Then you are right what I downloaded was the browser and still didn't work for me as the vista security crap keep fighting the upgrade.

As for the new Os I doubt that it will be a new Os with vista still so new, and if they are planning to bring a new OS that will not be downloadable it will be for sell as Microsoft doesn't give anything free.

Anyway they are always testing on new OS and just because we have a name its doesn't mean is ready.

But you can still test the browser.

It will be a new OS. Microsoft said before the release of Vista that they would be releasing a new OS a couple years after Vista. Vista was just a stop gap OS to test some new technologies and File Systems. The beat will be free, and will work until August 09, and then you will have to buy it or go back to what you had before. This is a good thing. they are getting feedback from the people that are going to be using it, and not relying on what the designers think the people want.

After my bad experience with Vista (I call vista the anti owner OS) as is fights with their over security features the computer owners.

I had to tweak my lap top so much that it was not worth it and its only one year old.

I am ready to get another computer.

Why do you need to tweak so much? Mine is 3 years old and runs perfectly. Are you using the default installation from the manufacturer (dell, hp, etc), their recovery cd, which brings it back to how you bought it, or are you using an actual Windows Vista disk?

Yeah Vista was a damned if you do, damned if you don't kind of scenario. People whined too much about their kids being able to install bad stuff, go on websites they shouldn't. So MS gave them tools to stop that, and they complained about too much loss of control.

I have been running Vista on my laptop for over a year and not one crash or problem. I don't know what those people are doing to crash theirs but they should stop...

As I said earlier on page 1, its all that porn site and trojan/virus tagged mp3's and videos ppl keep downloading thinking their anti-virus program is going to protect them...obviously they dont. A new OS isnt going to change anything..these folks will still end up reloading the OS and have lock ups and problems as they are with Vista.

I do not understand why Microsoft would put out a new OS so soon after Vista release though, they do not want to recoup costs of Vista? Doesn't make sense to me.

I love my Vista/XP home network and it all runs great!

Ive got 2 Vista Premium machines that run 24/7 and one runs automation software and MySQL server and 2 mp3 encoders for my online station, never had any problems with them since day one. Ive also got older machines from Win95b, Win98SE, WinXP Pro and they too run flawlessly.

Of course I dont visit porn sites or download p2p crap and leave my machine open for file sharing so that they get infected.

I dont think a new OS is going to change the habbits of users that obviously is the cause of system failures and unstability.

Cheers!!!!

My is Toshiba and came with Vista but I like to play games and I don't like computers that fight me back every time I want to do something with it.

I hate the warning pop ups I want to be able to do as I wish on my computer that I pay with my money without having to see all the crap that Vista does.

I like simple to use systems that doesn't bother me every time I turn it on.

I don't have littler brats as my kids are all adults so I careless about the sites I see in the INTERNET because that is my choice.

I guess it should be computers build for worrying and complaining parents and those that are for people like me that doesn't give a rat butt about anything in the INTERNET.

BTW does anybody here tech geniuses know how to get rid of the evil ADVAPI.DLL I want that crap off my computer since Microsoft decided to keep track of malicious software install in my computer.

Or that is what they call it, in reality is nothing but spying on what you download.

I think you should really learn more about Vista because you obviously don't know how to use it to your advantage. I've been running Vista on my Gateway for almost 6 months now. I don't know what some of u guys/girls are doing with ur machines, but XP/Vista both work the same for me. I download anything I want and go to any website I want and have never had an issue. I run regular maintenance on my machine as well as install the correct software (which is free) that keeps all of my machines running smooth.

My machine specs are as follows:

Gateway XL FX Ultimate
Dual 200 Gig HD
Pentium 2.8 Ghz Extreme Processor
4 Gig Ram with 512MB on Video Card

Well then, here we go again.

Another useless OS from Microsoft that is designed to rip you off with the software that you have to buy to make it all work properly, and yet again, one that you can't modify without being #ed over with patent rights to make your own better version.

And the bright spark that somehow thinks it a good idea to touch a plasma screen with greasy fingers in order for it to display one's relevant files definitely needs their balls feeling.

Microsoft will loose.

Linux will win.

Free, innovative, cutting edge, freebase, software development will beat windows because windows is a greedy business model that only wants to make money.

They will forever be bereft of the best talent that is available.

You are pretty much out to lunch...

1) You have to have a screen that is specifically made to be a touch screen, and they are all LCD, with a protective screen over them so you don't wreck them. You can't just use any screen, and would never use a plasma.

2) I really don't hear people whining about new models of cars every year. If you don't want it, don't buy it.

