"It is claimed to 99.9% all species that have ever lived are now extinct.
"
Well : if you take in consideration that "evolution" does not mean "extinction" you got less than 99.99%.

You must count the number of "evolution" , not the number of being living now compared to the death.

Evolution is complex : an entity ( or even a system ) complexify itself : but sometimes it become like a cristal.

I mean for the example : the gap and protection betwean species is relativelly young : you, we : our ancestor : have got child with at leat one chimp. One mutated or evoluted being (human) have #ed with a chimp.

Now there is a genetic protection that protect, and define what a species is.

In fact you could not define clearly what was a species before that evolution.

Awesome post buddy well done. S&F

i see this topic has been derailed significantly so lets get the train wreck back on track shall we.

Survival is indeed the key and it seems TPTB have "their" survival in the bag so to speak. they are either subhuman or have dropped into such levels of debauchery that the well being of the common man is of no consequence. They wont advance terre forming or any other tech that will empower the common man.

that is why you will never see free energy or cheap medicines that will cure all diseases and viruses. you will only have the option of buying these things for a lot of money.

this is the Elites form of natural selection. obviously there is nothing natural about it.

What they have managed to do is create a system where the devious and corrupt succeed in life. They use money and power as means of maintaining this system and in order to climb the ranks you have to play the game they way THEY want you to.

Religion was created so the the common man getting the shaft would look to the divine to punish these elite overlords. But in reality it is the very same overlords that control mainstream religion, media and pretty much anything thats mainstream.

So what can we do? well get off our asses for one and make a change, but we wont. We want someone else to do it. thats right lets pick one guy and make him do everything and lets call him our leader. We can drop suggestions and he can pick out the majority suggestions and go with that.

does the cycle sound familiar.... yes unfortunately putting our power in someone else's hands is a guaranteed recipe for disaster. no one person should hold that much power. the ego is a power junkie and once it gets a taste for it its all over red rover.

so in closing how can we advance our evolution to a stage where we can attain immortality? a very good question here is another question.

Is humanity deserving of immortality????????? i look around and i wonder........

good thread man keep it up

Maybe we're supposed to become so green and ethical that we all decide to stop reproducing because it's dirty and we're a virus and as a result we wipe out our own race leaving the "poor" earth to recover, and all our souls forever free from the cycle of incarnation...

^ I'm not sure I believe that's the way to success but I BET you there are people that do...

Great thread!! Star and flag...

As for your question...

What should be an intelligent species main goal?

Balance..(next to continuation of the species, but that is a no-brainer)

Peace

well that is one way but i believe the OP was about attaining immortality so as to further the human race so we dont get relegated to a stain on the jocks of the earth.

We have the intelligence creativity and drive to do virtually anything we want all we need as a race is focus. So the question the OP is asking is why arent we focusing on the most logical thing that we as a species should be doing? trying to assure the future of humanity.

digging holes in the earth is only a temporary solution. no matter how deep you go it wont protect us when the sun goes nova.

If we dont get off planet and off solarsystem we will be extinct. That is as simple a fact as they come.

Hello Mouldy,
I believe all advanced species would eventually face many of the same problems as us. If humans didn't advance it might be the lizard man. We are not a virus. I agree that we should be concentrating on our survival and other life on this planet. A truly advanced species would not live on the surface. They would want to be concealed and protected. We should be able to live on the bottom of the ocean and underground. Eventually, I believe, a planet with life will produce an advanced species. The ultimate goal of life would be to survive and replicate. When life is mature on a planet it will try to spread life to nearby planets and moons. You can say we are a young adolescent trying to spread the seed. The fact that we exist may be a sign that there is a very highly intelligent civilization nearby.

I really like this thread.

But I do not know how to answer this one really, I just cannot comprehend the ramifications because I know so little of this Universe.

I really do not know. You got me.

Tough Q.

If you guys/gals figure that out, make sure to let me know.

I won't hold my breath though.

To evolve in harmony with Nature.

There is 'law' and there is human natural law.

The latter was burned in stone.

It is much older and wiser counsel.

Forms Are to worlds..... as words are to volumes of A form.
There are not enough words to accurately describe a form.

