The upper middle class has had a slight uprise in taxes. The FICA maximum has been rising annually and so people who make between $102K and $106K or so pay more in social security taxes (and so do their employers). Goes up every year - it's akin to a small tax increase if you fall into that range this year.

What would be nice to see is a reasonable tax increase for upper incomes - maybe a new bracket. Many who make those incomes do so at the expense of low wage earners - so paying more taxes (to me) is a viable tax increase. CEO to regular worker pay scale differences are at the highest ratio ever these days.

Alright. Let's calm down and look for solutions and not our emotions get in the way. I believe you mean well - independence of self, something that I would advocate too in these troubling times or we will all starve, sooner or later.

Either we hang together as one or we will surely be hung one by one, goes a famous saying by our founding fathers.

There is only our divergence, and that lies in the way you are blaming the people whom are victims of a problem that is not of their making, and the govt to keep a hands off approach.

As for corporate fault, there is no denying of such truth and waste time over it.

A few may be lazy, but never all of them today, unless you can provide empirical figures to support your claim.

As for govt intervention, you had forgotten what the sacred vote was for; otherwise we would have lived on an island of our own. We and our forefathers work and share our efforts to build up America to what it is together today, through our elected representatives.

We, as members of our society have that responsibility. It is our only home, as least for the majority whom loves America.

None of us could have done it alone, even to provide education for ourselves. We need teachers and facilities. It came from others - your family, your relatives, friends and mine.

Now that woe had befallen upon us today, we can only look upon each other for help. No one else will help us. Will you lend us all a hand, listen to our woes with an open mind and open eyes, to see what needs to be done besides struggling on our own that may not be enough?

I humbly apologize sincerely if I had raised that anger in you that may had cloud your judgment, but I do believe you still have a common sense of human decency left in you to care, don't you?

Calm down, cool down, hate me if you wish, but do give a chance to consider my post, not in haste, but in contemplation. It is not for me, as I am neither in debt nor out of work, but for the many others in society whom are unemployed and hurting. They are fellow humans too, and not lazy as you sadly presumed.

This is for those that think people collecting unemployment are just being lazy. Just in case you have been in a hole for the last couple of years try to understand this, there are jobs out there the problem is that for every job hiring there are six people applying for that same job. Do the math and tell me how people who are looking for jobs are just being lazy for the small amount of money they recieve in unemployment. This is really hurting every unemployed worker out there. People have used up all their life savings and 401k plans just to survive. What will these people do when it is time to retire and should be enjoying the rest of their lives. Oh thats right they will have to work because they don't have any money for retirement. I live right outside of Atlanta,Ga. and the job market is very slim to none. I want to work but if I did not recieve unemployment I would not have money for gas or a place to live. Trust me if you do not have a place to live it is even more difficult to find a job. Show me a company that will hire a homeless person and you will have my full attention.I know that when it is time for me to retire I am basically screwed because social security will probably be a thing of the past and having too use all the life savings i had been saving toward retirement really hits hard. Unemployed people just want to survive. SO before you start blaming the unemployed you should walk a mile in their shoes and you will see the way we have to live. Just to make things worse try being a person that has a criminal record for something they did ten years ago and the job market just got even harder for them. Until you go through the problems of being unemployed you really don't have a valid opinion on renewing the unemployment insurance.
In fact why don't you stop getting a paycheck for a couple of months and then your argument will mean something. So until then get your heads out of yor asses and return to the real world.

My point is, there are bigger things to worry about than your unemployment benefits. This hood-ornament president and his band of merry thieves is digging a hole so deep that your great grandchildren will have bleeding fingers trying to crawl out of it.

Wise up. Get a job. You're not so "proud" that you can't wash a dish, my boy.

What the hell does this have to do with Obama? I didn't see you screaming about the 100's of billions we are spending this year on war alone. I don't see you bitching about billions of aid to Israel.

You brought it up pal. This didn't have anything to do with Obama...which by the way...is doing a terrible job.

But good job trying to change the topic.

BTW...I have a job.

Are you or are you not promoting confiscation of the value of others for your own purposes? Do you or do you not support the govt in extorting the wealth of the public for whatever reason it deems necessary?

Confiscation of wealth? These people have been paying taxes their entire lives. As far as I'm concerned they are getting it back.

And please...go on about how corporate welfare, BS wars, and bailouts angers you as well.

Please....Mr. Righteous. Where were you the last umpteen years people have been drawing unemployment?

You are as shallow as mud puddle....and your argument has about as much depth.