3) Linux will never overtake Windows until it is easier for the average person to use, and there can be a distribution that major component manufacturers will write drivers for, and publishers will put out decent software for. Until then they will remain an elitist tool for snobbery.

MS is making service pack 2 for Vista which pretty much changes Vista to Windows 7. We have windows 7 here and frankly I don't see any difference from Vista. I think maybe it is more stable. Windows 7 will be 64bit only. If you have a 32bit machine you will have to stick to Vista.

I disagree.

You can't beat a Linux distro for compatibility. It can do everything a PC can do and more.

And what's better ... you don't pay for anything. It is all free. Everything.

And it's mostly 64bit, the new ones anyway.

There is nothing that a windows PC can do that a Linux distro can't do better. Nothing. Period.

... and there are no virus or trojans. Linux doesn't recognize malicious code as regular instructions ... it sees it as useless #e and erases it from operations before it can begin to work.

It isn't hard to use and it is better than any windows system.

... but if I where a Windows tech, I would spend every waking hour slagging Linux because I would know that my job was going to hit the #pan faster than I would care it to be the case.

And I would be on the dole because I thought that Microsoft was unbeatable.

But it ain't.

... so ... #Microsoft. They will never win.

I'd have to disagree. Linux cannot do everything. Try to launch (and play) Flight Simulator X on it - impossible, even with all the Wines and Cedegas. For a good audio player with ReplayGain support, you have to use Foobar, which is a Windows app
Also, not all is free for Linux. Say, you want to use Adobe Photoshop. Not only you have to run it within Wine, you have to pay for it like everybody else - and no, The Gimp ain't even close to PS

From what I've seen so far, Windows 7 really is going to be the best Windows so far and a true XP-killer. I use Windows because all my apps require it - and most of them cannot be emulated (yeah, yeah, I know, Wine is not an emulator, yeah right
).

Wow just wow, the abundance of speculation being flung in this thread is hilarious. Windows 7 will be 32 and 64 bit and no you wont have to stay with vista. And no SP2 for Vista will not make it Win7. It will make it Server2008 cored.

I have been running build 7000 of the Beta of windows 7 for 2 weeks now and have shifted my machines exclusively to it. I started running it in a virtual machine and was impressed. Loaded it on an empty raptor for dual boot and was even more impressed. Now i have removed vista and fresh loaded 7 on my main rig. Removed xp from my 3yr old laptop and loaded it on there also.

It is a very excellent OS. Very smooth, fast and stable. Faster than xp, stabler than vista. I have to deal with vista since we have over 300 pc's around this plant running it. We have already decided, if the marketing guys dont screw up win7 from this point forward too much, we will shift the whole plant over to win7 come July.

Ive noticed alot less memory leaks running the same programs. More Core seperation on dual core and quad core processing. Some very needed changes from the gimped up crap of vista. And an all around pleasant experience.

There is a reason Vista was dubbed ME2. It was a filler to make some cash in the interim between Good Os'es. Just like windows ME was. Bloated, buggy and a flaming piece of crap.

Alot of the vendors are supporting this from the get go. Vista was still waiting for drivers(and still is) for alot of devices a year after its launch. Win7 has vendors chomping at the bit writing drivers and supporting it, even before its out.

So before you go believing everything that is typed on the web. Do some real world testing for yourself and develop your own opinion please. Not everything is for everyone.

Have had Vista for about Year no big problems. It was lot better than when ordered Gateway with windows 95 and the thing was empty when I got it. Had to go into DOS mode to reload everything, and all I had done before was key punch with mainframe. Another thing I ordered 4 gig hard drive and everyone said you'll never use all that

I've not had a single problem with Vista. Those who did were just too LAZY to learn the handful of differences between it and XP. The MacNuts were just lying. Embarrassed about paying more for less I guess
Macs lost almost all of the Graphics market for a reason. When money is involved the silly myths go out the window.

4gigs huh. No one should ever make assumptions about an industry that has grown exponentially since inception.

Bad statements like these.

"640K ought to be enough for anybody. - "Bill Gates, 1981

That statement was made when computers didnt have hard drives. Just 2x 11.5" floppies. (Yes i owned one. Good ole Tandy TRS-80)

and

"There is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home." - President and founder of Digital Equipment Corp., 1977

oh how wrong they were, but yet both made billions from their own contradictions. Wish i could still cash in on my mistakes like that, lolol.

Windows, Mac... What difference does it really make anymore? They're both essentially owned by the same people. A Mac is just a very high-end PC that runs on another variation of Linux. So it's going to be a little more stable. If you have a good PC, you shouldn't have any operating problems, whether you're using Mac software, Windows, or Ubuntu.
