President 'has four years to save Earth'

www.guardian.co.uk

US must take the lead to avert eco-disaster

Barack Obama has only four years to save the world. That is the stark assessment of Nasa scientist and leading climate expert Jim Hansen who last week warned only urgent action by the new president could halt the devastating climate change that now threatens Earth. Crucially, that action will have to be taken within Obama's first administration, he added.

Soaring carbon emissions are already causing ice-cap melting and threaten to trigger global flooding, widespread species loss and major disruptions of weather patterns in the near future. "We cannot afford to put off change any longer," said Hansen. "We have to get on a new path within this new administration. We have only four years left for Obama to set an example to the rest of the world. America must take the lead."

As if Obama doesn't already have enough on his plate, now it's up to the president elect to save the planet as well.

NASA climate expert, Jim Hansen, warns that Obama has only four-years to defuse the climate-bomb now scheduled to destroy our environment, first by flooding coastal cities, then followed by who knows what other disasters of presumably biblical proportions.

Will this Harvard Law graduate have the right stuff ?

Save the Earth. Why bother? What on this planet is worth saving? Humanity perhaps? With all the constant bickering, backbiting, wars, genocide, eclogical rape. What is the point?

This world would have been much better off without mankind on her back all these years. We are not concerned about our fellow man,why would the world or the eternal creator be concerned about us.

I say let it happen.Wipe us all out.No more troubles.

During the fourth year he might well be walking a tightrope without a net.

The United States will cease to exist within 3 years

Woah....Obama take...the lead??? We've been doing things like this in Britain for quite some time now...it's just that were patheically small in our usage compared to America.

He's not taking the lead, he would be finally admitting something much of the world did quite some time ago...

Hansen.... LOL!!!!!

This is Gore's pet global warming gloom and doom prophet caught twice for passing off bad data and when caught, Nasa tries to cover it up!

www.telegraph.co.uk...

Global Warming - NASA Scientist Dr. Hansen caught again
Al Gore's Right-Hand Man James Hansen Caught Fixing Climate Data AGAIN
Article Quotes - NASA Scientist caught lying again

vocalminority.typepad.com...

In addition, as the Telegraph article goes on to say, this is not the first time Hansen has been caught fixing the climate data! As Christopher Horner (author of the book The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming and Environmentalism) reported last September that the very same Anthony Watts caught NASA fixing the data by placing thermometers “… in Arizona parking lots, overhanging black asphalt pads, near cell towers and hot-air blowing air conditioner exhausts or next to trash burn barrels, … setting one just away from a chimney directly above a Weber barbecue grill …”

Regardless, as a result of all of the controversy a clearly not amused National Climatic Data Center suddenly pulled the actual locations of the temperature measuring stations from publicly available resources! Mr. Watts took them to task. As of this writing, the locations are again publicly available.

Why does James Hansen still have a job? Not once, but twice he has been caught fixing the data in order to further his own radical anti-capitalist agenda. He should at least have his doctoral degree revoked.

This embarrassment came amid NASA also having to correct its data since the year 2000, which has been used to support many of the global warming alarmists’ “money claims”, such as Al Gore’s line that 9 of the 10 hottest years on record occurred in the past decade.

melting ice caps :S that is really strange because we have the coldest winters around the world since years / decades this for at least the past 2 years. its more global cooling down than global warming. so that scientist is worried of a lack of money flow towards him and his hoaxers.

If global warming theory is correct (big IF, huuuge) then we are doomed. Politician is been asked to save us after all. So alternatives are inevitable horrible death in the future or suffering through all political campaigns, debates, comities, taxes, rallies and only then inevitable horrible death in the future.

Don't worry... the carbon credit scam artists have the Cold Wave covered as well.

Greenhouse gases could have caused an ice age, claim scientists
www.telegraph.co.uk...

I find it ironic that people still support and believe this Co2 is causing global warming, Wait - I mean Global Cooling / Ice Age ...Hold on a sec... I don't know what we mean but anything bad with the weather means CO2!

Now give us the carbon credit / cap & trade scam so a bunch of paper traders, politicians, and scientists get rich! Shhh.. don't ask any questions, just give us the money and power we want to regulate everyone's lives and charge you trillions in taxes and fees in order to line our pockets!

