struggling all along.

I also wish that if the ____ is heading for the fan, it would just go ahead and happen. If it isn't, I'd love to see some possibility for positive change.