Dude, Miss, it, whatever, You must fo shizzle be siamese twins, because you go in opposite directions at the same time, and at light speed!! You have issues with unemployemnt but are employed. You hate corporations but give zero and govt a pass. You want to spend money that doesnt exist. You dislike those that have more than you. Man etc, I'm really being a prick to your ego today. Youre even reacting to the truth and evidence of it just like our annointed halfrican in chief. I suspect I'm getting the finger as your reading this...

Maybe you might understand things this way. People who recieve unemployment help put money back into the economy, but if they do not have money to spend then they will not have the money to put back into the economy and where does that put us.Thats right it puts us in an even bigger recession, because if people do not buy the goods the companies that produce the goods will have to lay people off or even close since they are not making the money anymore. Then we have even more unemployed and it just gets harder and harder to get those jobs back.

What planet are you on? What master pan do you have part in? YOU are a prole, a nobody, you are an expendable feeder fish in a bucket. So am I.
You dont matter to those in power as long as you play the game. Nor do I unless I decide to change that status.
A mans job is to deal effectively with reality, and when successful enough, change it for the better using wise understanding of the rules of nature and man, if possible. You are stuck on some videogame planet where you push a button and someone gives a $hit. For the time being, nobody cares what you do as long as you make your payment like the toady you are. I'm not gonna play fantasy what-if games with you and accept your fantasy premise where everything you suggest is magicly wonderful. In real life, being at the tip of the spear of change means that you'll not likely be at the victory party, and you really want to be at any party no matter what your position, dont you? That's why you're on both sides of every issue. A man who believes in everything believes in nothing

So, shouldn't the above post be on the BTS site? Unless of course you can post some actual middle class tax cuts enacted by Obama.

President Obama’s budget seeks an end to tax break for the middle class

Grappling to contain record deficits, President Barack Obama is seeking to end a middle-class tax break he once said would be permanent.

The $3.8 trillion budget request rolled out by the White House on Monday would renew the Making Work Pay tax credit for fiscal 2011, but then would have it sunset.

That’s a switch from last year, when Obama’s budget called for making the tax credit permanent.

Ask and ye shall recieve (a tax cut)

Your words...do you wish to eat them with or without a side of bitter resignation?

TAX SAVINGS
How households may fare under the economic recovery plan.
Income Avg. tax savings Drop in tax bite
Under $19K $476 -95%
$19K-$38K $652 -22%
$38K-$66K $781 -9%
$66K-$112K $1,301 -7.5%
$112K-$161K $2,549 -8.3%
$161K-$227K $3,883 -8.3%
$227K-$603K $5,133 -5.7%
$2.8M plus $39,350 -1.4%

add- incidently, I am in favor of a rollback of the taxbreaks for low/middle class to 90s levels. I thought bush lost his damn mind when he gave a unsustainable tax break just when we were starting to get a handle on the debt.

I know my part of the debt, I feel its the duty of all us citizens to chip in and get it under control. The middle can live with an extra 500-1000 a year less when spread out over a year...It sucks, I wish it would rain gold eternally, but it wont, and the people need to realize this. Either we accept a bit of a tax hike, dont allow politicians to sell us on tax breaks, but dont let them soak us either. I think a straight across the board for all income brackets of about 20% would be just fine, be it you make 20m a year, or 2000$ a year...and we spend only 2/3rds of that back on social programs like military and such. This is not that difficult.

just my theory...the one thing I like about the republicans pretend plans is the across the board tax rate..that makes sense.

I dont need to refute the link you provided because it shows no broken promises.

He is going to cut out the cap/trade tax break for the middle, but not the overall tax break.

so, instead of getting a break of say, 40 bucks per paycheck in taxes, you will get a break of 30 bucks...its still a tax break...

read the article and not just the sensational headline.

as far as something more current...what, you want a new tax break every month? get real.

So, wouldn't that be a $10 increase in current day taxes when he promised not one single dime of increase? I think the sensationalism is somewhere else also.

No...it would represent a 30 buck savings from the previous administration.

Are you not following this or just really bad at math...

you pay 100 bucks under GWB
Obama comes in, year 1, you pay 60 bucks, year 2 you pay 60 bucks, year 3 you pay 70 bucks...your still paying less than the 100, and thats what he said.
if you were paying $99.99 on year 3, your still with a tax cut from the original tax he spoke about.

get over it...just admit that your numbers are incorrect but you still dont like the guy because he is a kenyan muslim antichrist maoist stalinist yadda yadda yadda and let this thread get back on topic.
