We will see how long this lasts. I never really understood why it is that people could talk about murdering thousands of people, rapes, brutal beatings, and all other felony related crimes on this site and others like it, but could never even think about talkin about smoking a plant or taking a pill. I guess talking about some illegal things are ok while others are not.

Other than that...I hope that this stays up, and I also hope that people dont ruin it by purposly saying things that will give the owners another reason to close it down.

I for one, support this move. Thanks!

I really hope posters stay "real" as there is much to discuss about this issue!

It's always been my belief that the "govt" doesn't want people to "do drugs" because, for example, in certain tribes in the mountainous central highlands of Vietnam, their men purposefully became addicted to opium so that they would not be eligible for "military service", therefore they "stayed alive" and got to keep their communities viable.

If you really believe the OWO/NWO is systematically wiping us out, wars are a good way to set about this goal, hence the incredibly efficient population control mechanism of continuous War throughout history.

Also, it's my belief that people who "get high" (not by alcohol) are far less apt to kill someone just 'cause the Govt. says so! They're usually too "happy" to want to kill anyone, let alone someone they never even met!

"Conversemos", (lets talk)

"Our strict rules against the discussion of personal recreational use of drugs -- including naturally-occuring mind-altering substances -- is still in place. Any member discussing, promoting, or otherwise eluding to personal recreational use of drugs in this forum will be immediately banned from ATS without warning."

I suppose "eluding" should perhaps be "alluding to"? After all, it's probably a good thing to "elude" intoxicants. It's a bit vague, but I understand it to mean don't say something like: "I mixed these flowers from my garden and whoa, everybody must get flowery". Lol, I had a few beers and cheers to that!
Actually, I prefered the site so far without the more spacy clap-trap. However, I think Terrence McKenna and others have some solidly cogent arguments behind the general "substance"-stigma. Twice today in our South African newspapers I read about the new legal US pot cafe for medical marijuana patients, and as an HIV-poz person that interests me a great deal. Upsettingly our nation was promised legal hemp farms during previous elections and nothing has come of that, allegedly because it may be confused with "narcotic" cannabis. Meanwhile, even our police union has requested a degree of decriminalization, so there are really interesting socio-political issues at stake.
Hope I didn't transgress - cheers to that!

Oh great.... we'll be able to say the word marijuana and not have our post deleted....

I feel like I'm living in a free society...

Well i think it should be up to the members to alert and for the mods to heavily mod it...much like the 911 forums.
Thanks for giving us some more wiggle room....I have had a thread i have been wanting to do for along time but was afraid to due to the stoners getting it trash binned.

I was just considering re-opening the medical marijuana cafe as a thread, but it seemed like it may be old news, by now. I think medical marijuana will (as an issue) be a continuing topic of debate, though. Glad there is a place for it now.

This is fantastic, but you know there'll be all kinds of "stoners" coming in and trying to derail the discussions anyway.

What of my suggestion to have all the posts private-queued and reviewed by staff before they become public?

I know there have been similar attempts to this in the past, and due to members it was removed. Hopefully this'll last a bit.

No reason for that.

If we as the members actively watch and mod those threads ourselves, then the "stoners" will be easily weeded out.

I suggest a post count requirement or something of that nature however, at least for thread creation.

i'm sure they're a cookin up something..

This is a welcome, but long overdue, addition to the best forum on the web. No conspiracy forum is complete without War on Drugs -type topics.

Well all i can say is: The ATS staff have listened to the members and now we can repay our respects by giving 'stoners' a stern nudge and a grilling if they dare to ruin this for the rest of us.

Some of this structure sounds vaguely familar to me.

Rather than rehash that long thread that had many hurt feelings and animosity between members and mods all along the spectrum, I will publicly state that the decision to do a drug DISC and the old Narcotics Forum was what made me hit the friend button on you SO. That you were willing to both listen and work with the membership despite your better knowledge and expectation of how things would turn out.

We lost quite a few members this year due to banning that created threads and posts on the subject that were not use advocacy. I would hope that if any should return or ask for reinstatement of their old accounts that they would be either accommodated or at the very least considered. The ATS War on Drug of '09 had a few innocent casualties along the way.

Maybe at long last I can now do that thread on alternatives to substance use that I never really got around to and the one on the conspiracy of advocation of use by the various medias of music, film, books and the good old peer pressure.

There is nothing against the laws in any state discussing marijuana if it be for recreational use or for medical purposes as well as the internet as well as other drugs whether it be natural or processed.

One of the reasons websites sometimes don't allow it is because the advertisers do not want to be associated with it.

Although I welcome the new topic. I feel that this is an attempt to purposely get members banned that act as if and talk about marijuana in a recreational manner.

My 2 cents.

Ofcourse, somebody had to make a conspiracy out of something much needed on this site.

Some people are never pleased...

Though I am excited at the prospect of this new avenue of discussion, I do get the feeling that many of us are already setting our selves up for failure. The only problem I can really foresee from this Thread alone is the opportunity for 'Witch Hunts' which some members may not hesitate to abuse.

As in "I don't like what this member has to say. I'm going to get a bunch of my Cronies together and report him"

Maybe I'm just being Cynical, but I do feel that to be an important issue.

It doesn't matter how many people report a member, as long as there is no violation of the TAC, then there will be no action taken.
