Seriously what is everyone getting excited about? "Oh noes its the end of the world. Tragically some hundreds have died in Chili and that is terrible but this sort of stuff happens and quite frankly in the grand scheme of things this has been incredibly light hitting.

Just looking now at Hawaii and its a total non-event.

im from santiago, chile. the earthquake was intense, but the majority of the buildings are made to resist quakes, because we are a country with history in these events.

I know people who live near Vina Del Mar / Renaca. I am unable to reach them. Do you know what the situation is like in that area?

I thought they would have better simulation models and systems to predict those things.

But as I see we have not anything yet.

According to the Energy minister, 20% of the houses in the capital do not have electricity back yet, and in some areas it reaches almost 40%, so it's natural that some communications are not working yet.

A 4.4 earthquake in Oklahoma is definitely random, but it's probably just a coincidence. If a major earthquake is going to hit anywhere in the US, it'll be in California.

That was a 7.3 that struck Japan's Ryukyu Islands on Friday.
Still, a lot of activity around the Pacific rim.
