Yes.
Earthquakes will keep happening and volcanoes will keep erupting. When a strong earthquake hits in a region with a large population property will be destroyed and it's likely people will die. The same is true of a volcanic eruption.

So has it been. So it shall be.
So what else is new?

LOL, I couldn't agree more. Say, have you heard about asteroid 2005 YU55 arriving in November 2011 (11/11)? Word is it could either hit the earth or the moon. We'll know more next month, unless they lie to us, ha. I wonder which would be worse, it hitting the earth, or the moon? I wish I knew which one to wish for.

earthquakes have been around for millions of years, why is everyone treating it as if these occurances have never happened before!?
As I said, volcanoes and earthquakes are perfectly natural, and have happened before...but my point seems to have been lost...it's the regularity of these events, and the increase of these events as we get closer to 2012. It isn't hard to see some sort of external forces are putting stress on the Earth and things are happening...and it will only become more obvious as we draw closer to 2012...until we reach a point where skeptics will no longer be able to say, "It's perfectly natural, and this wave of natural disasters in such a short period of time is merely coincidence, furthermore, we have the ability to monitor and report more of these occurrences then we ever could before"...that explanation will be rendered obsolete and incorrect in due time...

Yeah...I'm not disagreeing with you there...

Volcanic eruptions are a hard thing to quantify. We haven't, until fairly recently (with the help of satellites), been able to know when they occurred in remote areas. There is also the matter of volcanoes that are in an ongoing eruptive state (Kilauea has been erupting for more than 25 years now). How do you account for those?

Earthquakes are easier but up until about 100 years ago we had the same problem with identifying them.

So the answer is; I don't know about the past few hundred years. In the past 100 years earthquake intensity and frequency has been about the same with maybe a bit less activity in the past 10 or 20 years. Volcanoes? I don't think there has been much change but it is almost impossible to really tell.

Here's a link showing earthquake data from 1863 to the present. Quakes over 6.99 have increased dramatically.

www.earth.webecs.co.uk...

DATES FROM & TO PERIOD NO. EARTHQUAKES (Mag. > 6.99)

1863 to 1900 - 12
1901 to 1938 - 53
1939 to 1976 - 71

The data may simply be reflecting our ability to record/monitor earthquakes better and more accurately

Innocent people die. that's life. It's called reality. and the greater good!

Perhaps if sad and disillusioned people like yourself were to perish suddenly in natural disaster or war, we could define it as cleaning of the Earth to remove pathetic people.

I was on Bromo twenty years ago and again a few weeks ago...
...and nothing seems to have changed to me.

I thought active volcanoes were always on alert.

No. That data uses this list as it's source:
earthquake.usgs.gov...

Selected earthquakes of general historic interest.

It is not a complete list and the selection criteria are not specified. It is useless for statistical purposes.

See my post below for the corrected chart.

well, I think u are a little too far from the average box we all live in

you cant say its the humanity's fault for everything; the reality is that a few smart people, since the beginning, are manipulating every living thing in this planet; using religion, wars, terror, controlling the media, ads and many other strategies to profit from our lives;

we live in a world where at every place you look at you learn the wrong thing, so, its not like a person who doesnt have a high IQ or access to alternative information will be able to figure it out by its own

so, stop trying to make everyone look like criminals, the reality is that we live in a hollywood movie, everything is scripted, everything is about $$

but I agree, nothing is going to change until some major disaster happens thought the earth or aliens, or something else big that I cant think right now

The data I graphed is for 7.0 and greater. Here is the database:
earthquake.usgs.gov...
There was a spike in the 70's through early 90's.

As I explained, the list you used is incomplete.

Wait a minute. I just noticed something. I'll fix it.

Gotta fix it anyway:
For data from 1973 to 2009 I used this (1973 is as early as it goes):
earthquake.usgs.gov...

For data from 1900 to 1972 I used this:
1900

Here is the chart for earthquakes of 7.0 and greater:
