So just an FYI, I have some real-time seismo stations pulled up on GEE and I have seen a few micro quakes in Puget sound the past 10 minutes or so. Nothing big, but interesting.

You can go HERE for some great interactive stations.

If you pull up A04D, you can see the quakes I am looking at.

Also, one of the best ones (it seems) for along the Coast of Oregon is NEWO. It is a bit of a mess.

Also -- as usual -- there is no waveform data being released by USGS for any of the quakes in that particular region.

Hmm, funny because I am looking at the wave data right now in GEE for the 5.0 from station US.NLWA- and that's the USGS's own top tier seismic network. They may have not released it in the FORM you are accustomed to, but the wave data is available to any who truly seek it. You can get it on the IRIS Bud system for most any station virtually anywhere.

But why bother unless you are prepping spectrographs and need the actual seed data? GEE is an amazing tool, and goes way beyond simply connecting in the real time viewer to stations for "near live" earthquake watching. It can do a whole bunch more. It is a great tool for a beginner wanting to learn more bout how earthquakes are monitored and plotted.

I'm picking up a small quake with the station I have pulled up on the coast of Oregon. Not much, but probably enough to make the local list at some point today. (around a 1.5)

Dang...something big coming in right now. Looks distant, so I am going to guess it is possibly originating out in the same area of the swarm.

Looks around a 2.5 or so local....not sure how it will translate out though. Stay tuned....

ETA: So I'm looking at the stations and I think it is looking strongest at the one in the puget sound, but is still not really local to it, so I don't know. Nothing so far on USGS.

Also of note: My bigger dog that is sensitive to fault quakes started growling right before it showed up. My ears are popping right now. He is pacing now....

Maybe I have missed this in a previous post but is this activity normal? Can you look back at previous seismic information and see how this recent activity relates? I would think this much activity would get some press coverage. I live in the northwest at sea level and have been noticing my ears popping and strange pressure changes, similar to when going up to the mountains. Very noticeable. weird.

Another BIG quake just happened....my dogs barked, my daughter heard a big bang....and the siesmo is going crazy.

Off shore....will update with USGS

ETA: Wow.......really? Am I seeing the results of the 7.2 in Japan? I dunno if there is that much of a coincidence or not....

Looks like the P wave from it, nothing else showing yet unless it was just something local

Trying to understand the fear this must
put upon you,. being in a tectonic area
I have to say,. I wish I lived there,.
The few quakes I have experienced I Really enjoyed

well this is a big one, i posted on the fracking thread a while back before the one hit in NZ. That for 2 days before it happened that the house was creaking and poping like popcorn. it has been doing that all day here again and now a 7 in japan. I wonder if the whole plate is moving.. I live on the eastern side of the cascades. At the foots of the solid rock mountians.

Well, I tell you my nerves are getting frayed. I have several west coast stations pulled up and have been monitoring them due to the off shore oregon quakes. My dog had just notified me of two smaller quakes (barked 2 minutes before they happened)

So when they started barking and my daughter heard something, first thing I did was look at the computer. When I saw the initiall S waves, they looked very similar to what the bigger ones off Oregon looked like last night so I thought for sure it was near here.

Ugh! I hope they are okay over there. The signature is HUGE.

yea hope theres no tsunami (says no warning issued) my daughter is at her moms for till after spring break (sedro wooly) little scary i will admit. The mountians are waiking up, big movement offshore (new volcano) I can feel the preasure building it seems. Oh well if worse comes to worse i like deer meat lol.

Well, I have been holding my breath here this past day to see what was going to happen. All these quakes in Japan and now starting up again in Arkansas is not helping my nerves any.

So, all our micro quake activity has fallen WAY off...which you might think would make me feel better. But it doesn't. Now we have had this quake:

Topo map centered at earthquake (This link takes you offsite).

It is tiny. However, look at the location and then look at the depth. You can do that HERE

Go to the 'plot by' and select the depth buble. You will notice it is the deepest quake on the map. I do not think this is typical. Could it be in the subducting plates? They have theorized recently that the subduction zone is actually much closer inland than once thought....about 30 miles west of seattle. Hmmmmm....let's wait and see what happens. *sigh*

Well, looks like I am getting some TINY stirrings on the San Andreas. Only seen two, but it looks seismic. Very small. Monitor BK.SAO

Might be a while before you see anything. Then again- it might not.

okay, thanks.

My poor little dog is still acting freaked out. It has been over two hours since I played the recording though. She has never been this upset for so long. Now I feel really bad...or else she is picking up on something real.

I'll pull up the station.

ETA: sorry, to those not reading the other, current EQ threads. I did an experiment with my EQ sensitive dog and she freaked out (just like she does with a real one) while listening to a recording of a seismo from Arkansas. I recorded it and posted it on the arkansas threads.

Hope all stays quiet tonight.

So is it possible my dog was picking up on this? I just have such a bad feeling about it. Watching our region very closely.....Tsunami??

I know. I had posted just a little bit before that on the arkansas thread that I had a really bad sense of doom come over me tonight and I was afraid something was going to happen.

I still have the feeling...I think this is all far from over.

ETA: I still have a lot of pressure in my head and my ears are ringing non-stop

So I was up on mt. pillchuck a few weeks ago and came across a spot on the ground in a small clearing that was about the size of my living room, that had no snow on it and had steam rising from it. Im pretty sure it had nothing to do with the sun as it was snowing at the time. it was probably just a hot spring. I keep thinking I am feeling slight tremors, I never think to check my watch however when they occur. So I have nothing to compare to any of the various seismic charts.
I think your theory has something to it. As I type this I am watching CNN cover the earthquake in japan. I don't think we can afford to deny something is happening much longer. Maybe Im wrong but it sure seems like world wide we are seeing considerably more strong earthquakes than normal. Then again maybe Im just now paying attention?

Hmm, I'd keep an eye on it. But honestly I don't have enough experience monitoring those particular seismos to make a judgement call. In fact, you'd be better at that. All I can tell you for the moment, sorry.

Let me start by saying that all of Japan is in my prayers. I am in no way trying to sensantionalize what has happened, but in light of some information I think it imperative to discuss this.

It is being reported that the whole island of Honshu moved EIGHT FEET TO THE EAST.

Also:

Friday's quake caused a rupture 186 miles long and 93 miles wide in the sea floor 80 miles off the eastern coast of Japan. It happened 15 miles beneath the sea floor.

SOURCE

93 miles wide??? moving a whole island 8 feet? How could this NOT impact our own subducting plate?

I have to leave for awhile, but will investigate this further when I get back....God, I hope this over. I just really fear that it isn't.
