I do not condone violence, I do however understand the desire to rid the region of the Imperialists. It is a matter of national security for them as well as a matter of sovereignty. If the UK wants to be greedy it will cost them dearly.

You sound like a school boy! ... Imperialists! ... Puleeeese!

3000 settlers that never conquered ANYBODY and THEY have a right to security and sovereignty too my friend.

Finally - How can you give something BACK to someone that never owned something in the first place?

I REALLY need to hear your answer to this one!

My first time here...

Sorry my posts anger you. It's just my opinion, and I will not change it to make you feel more comfortable.

But feel free to try and convince me of your argument... sulking away with your tail between your legs does nothing to help in understanding.

Argentina claimed the Islands when they were taken over, they couldn't do anything about it then because yes, the IMPERIALISTS were hell bent on taking over the world back then and might does not make right even if it was almost 200 years ago.

And Argentina did have control of the Islands back in 1816....

There is a British response, rumoured, to be drafted up in the next few days.

Apparently, it will originated in the European Union-seeing the EU is also classified as European territory. Britain could now block Brazil's campaign for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.

And, not forgetting, the South American debt that is controlled by European Banks and the European controlled IMF.

Let's hope it doesn't come to more than a reasonably strongly worded statement (in diplomatic terms)

The last thing any of us want is innocent citizens suffering because of the bluster and short sightedness of a few idiots who think they are more powerfull than they actually are...

Argentina, may require access to the IMF liquidity line too (reported last year) and it is still a concern.

Britain, like the situation with Iceland, could block any move.

Actually might did make right back then. That's what imperialism is. That's NOT what we're talking about here. We have a self determined people that wish to remain British. Simple as that. It's like Aruba, a protectorate of The Netherlands. Who do the Dutch give that island back to even though they are completely happy to be part of the Dutch community?

I understand.

Many people die for what they believe..... I wish them well where ever history drops them.

The UK has given up many of its claims on other ill gotten lands. If they want to spend the billions it will cost in materials and logistics to defend the Islands again for these 3000 people when they are standing on the edge of economic ruin, that is their choice.

Why does the average Brit care about these Islands on the other side of the globe anyway? Is it a pride thing? Patriotism? It seems illogical to go through all this for a mere 3000 settlers. My high school was bigger.

But we all know its not about the 3000 people there, Its about having a military presence on that part of the world.

The FO have released a statement suggested the mediation is already in place for talks-over oil. It's up to Argentina if they wish to discuss oil, sovereignty is not up for discussion though.

However the Falklanders want to be British. Do they have no say in their own destiny?

And, it's not just about oil.

The Ascension Island, another British colony, is believed to have even greater amount of oil and gas. St Helena and Ascension Island are off the coast of Africa (well, Middle of the Atlantic)

Not sure when drilling starts there.

We can get our oil else where, too.

It's about controlling 60 billion barrels of black gold old boy.
Lets say oil prices will be around 100$ a barrel by the time it starts flowing.
Do the maths.
We could do with the money.
And that will pay off our government debts, allow the government to slash taxes and still pay a kings ransome in profits.
Finders keepers, losers weepers.
Don't cry for me Argentina.

"Hmmm, six trillion bucks, lovely jubbly rodders."
"This time next year Rodney we'll be millionaires."
Well not quite, but we will have substantial amounts of government debt paid off, probable tax cuts and a definate continuation of our AAA credit rating.
So you see there are two reasons for the UK to defend its territory,
1,The altruistic defence of our citizens in the Falklands who have "chosen" to be part of the UK.
2,The financial rewards that will benefit all UK citizens either directly or indirectly through the exploitation of the oil reserves.

OM NOM NOM NOM NOM !

That will be the sound of the British oil rig's as they gobble it up.

I am a proud English ex service man and i do not care one bit about Argentina or any other backward bannana nation that wants to jump on the bandwagon.

Take care.
