UPI: Seventeen Indonesia volcanoes on alert

BANDUNG, Indonesia, March 19 (UPI) -- Seventeen of 18 volcanoes in Indonesia are on alert status and emitting toxic gas, a federal monitoring agency said.

Wow, this just sent chills up my spine. I don't even know what to say right now, but that my prayers are with all those who are being affected or threatened by all this.

2012 can't come soon enough! Humanity sucks! The world is falling apart.......if it takes mother nature and a rash of complete and utter destruction to topple 21st century society and evil tyrannical governments so be it!

maybe the world and human beings will realize there are more important things in this world than Iphones, healthcare, and the war on terrorism!

Humanity is killing mother earth....and she WILL cleanse herself as needed! It's not like we don't deserve it!

chills is right. I just made a comment on the glacier/volcano thread about expecting to see an increase in volcanic/eq activity. This ee,s to be a trend.

In light of this....I'm hoping there is someone that can take a look at this seismo and say wether or not this is just wind? It's a current seismo (10:45 pm west coast time) of Mt. St. Helens.

How many volcanos are normally active there? I mean, are these volcanos that haven't errupted for some time? Scary stuff...

While I agree that humanity is probably getting what it deserves, I do hope you get banned for saying that, or at the very least, that your post is deleted. You do realize you are talking about real people here, right, and not abstract concepts?

I looked at it. I don't know how to read siesmograph data, but it sure looks freaky. Phage should take a look at it.

It is getting windy here on the west coast right now, so I am hoping that it's just wind. That is kinda a noisy station and I don't see anything notable on any other stations for Helens, so while it doesn't look like typical wind noise to my untrained eye, it most likely is!

I know nothing about interpreting seismic data but I do know that Indonesian volcanoes are in a pretty much constant state of activity. I also know that there are a lot more than 18 volcanoes there. There are at least 35 active volcanoes on Sumatra alone.

still, maybe if we throw a certain pessimistic somebody into one of those volcanoes we may satisfy mother earths yearning for a burning... for now.

Wow, if your concept of the greater good is the earth being ripped apart, wars breaking out everywhere and most of the population dying, I would hate to talk to you on one of your bad days!

I agree that some things suck right now, but your life is still what you make it. You could turn off the TV, turn off your cell phone and just concentrate on your own family and local community if you are fed up with the rest of the world. I believe our lives are only what we make them and it sounds like yours must be pretty darn depressing. Sorry to hear that.

Since I'm living a relative stones throw from where you speak off and having experienced and witnessed the events of December 2004 first hand, I find your post and tone rather objectionable.

This thread is intended to be informative and constructive. Please keep your negative perspective on life and humanity in general to yourself and out of this thread.

Indeed...but it wont be a load of "cobwobbles" when events like this, and the recent earthquake events keep happening. It's already becoming obvious isn't it? Can you feel it yet, because you will. Anyone can say all this recent activity is just coincidence, and totally natural...but as these events keep unfolding, and become progressively worse, there will be a point where only someone in total denial still wont accept the truth...but I wonder when this point will be, and will it be too late when people actually start to pay attention to these warnings?

earthquakes have been around for millions of years, why is everyone treating it as if these occurances have never happened before!?
