This head line should be. Let the Blue Screens of Death begin!

I'm one who has refused to upgrade to Vista. Obviously there was a huge problem with Vista. Microsoft only confirms that by releasing a new OS this soon. Let's hope that this version isn't such a resource hog like Vista. Anything used on a prior version of Windows should work flawlessly on any new version. Let's hope MS pulled their heads out this time around.

The only thing Mikysoft is confirming is that just as before, they have a psycological hold on a mass of people who are easily gullable to run out and line up at the software store and spend 300 bucks on an OS they really dont need.

Cheers!!!!

Microsoft lost my business with Vista, and they aren't about to get it back by pushing a new operating system. I've already switched to Linux and all my work and tools are Linux based now... I'm not making another switch.

Ubuntu (to be more precise) hasn't failed me... it hasn't slowed down, or been corrupted... it just works.

Every version of windows I've worked with in the past, I've encountered some rather nasty bugs that really should have been caught in beta testing. It limits and often prevents work from being done... not to mention, you're paying for the privilege of your system locking up and crashing, when there's a perfectly fine operating system out there for free that hasn't failed me yet.

So if I could say anything to Microsoft... it would be : "Too late".

It's an unforgiving world. If you show incompetence, you don't get a second chance... I'm not about to stray from that principle.

I downloaded the 7 in my vista computer as a testing tool about a month ago and I ended up uninstalling the entire thing within half an hour of having in my computer.

To get it out of the computer I had to go to Microsoft side and download the uninstaller.

Because it made windows vista so unstable I could not do anything without warnings pop in up and my windows freezing constantly.

So thanks but not thanks.

I'm downloading it now...should be able to test it on a willing volunteer in the office in the morning.

We'll see how things turn out.

If its more like server 08 and less like Vista the future could be brighter than expected.

As a computer tech, I have seen lots of Windows come and go. I have to laugh at the people who complain endlessly about Vista. They are the same people the complained endlessly about XP, and refused to upgrade from 98. As others have said, there is no real issue with Vista. Granted it does take alot of horsepower to run Ultimate, but the people who should be using Ultimate have the specs to run it and then some. As long as your computer meets the specs you will be fine. You would run a game on a computer that didn't match the specs, so why would you run an OS like that?

If you want to be mad a at someone for your stuff not working, be made at the publisher (software), or manufacturer (hardware). They knew that MS was releasing a new OS, and didn't bother to write proper drivers, or patches. I was working for Dell when Vista was released. Anytime I contacted a company about when a patch or driver was going to come out, they just said they didn't know. Coincidentally, we had computers loaded with Vista for training 2 months before the end user could get them, so it is not like they didn't have time.

It was always stated that Vista was going to be a stop-gap OS. Just like Win2K and ME. Microsoft has a roadmap that they follow for this kind of thing.

There is nothing wrong with Vista, it's leagues ahead of XP.
People only complain about Vista because their computer is no way near powerful enough to use the OS as intended by Microsoft.

My fiance's laptop was DESIGNED for Windows Vista. 3 gig dual core and 2 gig of RAM. I have done all the tweaks humanly possible to it and it still runs like a bemused turtle.

I have been running Vista on my laptop for over a year and not one crash or problem. I don't know what those people are doing to crash theirs but they should stop...

I do not understand why Microsoft would put out a new OS so soon after Vista release though, they do not want to recoup costs of Vista? Doesn't make sense to me.

I love my Vista/XP home network and it all runs great!

Thats odd, because I've done a couple of fresh installs of vista (one on each of my computers) and it took me maybe 20 minutes of setup and all of them are running better than any XP system i've ever had/used.

Yeah think I'll agree with you, I upgraded my PC to Vista and I had purchased vista very early on only a month or so after it was released and it is still running quickly and smoothly.

My laptop came with vista and I thought I'd see how it runs on xp and it runs slower which is a big surprise to me!! Gonna put vista back on it at the weekend.

PC Specs
Dell 8400
Pentium IV 3.6 Ghz
3 gig RAM
3 x 500 Gb HDD
Radeon X1900XTX 512 Mb Video Card

Laptop
XPS M1330
Core 2 Duo T7250 2.00 GHz
2 Gig RAM
140 Gb HDD
Nvidia 8400M GS

The problem is that if you think there is an uninstaller for an operating system, then you don't know what you are doing. People like this are the ones that give products such a bad reputation. Please, learn about the things you are doing, before complaining about it not working.

The other issue as the person who worked for Dell mentioned, is lack of drivers. Vista had such a difficult time getting anywhere because the manufacturers load crap onto the machines. Same with my laptop. When it came with XP, it ran terribly slow and crashed on shutdown. After I installed a clean copy of XP, I never had any problems again. I recently installed Vista onto it, and it runs much faster, smoothly and with all the graphics effects on as well.

It is not a new operating system is a new improved browser Microsoft was testing the new browser just for a few months, BETA, and that is what is been offered now as the link and the OP refer is the same crap a new operating system is not for download yet and if it comes as a download it will become a "patch" for vista.

It didn't work in my computer with vista installed os from factory.

If you look at the reviews I am not alone on the complains is plenty of them.

BTW I know more about computers and programs that you think.

What GPU does your laptop have??? I bet it's a rubbish integrated one that is barely capable of running any DX10 applications. Or it's a very low end ATI/Nvidia GPU like a 8400M or a 9300M. If you had a some thing like a Nvidia 9700M it would run fine, but unfortunatly laptops with these GPU's are very very expensive.

the problem might also be the Dell bloatware. That company is terrible for that. Their top of the line machines run like junk until you get rid of all the bloat. A brand new Dell machine will be running close 150 processes before you even start up an application. HP is the same way. All their little addins start up with Windows and make your speedy top of line machine run like a Ford Aerostar with a piano strapped to the roof.

I jsut browsed around the Windows 7 website and what's the deal with claiming a bunch of things that you've been able to do since 98 are "new"?

I can place and arrange icons in my taskbar? Well, holy @#$% Mr. Gates! It's not like I havent been doing that for as long as I can remember.

Screen dims to save power? You mean, like it already does?

The only claims they make for new stuff that actually is new (or not depending on how you look at it) is for the OS to be smaller and faster. Windows has been too big for ages. I'm sure making it smaller is relative to the already bloated size of past OS's. When computer folks talk speed it's usually some minuscule and marginal amount that the average user would never notice let alone enjoy.

While making it smaller and faster how about they make it affordable for a change?
Actually being able to buy a software package for less than a weeks pay might limit the amount of piracy out there.

Windows 7 is not a browser. It is an operating system. I am glad that you think you know a lot about computers and programs. Now, it seems to me that you are referring to IE 8, which is indeed a browser.

I hope Vista users get a free copy of Windows 7 when it's finally released, it's nothing less than they deserve. The early reviews of this beta seem favourable but take that with a pinch of salt & reserve judgement until you've tried it yourself.

yep exactly, vista is useless, and we should get the upgrade free.

no one liner

I'm just guessing but I imagine that his fiance didn't want to sacrifice the skin on her legs for improved graphical performance ?

In all seriousness I have a 8400M running vista premium (or will be when put it back on this weekend) and no problems whatsoever although agree removed all the stuff dell installs!