As if Obama isnt already being put up on a high pillar to the likes of a God by the sheeple, now NASA expects him to wave some magic Obamawand and fix the world?

How pathetic!!!

Cheers!!!!

I forsee that saving the earth will take the form of stealth taxing us into oblivion. Expect any company which carts us around, be it buses, trains, planes all to be heavily taxed and to pass the cost onto the consumer.

Imagine any other kind of tax that they can think of, and it will come. They're even gonna carbon tax each piece of food we eat by estimating how much carbon the food's production created. Sound crazy?

I am 100% against the Carbon Credit / Cap and Trade scheme that drives this agenda. (and the international court / power that politicians and organizations are trying to gain over the world in the name of "carbon extinction".

But, I am also 100% for alternative energy because I am against pollution and it is a matter of true National Security.

Our dependence on foreign oil is far to great.

Algae Oil is "carbon neutral" and we could turn the desert Southwest into a full algae oil production for 100% domestic consumption within 10 years. Anything extra we sell on the open market.

Thirty years ago, people were talking about the next Ice Age. Glacier movement was being measured every year. We were having record cold winters, and record hot summers. Suddenly, it was global warming. Now, once again, record cold winters, with record snow fall, and record hot summers. I sure wish someone would make up my mind.

What the hell are they on about? There is more ice on the planet this year than there has been since the end of the seventies.

This is absolute rubbish.

And also this

US must take the lead to avert eco-disaster
is a ridiculous statement. Every other developed country has a green agenda and has had for the past few years, the US hasn't even started one.

It should read.. The US must stop being the worlds biggest polluter

There are so many things wrong with that article that its annoying me. I have lost all respect for the Guardian newspaper for printing this crap.

Ehh...I take everything that comes out of NASA with a grain of salt. Never know which one of em are well, you know.

In any case it's not just Obama's job to fix our growing climate problem, the nations of the world must work together in funding, researching, and developing renewable energy sources for us to use collectively.

If it boils down to each individual company spending mass ammounts of money funding they're own individual research labs and companies, were never going to solve the problem.

I understand that the US is a sort of example giver on the world stage, but after the last couple of decades can we really rely on the US to start the long and arduous process of consuming intelligently?

All we have to do is make devices that capture our emissions, and we have to empty them once a day, or once a week, or whatever the device is capable of holding.

This will be a temporary solution for gas powered vehicles, until we can create better solutions, years from now.

If I had a few million dollars, I could easily design a device that would attach on to exhaust systems, and capture emissions in a passive way that does not effect the performance of the engine. Then I could find manufactures that could spit this device out, and we could get them installed on vehicles right away. Maybe in 1 year.

The device doesn't have to capture 100% of emission, even if the device captured only 30% to 50% emissions, that would make a huge impact, and probably buy us a few more years of normal weather.

Creating these devices, and or giving the public the ability to design better devices, would boost business, and the economy, and jobs.

However, nobody wants to save the world so this message will get drowned into the infinite internet.

I made a thread about it:
www.abovetopsecret.com...

Alternative energy, and hybrid/electric vehicles is a very good long term solution. But, we need something that is going to work now, something that everyone could just install on their vehicles now, so people don't have to buy new vehicles, or wait for alternative energy to be declassified.

With all due respect to the climatologists, I think they are grasping at straws. Climate change is a process, and it has already begun. The wheel is turning already, and I dont know if it can be stopped by anything humans can do in four years.

If it were me, I would begin consideration of how we are going to be able to survive as a diverse species GIVEN climate change. Can we begin to voluntarily cut our birthrate so that damage to crops from climate change has less of an impact? for example.

I know there are those who disagree that climate change is real at all, and obviously to them we dont need to do anything differently. For those who do believe in climate change, however, I think we are asking the wrong questions for the situation we are in.

Well, if Obama goes ahead and has CO2 labeled a pollutant it'll be open season for the doom and gloom manmade global warming / cooling / climate change proponents.

wattsupwiththat.com...

Now then, as each of us exhale, we release a quantity, albeit small, of CO2 so in effect we are all polluters for doing nothing more than breathing. Maybe they'll come up with a plan to cull humans in a bid to cut CO2 emissions.

At the very least they'll probably want to tax us all for breathing.
