i do not think there is a threat on the earth but just a misundeerstood event so there is no need to worry about a threat, or a need to to save the world

After all that hype NASA just put us through over the Life on Mars bs, I won't listen to another damned word these liars say. They are simply appealing, once again, to Obama not to cut them from the federal budget.

I think anyone that thinks levelheadedly about this all realizes that this climate change crisis is something the Politicians and Corporate CEOs have cooked up for as a marketing scheme... Just another way for the evil bastards to tax us by proxi.

Ah, it's not the human race i'm concerned about, it's the effect our activities are having on other species. We being supposedly somewhat intelligent should take more care in what we are doing to the life we share our planet with.

Actually, the freezing winters can be caused by global warming, since the the ice is melting, it is flooding the ocean with fresh water and lowering the salinty, thereby disrupting the ocean currents, that bring warm weather from the south by the equator, to the north. Thereby affecting ocean currents for the entire planet.
GW causes extreme weather patterns.

It can mean frigid winters and hotter summers.

If this summer there are record breaking temps again, what are you going to say?

Though I believe the world can do better in preventing pollution of the air, the waters, chopping down forests etc.. four years to save the earth is a bit of a fairytale. I wonder if Hansen has shares in the carbon trading scam? Hmmm

Perhaps this Hansen guy needs to tell the Military Industrial Complex to stop making weapons that pollute the earth with depleted uranium too? However, now that Obama is just about to put a warmonger in charge of NASA, I doubt that will ever happen.

Hey, I could go on and on in typing a fresh response towards this story's Thread in ATS, but let me simply Copy and Paste what I posted directly on the Guardian's very own Web-site:

I really hate to insult individuals, but how thick do you have to be to somehow believe that Severe Cold equates to "Global Warming"? What is it about "Warming" in that term, that somehow manages to allow for Colder Than Average Temperatures? Seriously, use some common sense, would you please? You cannot have it BOTH ways! Face it, as far as anyone knows, the idea of "Human Induced Global Warming" is a complete farce, which was brought about through the Politicizing of Science, and nothing more.

Over 10 years ago I conducted research with the USGS, via a Climatological Observatory located in Hawaii. At the time, I found what seemed to be a correlation between CO2 levels, and an Increase in Average Global Temperatures. However, the only problem with this Data is that it was still in its infancy. We have very little to go on in terms of Equipment Measured CO2 Levels in the Atmosphere, and their Relation towards the Planetary Climate. However, the Climatologists which I know have used Core Samples, amongst other Paleo-Climatological sources, to determine the Earth's past Climate History.

Here is the deal. These Climatologists, who happen to be Pure Scientists, and not Political Gag Artists (AKA Pseudo-Scientists), knew about the idea of "Global Warming" as far back as 1995. Their studies and findings however were suppressed by bureaucrats. What they stated, is that no matter WHAT humans decide to do, even if we immediately shutdown EVERY LAST factory, automobile, power plant, smoke stack, etc RIGHT NOW, it will NOT make ANY difference WHATSOEVER upon the Climate trends of this Planet. If we are going to Warm, we will Warm, if not, We Will Not, but WE make little difference if any.

Another note which must be put forth, is that many fail to realize that we faced a Small Ice Age in the 1600-1700 A.D. time frame. Before this time Period, Greenland was in fact Green, and it had a vast Population of Native Farmers. When the Extreme Cold came about on this Island in the Early 1600's A.D.., Ice began to take over the interior regions, and before long, most of the Native population Vanished. This happened due to the depletion of their main food sources, as well as a change in the Climate of which they evolved for, and thus they froze and starved to death as a result.

What I can tell you, is that "Human Induced Global Warming" was the result of true Scientific Studies, however, before they were allowed to fully pursue it in an Analytical Scientific Fashion, the Politicians hijacked the term, and used it as nothing more than an Election token.

For the very minimal amount of Warming which was seen for the past few years in the Northern Polar Region, the Southern Polar Region has become Colder. Anatarctica is now seeing Temperatures at Lows which have not been around for 1,500 Years! Entire lakes on the Continent, which were frozen, have now all but disappeared due to the Vaporization Effect of Extreme Cold (Which does not allow for Moisture to Condensate at Levels High enough for Precipitation or Retainment). To top this off, we are also witnessing a decrease in Solar Activity, a 25% Decrease in the Heliosphere, and thus an increase in Background Gamma Radiation. These are precisely the conditions which have lead to Ice Ages before, and they are effecting the ENTIRE Solar System (Mars has had Visible Climate affects as well).

In other words, any Climate fluctuation is NORMAL, and there is NOTHING we can do about it! If anything however, do NOT listen to such a ludicrous theory as "Human Induced Global Warming". Now these Hack-Pseudo-Scientists have attempted to correct themselves through the differing of the term towards "Climate Change", and I am sad to see so many potentially bright individuals falling for such a ruse of enormous proportions.

I can tell you for a fact, even through conducting such simple research as browsing through NWS/NOAA Temperature data from the 1960's onward (For My Particular Location), that the Temperatures which we have been currently experiencing are NO different than nearly 50 years ago! As a matter of fact, this Winter, where I live, is the Second Coldest one we have EVER had since I have lived here (24 years). The Coldest Winter we have had, in those 24 Years, happened to be 23 Years ago.

Also, just to warn you folks, so many individuals on the Internet post false Information. One lady, whom I will not name, went so far as to Publish an Article which declared that Anchorage, Alaska has warmed so dramatically, that Snow Machiners must now travel 3-5 Hours North just to ride in the Snow. YET, just last winter, which is what she is discussing here, Anchorage, AK had one of their Top 5 Snowiest Winters, EVER!. They had OVER 9 Feet of Snow! So Be Warned! Look at the TRUE Data!

Is this the same Nasa looney who said that Australia is "destroying the earth" ?

I'm beginning to lose all respect for Nasa scientists with these ridiculous soundbytes that they keep putting out.

I guess it must be their way of making themselves sound relevant for the next round of funds handouts from the new administration.

There is nothing wrong in using resources wisely, but why lie to us to get us to do it?
people who discover they are lied to will and do rebel.
As far as our clean water, How clean and healthy is Chlorine and flouride from our public water works?
don't get those chemicals out of a well, naturally filtered water may have little bugs and nasties in them, but the human body is able to cope with them.
People who rely on well water for years have had no adverse effects from drinking it.
They even put it in bottles and tell us how good it is for us with all the natural minerals.

If "Global Warming" is human induced, then why do we find no Population Based Patterns in Climate Fluctuation? Think about that.

You also forget that the highly Publicized/Politicized basis for this "Theory", was that Winters in the Northern Hemisphere would no longer result in Snowfall, but instead Balmy Temperatures. This has, as of recent, been conveniently altered so as to allow for the re-issuing of the Model of this "Theory", in that ANY Climate Fluctuation/Change, be it Warming or Cooling, is ALL Human Induced.

Do you see now how this has become a No Win situation for "Doubters"? This is Politics at its finest, and Science at its worst.

Oh plz save us America.

Obama is certainly not going to save Earth, but he could at least help make this country and our standing in the world better. It took the politicians and government and the privately held Federal Reserve 30 years to get us into this mess...it isn't going to be solved in 4, 8, 12 or 15 years...it will take a loooong time, and it will never be what it was before...it will be better, but different.

Hey listen, I myself am 100% Pro-Conservation, ALL THE WAY. I believe in constantly increasing Efficiency (In terms of ALL Technology), Decreasing Pollution, and doing the best we can to live within the means of our Environment. I never litter, I respect where I go in the Wilderness, Woodland, Ocean, etc., and I have some real issues with people who blatantly toss trash about (It really does irritate me, as it puts forth a display of Laziness and Ignorance. I mean seriously, how hard is it to wait until you find a Trash Can to toss something out?).

With all of the aforementioned being said however, the issues with this Alarmist Attitude towards "Human Induced Global Warming" are the ludicrous and downright oppressive Policies which are currently being enacted, or are at least on "The Books" to be enacted, as a result of the Politicizing of Science.

In California for instance, do you realize that they banned the most effective Asthma/Bronchial Inhalers, all because the Legislator stated that they "Put forth too much CO2 into the Atmosphere"?

What about the Taxation proposals in California, which would place a "Methane Tax" upon every Cow owned within the State? They plan to place Meters on the backs of these Cows, and in the process, Measure and Tax them individually based upon how much Methane they Produce. One farmer alone has already calculated that he would be required to pay an EXTRA $25,000 in Yearly TAXES!

What about the National (U.S.) Ban on Incandescent Light bulbs beginning in 2014? They claim that they are too "Inefficient", and thus the "Excess" Energy they draw upon contributes towards an increase in CO2 output at Electric Plants. Yet, at the same time, what the Politicians conveniently FAIL to mention, is that nearly ALL Fluorescent and L.E.D. Light Bulbs (Which will take the place of Incandescent Light Bulbs) are currently produced in CHINA. Not only does this take away the American Manufacturing Ability (A HUGE Concern in Regards to National Security, and the Economy of American Workers), thus increasing Corporate Profits, but it also further increases Factory Smokestack Pollution, as China's production for these particular Light Bulbs puts our FAR MORE Pollutants into the Atmosphere, than any of America's Power Plants could ever muster. Ironically, a major portion of that Pollution from China manages to make it across the Pacific towards American Shores.

Also, it is yet again conveniently forgotten that Fluorescent Light Bulbs contain the Poisonous Pollutant Mercury, and their "Flicker Rate", or Frequency of Operation, can cause Epileptic Individuals to succumb to seizures. You also have a delay in brightness of Fluorescent Light Bulbs, which is a major Security Concern in regards to Exterior Home Lighting.

In Europe, the European Union is now planning to ban ALL Plasma Screen Televisions, as they state that these Particular Types of Monitors place far too much CO2 into the Atmosphere. They claim that this is not only from the Energy usage of these Television Sets, but also from the Televisions themselves.

Just last week, a supposed Research Paper from Harvard claimed that for every Two Searches entered into Google, more CO2 is placed into the Atmosphere due to the demand placed upon Google Servers, and the running of the Home PC as well. They stated that this CO2 Output is nearly the equivalent of a Tea Kettle being Heated on a Stove-top, and is thus "Polluting The Atmosphere", and "Contributing to Global Warming".



Do you see where I am heading with this? Anyone, and Everyone; Anything, and Everything, is now being blamed upon "Human Induced Global Warming". Everyone has their motives, whether it be Politicians seeking Re-Election, Pseudo-Scientists seeking Grants, or Corporate Members seeking Profits, but in the end they are all banking on a lie in order to Oppress and Use the Populace at Large, in order to Gain for themselves.

If you believe in the "Military Industrial Complex" idea, and you even believe that in someway it is "Scary", then what about the "Green Industrial Complex"? Did you ever believe that something so corrupt and sinister could emanate from a cause so great?

I am all for Common Sense Conservation and Environmental Policies, but this "Theory" of "Human Induced Global Warming" has done NOTHING but lead towards Power Hungry individuals exploiting Contrived Drama, in order to gain Power, Wealth, and further Influence upon us and Society-at-Large.

Let us hope that one day, and one day soon, we can finally return towards combating Pollution, cracking down on Poaching, and increasing the Technical Standards of Operation through the ever so Increasing Advancements of Technological Evolution.

Common Sense Policies are what we NEED, NOT Melodramatic Hooplah.

But, as long as we're 'waving our hands' and saying 'what if', why not try this one on for size :

If the Earth's orbit were changing ( and rather drastically at that, I'd imagine ), then that could certainly cause the summers to be getting hotter and the winters to be getting colder ...

Just as thought ...

I find it funny (my black humor) that corporations have put enough propaganda that when you mention anything wrong with the climate it becomes a global warming debate.

Its just Guinness.

We are split on everything to the point that nothing gets done. We will never make the corporations slow down in ruining this aquamarine Jewell of a planet. It just becomes a bunch of people regurgitating someone else's opinion.

How about using your own judgment as in what you sense with not only your five senses and your logic but feel it in your gut. Something is going wrong with our climate and its because of the way we are polluting it.

We will just spin our wheels until its too late. What a bunch of idiots.