I agree with you on that, it's always easier to let someone else do the job. But if we keep on thinking that someone will eventually do something, nothing will ever happen. I guess most of us who do want to act don't know where to start from, or are afraid to do so. And a leader is needed or else you'll just get a bunch of people, each with their own idea, who will eventually start fighting amongst themselves. Maybe when something really big happens (that affects all humankind) we might get off our asses and work together to do something. Until then, who knows?

Anyways, back to the main topic. Humans are intelligent, they can do many amazing things, you just have to look around you, but it's just that they're focusing their attention on the wrong things. I think we should work on finding a way to colonize other planets, I mean the universe is such a big place and we are stuck on one planet, and our population keeps getting bigger and bigger, and eventually we're going to run out of resources to maintaing a healthy lifestyle.

Unfortunately, humans have more important problems (like who's got the biggest and better country, who has the best weapons, the most money, power, who's religion is better, what should I cook for dinner, watch on tv, etc. etc. ->I'm not saying that we don't have important problems that need to be fixed, all I'm saying is that some of them are really trivial and insignificant when you look at the bigger picture).

Define a Intelligent Organism please. lol.

I don't get the meaning of that one after all I suppose.

Wouldn't all organisms alive be "Intelligent" since they are still alive and hence survived?

And those that are extinct would be the "Non-Intelligent"?

Which way are we defining/quantifying this?

Are we equating "Intelligent" to organisms that utilize "technology"? And what makes this feature "smarter" than an organism that does not utilize technology to achieve it's survival?

I suppose we could consider "all features of an organism" as equating to "technology" , like a tooth, it has a purpose that it fulfills for the other parts of the organism. Is this also a type of "technology"? If so than all organisms are composed of nothing but "technology"?

So wouldn't this make all Surviving and Extinct organisms "Intelligent" ?

This question is exceptionally difficult because of these and tons of other problems.

as human beings are just another animal and not the divine beings most us want to believe, we will probably also go the way of the Dodo.

Our intelligence has brought us even more greater ways of killing one another, biological weapons nuclear weapons etc. never before has a species created such weapons that can destroy the entire species. Our species operates by the richest 2% owning 50% of the worlds wealth
ttp://www.metrics2.com/blog/2006/12/05/richest_2_own_half_world_wealth_bottom_50_own_1_un.htmlur

I see no real sign as an intelligent species as a whole

I wish we were an intelligent species , but we're a long way off.

Yes, I see your point, it's my bad. Defining why a species is intelligent and why another is not is hard. Lets just say that in my case I was only referring to species that have the capability to evolve using the resources around them (it doesn't matter if they evolve through technology, physically or even spiritually). Other species on this planet are intelligent too, but it's just in a different way, and on a different level. Well, I don't think this answers your question completely, but I hope it helps even if only a little.

Also it doesn't mean that we're not intelligent if we are violent, develop nuclear weapons and kill each other. We, as any other species have instincts, and we have a hard time controlling them(is what I like to think), or worse, many have come to believe that humans are superior to any other species because of their intelligence and now they think that they can do whatever they can, whey they can, with little or no consequences (...and now they have a hard time letting go of their need for power).

Good question, thanks for the opportunity to provide a single phrase answer.

1- To Do No Harm !

Follow that single rule and I dont see where things could go wrong.

Why we dont do it?
As a species, we are ignorant, (true meaning of the word) to the influences around us and remain controlled by our emotional/intelligence imbalance and retardation.

An intelligent species' main goal should be to never overestimate its own intelligence.

Hey all, i joined this little party late so sorry if I reiterate any thoughts previously expressed. The "elite" as I have seen it put, are elected by us, we put them there. So we don't really get to cry over spilled milk. You want to be one of them, get involved in your community and start running for office.

As far as aliens helping us preserve life, well, I am undecided. I happen to think of them as uninvolved observers. You know like when we go into the jungle and tag some Gazel so we can keep up with their numbers and migratory patterns. I don't think it has anything to do with their own preservation and I think that is narcissistic for us to believe we are their only hope for survival.

As far as the human race protecting and ensuring its own survival, well you can bet that there are some very motivated people out there that have plans. I am not talking about the elite. There are people out there living off the grid and preparing for the inevitable right now....nothing stopping any of us from doing the same.

Peace out,

“Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing ever happened.”
Sir Winston Churchill
